It is very relaxing to paint plants! The nature themed paintings do usually end up being my favorite ones. I'm glad you like them too. 😄

Charles

The nature themes were one of my main draws to your work, honestly. (Pun intended? Idk) I do like that your guys are actually hot too, and the translucentness and quality of light . . . But mostly here for the plants. 😅 This one is really fun. Obsessed with the bird burlesque costume/lingerie too.

Calm

I'm glad you like it! And I hope it'll be helpful for you 😄

Thanks for such a thorough explanation of your process. I'm a huge fan of your style, and I appreciate your sharing your knowledge.

Tedjiart

Oh, and maybe if you could give any advise/study on how to improve on it? I really would like to hear your thoughts on it since you're atm the artist I look up to the most!

Tedjiart

Hi, Calm, when paitning and specially coloring do you usually have any color theory/harmony in mind on each stroke or do you just go putting colors and see what works and what doesn't? Did you read any books that helped you learning more on coloring? Also, good luck on your surgery!

Thanks, Zazo!

Thank you! Yeah, the 3D renders were done in Substance 3D Modeler. I've experimented with some other pose tools in the past, like Daz3D and Blender. Daz in particular is not fun to work in, lol. The UI feels ancient and clunky. So I found a Daz to Blender bridge tool that could send the rigged models over to Blender instead, and that improved things a bit, but it still feels too restrictive to me. Being able to grab and move stuff with my hands in VR feels very intuitive in comparison. The style of the Daz models also doesn't fit the art style I want in my work, so sculpting things from scratch works better for me. It's also more satisfying having made everything from scratch. If you're curious, you can check out my experimentation with posing those Daz models in Blender in the time lapse videos for illustrations #78 and #79, here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/gallery-of-all-62266586

Sure man Take your time and take care. Your eyes are important. Don't rush it.

Alex

Good luck with the eyeball diagnosis and I hope you can avoid surgery. Nice work, as always. Are the 3D renders the ones you did in VR? Have you experimented with any other 3D pose tools and do you recommend any of them for pose/layout reference?

Calm

Thank you!

Calm

I'm glad you think so! And thank you. 😄

Love the "College Elf"! My favorite character, I think! All of your art is just incredibly fun, though, and I never get tired of checking out the expressions, positions and ... "activities"... . Thanks for sharing and best of luck with your eyes!
