I made a day/night system for my 3D environments. Pretty damn happy with the results. I can turn lights on and off on a dime. Clouds are drawn in Adobe Animate to fit the style I'm going for; both standard and inverted so I can make them react to where the light's coming from. Stars are subtle, but there. May add a little more character to them later, but I'd also be happy with them the way they are now too.
Unfortunately, you won't get to see this in action in the first Zelda UO reboot. Though it still needed to be finished. The first WHOOKOS reboot will be the one to show this off.
