🕑 Added 2025-01-17 23:07:51 +0000 UTCMy go-to machine since I acquired it by happenstance on the street corner in Manhattan back in 2000. Why was it put out for trash? Turned out to be a blown fuse. Easy repair - and decades of service form this wonderful workhorse of a reel-to-reel.

I repaired these in the past, main problems then, idler wheel bronze bearings. Now would expect rubber to be bad. Wow and flutter wasn't great, but good. Cross field bias head was to give better response at slow speeds. Even then tape was expensive.

Ive always lusted after a reel-reel tape recording since the late 70s, a dream I will never achieve.

Was very popular in 60s and 70s as a Roberts brand. A similar machine has 8 track on the side. Roberts 1725-8t (old) and newer type like yours and x-field. The only 8-track I saw that that was in a tube machine
