A Very Disappointing Clock

Very interesting! I'm thinking maybe they could put a perforated face on the clock. Like the advertisements put on bus windows that look solid from a distance but you can look through from inside the bus. Might let more light through.

you could probably modify the current limiter to drive those LEDs harder and get some real brightness, if only for a while.

prebaking in an oven at 70°C helps softening glued cases. more than one spudger and gloves recommended.

It's no match for a Lumitime. 🙂 "Destructively investigated" haha, loved that. Plus excellent peeling sounds up close to the mic.

The clock might be disappointing but the teardown wasn't

I have one that looked like wood but is disappointedly just vinyl. But you can read it.

I think Ave's hammer has a special name too

He does have the Explosion Containment Pie Dish.

I would not want a super bright clock in my bedroom. Most dim setting is probably the one I would have used.

Really is bargain basement. The one I have is solid "wood" and is easily visible in daylight.

As Fran said, it's likely a USB supply with a lead. Label says 100-240v in, 5v out, so I don’t think that's the issue.

Clive does have a Vise of Knolwedge. I don't remember if the other tools have nicknames.

Could the wall wart be "optimized" to the point that they put in the EU/China 240v innards with an USA plug? If it's really simple then it might be putting out only half what they expected to drive the LEDs.

At the bench, yay!
