🕑 Added 2022-06-03 03:16:24 +0000 UTCDerek Davison & Danny Bessner from the American Prestige pod join us to discuss TOP GUN: MAVERICK. We discuss the essential dryness of modern films, how Top Gun propagandizes the insane destructive uselessness of our military, and how we can see America’s destiny in Tom Cruise’s career.

And it is so unnecessary. People actually like previews. It was part of the experience. They were still making money but we were not suffering after we paid to be there. I once had my dentist put ads on while I was waiting for him on the dentists chair. A literal captive audience. And I was paying this guy. There ought to be a law!

The ideal "loving feeling" son would be Smooth, by Santana ft. Rob Thomas. Released 22 years before the movie, just like Loving Feeling.

Completely agree with their take on the pre-movie advertisement hostage situation, it's SICK and it's so awkward to be sitting there trying to quietly chat with people while their eyes glaze over and their heads invariably turn towards these stupid ads. Let us have a moment of silence & darkness before the movie.

Of course the comparisons to star wars stick, it's cia created, fascist iconography- the 'force' is identity, not God, 'no emotion?'- as you swing a laser sword or pilot a death machine to destroy a children's hospital? - the 'bad guys' in star wars are 'emotional' because these bullshit psychos who hack people to death as a religion run the fukn universe! -All these 'movies' might have been written by an evil wizard is what I'm trying to say

amazing ep
the pre movie nicole kidman cameo is essential to a good movie going experience

Tom Cruise has made sooooo many good movies. I always liked The Firm and Risky Business is a classic. Top Gun never made me think much about the US military, not did tje Golden Angels from the “Dreams” video by Van Halen

this episode just kept reminding me how good and funny Hot Shots (1991) is
Highway to the danger zone will forever be associated in my mind with Rob Cordrry air drumming it in Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo bay

they didn't want to do drones because in real life it's boring, but Macross Plus nailed top gun + drones because they could do insane animation for the planes
