When I joined the Navy I quickly figured out why the called Jo. It sure didn't taste like coffee!!

I'm also a black coffee drinker, and I know what you mean about a lot of coffee-shop coffees. Perhaps ironically, my go-to, drink-it-every-day is Starbucks VIA instant coffee. They're tiny little packets containing some sort of proprietary magic. Two packets plus 12 ounces of water = pretty good stuff. The Colombian flavor is my favorite. It's a fairly neutral medium roast that tastes like I think coffee should taste without anything added to it.

Have yet to try Starbucks. Happy that I spend a lot of time in France where a petit noir can still be had for a very modest sum. Always good, often with a Lotus biscuit thrown in. Long since lost count of the litres of great coffee imbibed while living and working in the Hexagon.

"You had to kill your food first back then." I dunno, I've frequently asked for a well done steak and been served something that starts nicking the salad off me plate. As my mate Steph says, a good vet could revive it. And that's not to mention the hotdogs they serve in a certain seaside resort I could mention, they're capable of crawling off the plate by themselves...

Everything Starbucks sells tastes burnt. Even the bottled water... ð

All I could catch were woodlice, escaping the office desk that I set ablaze. Dinner's up!

Starbucks just withdrew their sponsorship of your channel.

This is why I go to specialty coffee shops, particularly those that deal in light roasts. I always drink that coffee black.

Coffee just tastes like burnt toast to me. It smells amazing though.

You'd appreciate the Jackie Mason routine on coffee (the "burnt" beans)!!

Black Coffee for me!

I did wonder about all the things that are added to "coffee" now. I didn't realise it would likely be undrinkable otherwise.
