736 - Work Will Set Your TV (5/30/23)
🕑 Added 2023-05-31 03:34:58 +0000 UTCWe take a look at Barack Obama’s new Netflix series “Working: What We Do All Day,” in which the former president examines the various trials, indignities and inequities of American work life and avoids asking: did I do that?

Bill Crotts
I sometimes wonder if Obama has plenty of self awareness and does this stuff as a bit
Robert Falco
they should watch the Factory documentary the chines just roast the American worker the whole time.
Kevin
Honestly I could see the elites replacing robots with slaves if only because their is a distinct (non-pun intended) human element that is missing from the AI Utopia, namely the unbelievable high that comes from dominating another human being which no doubt they will come to crave. Otherwise, I think they will just end up cannibalizing themselves in their Elysium since for their to be "winners" there has to be "losers" and if all the losers are dead than the title of winner ceases to have meaning--you need people to point at.
Niceeeeee

Gummo?

You can hear Matt crack a Bang energy drink at 7:20 in a futile attempt to cure his mental ailment

I thought American Factory was pretty good but also sort of frustratingly agnostic

Don’t knock my assisted suicide plan- it’s waaay cheaper than retirement

Inspired by Terkel? Obama can eat a bag of dicks.

A straw in a Budweiser for a bedridden person is some Harmony Korine shit lol, right up there with the boy eating spaghetti in a dirty bath tub.

We're basically paying these guys to watch TV/movies and then regurgitate content to us for sustenance like a mother bird.

LOL - Obama’s creating content for today’s young people, thank god!

I will laugh until I die at Hillary saying "So Amy Schumer, I just heard about your AMAZING battle with endometriosis!"
Christopher E Musgrave
I'd buy that for a holodollar

Also another job that was born during the Obama presidency: PODCASTING. So….

I would cut my own foot off to see Obama, and The Puerto Rican Rattlesnake together.
I am kind of surprised they didn't touch on this weird thing where Obama brings people food in like every episode. There is an incredibly long and boring montage where Obungler brings these office ladies lunch in these sad looking styrofoam clamshells. And the clocks on the wall shows it's like after 2 pm. Here's the President bringing you your sweaty lunch at 2! It's fucking weird.

Davis Guggenheim also directed several eps of Deadwood, so it’s complicated. Tho he also put the Edge in It Might Get Loud, so idk maybe you’re right
Joseph McConnell
Chris with the best joke of the episode 👑
Ross Moore
obama is so fucking boring, why would you ever talk about him?
M.R. Alchemist
So you don't want to see the Seinfeld 9/11 episode?
John Harwood
The best podcast would be Obama interviewing Will, Matt, and Felix about their jobs.
T S
At the Austin TrueAnon live show they made a joke about Chapo only doing movie eps

Godammit I Love When Chris chimes in!!!!
Tommy
If you showed the AI-extended Mona Lisa image to Leonard da Vinci, I bet he would have loved it. But he was from medieval times, so he would have also been impressed by the dancing baby from Ally McBeal.
Meadow Green
Obama produced it but with documentaries that really doesn’t imply creative control
Jack Arens
They also seem to imply that Obama made it when that’s not true lol. He did have like an interview thing with them tho
Jones Kolbinsky
Obama saying "I'm in the future" is so goddamn funny to me
what_an_answer
15 years later and Choom is still funny
Thomas Stevens
mise en scène, everything that exists within a piece of art was put there for a reason and has a purpose, this is what AI art is killing, same for paintings and for those video game things they’re rolling out where every character can converse with you endlessly.
Tommy
Driving trucks, the Mona Lisa, and AI are all what I assume Mona Lisa Overdrive is about.
SJ
It's risky to make fun of Obama because he's such a nothing, which is worse - or at least less interesting - than evil. It's like MST3K trying to lampoon Manos: The Hands of Fate: if I recall correctly, after an unusual stretch of silence from the seats, one finally commented, "I give up."
Meadow Green
Naw American Factory is cool, the filmmaker said “workers of the world unite” at the Oscars. Impossibly based move.
C. Ries
Have you ever considered that driving trucks and the Mona Lisa are both overrated
Duh, pretty sure they made a movie about it. Pretty boring movie
etienne
did you know that there's a bunch of extra shit in Mona that didn't make it to the painting because it was boring as fuck? tmyk
LeZero
Man, Felix has so much energy when it's time to shit on the Obungler, you love to see it
Accurate, yet irrelevant
not an op just a fag
Next time on Chapo, are Art History nerds an op?
birdo
Shut up nerd
Rohmer Simpson
It’s sinner, man!
Is Will aware there is a crazy panoramic backdrop to the Mona Lisa already? The techniques used to create it are part of what made the Mona Lisa so popular in the first place. The Mona Lisa is actually a lot more than just the portrait.
catsjvk
shadow government lockdown
Matty yglesias
did u guys move to LA so you can sit in your houses and watch tv all day?

From the store

I'm not getting Patreon notifications for Chapo anymore. Wha'happined?
Tim Mullen
This episode reminds me Felix’s commentary on respecting Hilary’s people more than Obama’s because hers were at least true believers. Don’t think anyone in human history has been as self obsessed and unaware of themselves like Obama in here
Diokles
Documentaries are Obama's version of Bush's watercolours.
NYCM&AHole
Lol but there will be a liability cap when your self aware AI driving software does the whole spy games scene
NYCM&AHole
Goddamn that’s awful.
Doug Cartel
Oh yeah the way the nursing home industry works now is, you sell a nursing home, the buyer cuts the budget and makes things worse for everyone in it, then sells it to another guy who does the same thing, lather rinse repeat forever. Pure fucking evil
Doug Cartel
it is really funny that all of Obama's underlings were shouting that Trump was The New Fascism and literally a month before Trump's inauguration Obama was passing laws that lifted restrictions on who Special Forces teams could target etc "Uhh yeah he sounds like trouble, anyways navy SEALs can now tie liberals to the hoods of their cars"
Doug Cartel
"these poor managers get beaten up by their employees every single day. truly the noblest profession"
SlowTrickle
I adjust fatality auto accident claims and I’m ready for the day humans don’t drive as much or at all. I’ll find something else to do if it means no more pictures of dead kids and crying mothers holding blue tarps in the road
etienne
jesus christ, we already have a technology that can be automated and electrified way easier than trucks on highways but we're just gonna let the actual real world train network fritter away into dust and try to put lithium batteries on road trucks that use LLM models on lidar cameras. they say it a lot on Trashfuture, but the only thing we can try is the impossible, right?
William
Have they heard of fucking trains?
William
These art extensions are the exact same logic behind the Disney Star Wars extended universe- “where did Han Solo get his boots”?
Sparky
Yes, but also fuck BJG
Josh Bobst
According to Ralph Nader, in an interview with Briahna joy Gray some months ago, self driving cars and trucks cannot be made safe for driving with other cars, or in bad weather conditions. But corporate America really wants the reduced labor costs of shipping without human drivers, so it seems obvious to me they're gonna try to get human drivers removed from major highways.
