MEMO ON EVADING TAXES ON YOUR SUBSCRIPTION

Our Loyal Grey Wolves -
As you may have already heard, due to new U.S. and international laws, Our Precious Content is now classified as a taxable good. This sales tax is unfortunately being passed on to the users, which means that patrons in certain states & countries will begin seeing a small tax on your pledge amount starting July 1. We here at Chapo Trap House want to do our best to honor our commitment to you subscribers and to keep our request for monthly support as close to $5 as we can.
To do that, we are going to create a new subscription tier for slightly less than $5 for people affected by the sales tax. We’re still running the numbers on what makes most sense for this amount, but the idea is to create a tier where even with the sales tax applied, supporters’ pledges will still come close to or below $5. Unfortunately, Patreon does not allow creators to change the price of a subscription tier after it’s already established, or else we’d just drop the price for everyone automatically. As it stands now, if you want to take advantage of our tax-factored sub level, you will have to resubscribe at the new tier starting July 1.
This is annoying and a little confusing but hopefully it makes sense to everyone. We appreciate your support and hope you’re all staying safe & sane out there.

Whether or not you add a new tier, be sure to adjust the tax settings (for the existing Grey Wolf tier) by adding "general support" to the benefits list in addition to the digital download (podcast.) Doing that will cut people's sales tax liability in half.
