🕑 Added 2021-03-20 08:38:18 +0000 UTCPhew! I'm.. alive! Kind of. Nearly dying because I worked on six commissions since last Saturday with some breaks for sleep and food. I'm planning to have a nice days off this weekend just laying down like a veggie and doing nothing! Probably also eating something yummy and taking care of my little windowsill garden which helps me to relax.
Yes, I found a hobby! Finally! I always was thinking do i have a hobby? I do the thing I love, drawing, for a living and I can't call is my hobby. Can I call watching some stuff as a hobby? Not really.. But now! I have one! I'm trying to grow some herbs and greens on my windowsill, plus I have some plants to also take care of.
I got off my thought line, I actually wanted to talk to you how my working process looks like, because that may be interesting and a bit... confusing? So, I even eventually took this photo while working so I can even illustrate that! So, when people ask me how long does it take to paint this or this it kind of confuse me because working on only onw things is so rare so me. I prefer working on a few illustrations at the same time.
It doesn't mean that I'm concentrating less on each of them! It's more about... simplifying the process? I don't feel that it's the right word tho but I can't remember the word for it.
For example, if you need to paint one illustration, you need first get the sketching tools, sketch, scan, send to the person to approve (if it's a commission), trace (can do only at night so it's dark enough to see through), get the line tools, line, wait for ink to dry enough, get the painting setup, paint, scan, edit the scan and send again. All these tasks have mini tasks between then, like waiting and getting the setup. When I paint I also have to wait when something is drying. So one time a few years ago i figured out that I can manage these mini tasks by just drawing a few things at the same time. So I have a giant sketching session (this time I sketched for the whole weekend), traced all together, so I don't have to wait for the darkness for each piece, spent one day on lining everything so the next morning all got dried up enough to paint and then painted it! While one piece as waiting for something to dry out, I'm painting the other piece instead of doing nothing. It's pretty exhausting, because it lessen the possible breaks but very effective when you have to do a lot of things!
So I just thought that I can share it with you and maybe you will also find it an interesting and productive to try out! Or maybe you already do that yourself and it's nothing new for you hahaha
Nex week I will be working on two commissions and painting the Patreon special picture! Filming usually don't work this way, unfortunately, even if I try to paint other pictures alongside it kind of... feels weird. Maybe because of the light and I feel that I should be all into filming while I have a light for that and I feel guilty for spending time on other pieces, i don't know...
Anyway! I'm doing to take a good rest this weekend, recharge and get all ready for more work next week! I guess after I will recover from my losses I wil just take a week off to lie down because all my body is in pain already... hahaha

When I wait for my paint to be dry, I practice sometimess yoga kipalu movements (sort of stretching). So I relax the muscles of my neck and shoulders which sometimes hurt. Or I study some lessons on Duolingo. I learn foreign languages (actually Dutch). I am please that you like taking care of your plants. I am in love with plants. Flowers are my neverending friends. Although i have worked all my life programming computers, I studied plant biology in university when I was young. It seems you feel better and it makes me happy. Have a nice week. yay!! yes, try do to them all at once! also there can be moments you don't know which color to use next so you can work on other piece and then came to the previous one with a fresh eyes!

This is actually super helpful because I was getting so annoyed at having to wait in between drying layers 🥲😂 and eventually giving up, creating lots of wips - great advice!! Thanks for sharing 😄

this is awesome. i use to draw more than one piece at a time too because of the drying time so i can totally feel you!
