To be honest, I think the song is a grower. As a fan I didn’t like the initial listen but a week later it’s sonically getting good. Also Katy herself this album is gonna be a dance album so the lyrics are meant to be cheesy and non profound but just supposed to be high bpm and high energy. She just wants people to dance. Some of the snippets she showcased were great and makes me excited for the album but I do agree after hearing the snippets it raises the question of why they chose this song as an era opener

This is a great point, I totally agree. Literally all the old school pop songs I like were forced on me lol "Roar" included. I grew to love some of them because I heard them so much while in public. But now in my area, they play a lot of rap & r&b in public spaces. So I'm no longer exposed to nearly as many pop songs as I was when I was younger

I kinda think of this, I feel like Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga their music back then was so forced on us non pop fans. Even Rihanna, like i also start to realise most of the songs we didnt like we didnt even bother listening to them for the first time, but if her music keeps on being played out, ill start to like it and want to listen to it. I feel like most songs just need to grow on you to like it, especially forced fedded songs. Thats how i feel with Katy Perry, this song may sound ok right now, but i feel like if it was the 2010s, and this song is been played out to the point its been forced on us. We would actually like the song. Thats just my opinion and view.

It’s very obvious especially with Taylor no hate but her music hasn’t evolved it’s literally copy and paste throughout her albums, but they get the pass bc they are white. It’s harder for black women especially to thrive in the industry.
