What boggles my mind more is how eager people are to ride out to defend their Podcast Heroes from people criticizing a series that just wasn't very good. I don't think everything CPT puts out has to be tailored to my interests. I've never been a huge fan of Hell of Presidents for instance. But I've never commented negatively on it, because I'm still sympathetic to its general thrust. But this series actually was crap. Poorly conceived, bad production, unclear argument, not very funny or insightful, and wonky in a way that seems at odds with what some of the stuff that the show used to be about (making fun of pollsters). The whole purpose of what CPT should be has been up in the air since Bernie was crushed, and things have become even more rudderless since Matt got sick. I left my first ever comments on this series just because I really don't want CPT to do more of this shit. Hopefully the somewhat negative reception to this series, along with Matt's return, means that there will be less "...but actually, this strategy wasn't borne out in state level polling 🤓" content going forward.

Felix wrote and narrated Fighting in the Age of Loneliness and it was great, and so I don't think that was the issue here, besides which I don't need two jokes a page like it was a tv sitcom... I think this thing was giant and unwieldy from the start - it just covers so much time that wrestling all of that information into a seven or eight hour script and then trying to put some kind of bow on it, was a tall fucking order.

Or, if you do have specific criticisms you could level those in something like a constructive way rather than being obnoxiously dismissive of the entire thing. Do I think it relied too heavily or was, at times, a bit unclear about specific conclusions drawn from polling data at different points in the history? Yes, I do. Do I think this series started with a premise they were, overall, perhaps a bit too precious about. Possibly. Did I also enjoy the entire series overall? Absolutely. But more importantly, I can see this as a first attempt at a thing they hadn't necessarily done before at a scale like this, and I'd be extremely happy to see them do another one: because the next one will likely be better and more assured. I'd love to see them do the one Felix teased in episode six. tldr: don't be a dick

What the “woke” crowd doesn’t compute, and what cost them big, is the idea of age appropriateness. It’s good to learn about racism and bias and take a critical view of history and politics, etc. but this is good to learn once you have a baseline knowledge to revise in the first place. If this is your early (or even first) exposure to these topics how can you grow up to function at all? All you ever learned is that everything sucks.
