Dr Janega did a great job explaining London, as an American from the 21st century I was always confused how London grew so much considering it was a trade endpoint, it wasn’t along a major trade route like the Spanish or Silk Road, sure it had wool but if you’re shipping wool from all over the country side, why stop at a Roman era city down a fairly shallow river when you could bring it to the coast. Always thought it might’ve been marriage, but the low tax rates and such make sense now.

Great episode, Elanour is funny and very well informed, I feel like I learned a lot from this episode and I hope we see more of her as guest in the future. there's a big ethnic boundary in quebec between the french who would divide land as described in thin strips with the narrow end on the river versus the english who would divide land in big abstract squares. I've always thought it made more sense the french way, you get to concentrate the infrastructure and the people a bit closer together and have the crops just vibing a bit farther away, versus having the one country house in the middle of the field 20 minute walk from anything else
