The Coming A.I. Revolution In Chemistry
🕑 Added 2025-03-18 18:42:53 +0000 UTCThe promise in the near future for a revolution in drugs and chemistry will require a revolution in oversight and management, unless we want to accept the consequences of not doing so. Not so much time to ponder this as you might think.... by all accounts these future days are very close.

AI in Biochemistry for medical uses makes me nervous. It reminds me of when the USSR decided to design a cruiser entirely with advanced CAD. They were in the process of fitting out the lead ship when they discovered that the overhead in the officer country was 4 feet off the deck and couldn't be moved. So they had to scrap the ship. The problem I see here is speed and elegance without understanding. Also, using AI to turbocharge development solely on the basis of profitability without any conscience or discussion of corollary effects. It the logical extension of the GW Bush solution of having the chemical industry do all its own testing, so he closed all the government labs policing the industry. I think we agree... Danger Will Robinson, Danger! Nobody ever pays attention until something like Bopal happens.

The molecular geometry you speak of for drugs reminds me of how important geometry of molecular structure is used for signatures or identification of Earth biology
