(WIP) [ANIMATION] FOS_Redo "Keyframes"
🕑 Added 2023-09-20 00:31:33 +0000 UTCI've been working on this on and off. Forgive me, this past week has been weirdly busy for me. Every so often the planets align, and everyone gets it in their heads that they should go get the Ghoul (me) out of his lair. "Social interaction is healthy" is a common lie that Overworlders will tell you. There's nothing outside for you but suffering and frustration.
Anyways, here it is so far. Honestly I thought I'd feel satisfied by redoing this one, since I was really unhappy with how the first one came out, but it's been... such a weird experience. I've never redrawn something I've already drawn, and uh... I dunno if I want to do it again. It's hard to explain, but it's almost like... profane... or like I'm insulting myself. I mean, I usually insult myself, but this is a deep, primal insult, like... in my soul.
I'll ponder this. Anyways, let's look at a comparison, maybe I can point out where I think I went wrong in the first attempt and how I think I did a little better this time around. And maybe you won't agree with my thoughts on it, but just humor the man who pretends to be a goblin on the internet.
First and foremost, the pose. I want you to try to do her pose in the first iteration. Keep your body stiff and straight at a mirror or something, and turn your head 45 degrees to your right, and look at something slightly to your left. It's really uncomfortable, at least for my creaky bones. It's a very unnatural pose, very stiff, very unbelievable. Her hands (In both obscured by the cookie, sorry) are also just limply hanging by her sides. I called her eyes "Scooby-Doo painting eyes" before, and I think it's really because of how lifeless her initial pose is. Also, her chest is like, sunken in or something, it should be pointing more upwards considering how low the camera is.
In comparison, the new pose is keeping a general direction. Her shoulders are a little raised, suggesting tension, she's clutching one hand, and the other is clutching her skirt (Again, obscured by cookie, sorry.) Her chest is pointed upwards, as it should be, and her legs are more crossed. Her pose looks tense and uncomfortable, but emotionally, not physically. She looks like an actual human being, not like a fucking owl getting lured out of its nest with bait.
Other things I've changed are just general proportions and more details. I think the head and the face have more form and structure, and a more pleasing proportion, and the collar bones don't look like shit. The hands also have much more care, but hands are always a bitch so I'll cut my two-year younger self some slack.
Not much is changed here. Some proportions are different, so I think it, in general, looks a bit better. But I was actually happy with this pose. Her head and eyes are too big, but otherwise I think it's overall decent. For me, at least. I basically just added more details, in the torso area, in the undergarments, made the folds more round and soft instead of jagged, so on and so forth.
Keyframes like this are really important in animation. Movement gives it a ton of life, of course, but this is like the foundation. It's all getting based off of this. Starting with a shitty pose will make the animation feel shittier. To me, at least.
I dunno, I hope you guys are liking this so far, and don't think it's a waste of time. I hope your reaction is more along the lines of "Hey, that's an improvement. Look at how far our little man has come." and not "This is what I've wasted my time waiting for? Tch. Such a pain. That does it. I hope you've made peace with your God, Kyde. Because I'm going to send you to him." *Unzips Katana*
I understand that this probably doesn't have much appeal, since I've already done this one. This is more of a selfish piece, more for the "deranged artist" part of my brain instead of the "horny pervert" part. I'm gonna pick up the pace and get it done as quickly as possible, so I can keep making new things. I want to get this one and one other one done this month, expect the Keyframe on that one to be posted soon. This one honestly isn't complicated, so I have high hopes for how fast I can get it done.
Next up for this one is the Background. I'm gonna be making it from scratch, and changing some elements. Like, turning the one doorway into a window, and adding a bookcase. I always thought there was a bookcase? But it's just clocks. Maybe I'll set them all to 4:20 or something. Or 6:45, since it's supposed to be evening. Get it? Because '45' is on the '9' on clocks, so it would be '6 9'. Truly a hilarious joke. Also bring the couch more into view, since that's where the followup gifs all happen. A bit of a foreshadowing, or whatever. I also thought I could add a broom or something leaning against the wall or handrail, add a little more environmental storytelling, like she was doing chores and he interrupts that. I... think that would be cool?

Yeah, someone else told me that too. Basically those lines are gonna be where shadows will go, so they won't be as defined in the final. I've been trying to nail down waists this entire time, and it's driving me insane.

Real quick Kyde, you bash your old work for logical reasons. The things you point out make sense and as someone who loved doing art I relate to picking everything in my work apart. But you forget that cookies is how a lot of people found your work and none of us looked at it and saw it as bad. When I see how I’ve changed, I see it as a style, not that my old work was objectively worse but that my style has grown since then. Maybe you already understand that but you take so much time ripping on yourself like it makes you more relatable when (maybe just speaking for myself here) we are just happy to receive more content and see your work. You doing good dude. Don’t have to act like you ain’t. I like your style more then some of the biggest nsfw creators out there. Just gatta pop that portfolio. I am very eager to see this new version and hope we get some interesting variants to go with. Cough* cough* heart shaped red pubic hair.

God I hope it comes out at "Chef's Kiss" quality. I've felt so guilty this entire time, people liked the first one so much and I half-assed it so bad. There's no way this will catch lightning in a bottle twice, but I want to put in the amount of effort to match the amount of praise the first one got. I think then I'll feel like maybe I'll deserve all the nice things people have said.
