As well as being the neliberal Dem/New Labour nerd fantasy of how politics ought to work but doesn't, and ALL about professional class gatekeeping, I always saw it as an exercise in American Exceptionalism as well, because America was n't just portrayed as well intentioned in the world, but sublime and all Holy in its dealings, and even though it was showing what the GW Bush presidency wasn't, it was still presenting America as good, which is not only complacent but actively evil false propaganda.
