This happens to me every time I try to write a short story in my world. The one I'm working on right now was only supposed to be about 5,000 words (and more like a scene than a true short story). I'm now sitting on a 40,000 word (almost completed) novella. So go for it! See where the story takes you and enjoy the ride!
