EP42 Creating Interest (Process Walkthrough+)
🕑 Added 2024-12-06 00:52:28 +0000 UTCBesides being a really interesting piece (to me!) that I was glad to create, it's evoked a pretty unique response from you guys as well I think :) So besides the usual discussion around the process walkthrough, I also talk a little about adding interest and hooks to your work. Be it for yourself, or for your audience, I think it's something that isn't talked about too much. So it was fun to share my thoughts!

He uses a couple things from what i have seen, more often than not it's a soft light layer. He also uses the Curves tool/HSB Tool and some Photoshop specific things like the selective color layer. Hope this helps :)

I see you worked through greyscale first, how do you effectively transfer to color? Do you use layer modes?

Thank you!! To answer your question, there could be quite a few causes. Overblending when it's not needed, confused light sources, mismatched colors in shadow and light.. It's difficult to really diagnose the issue. If the draft looks alright, then consider if less blending and more clearly demarcation maybe be the solution!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! I think so too, it's just that sometimes the perfect intersection between what the artist and audience find genuinely exciting is pretty rare. So it's kind of a challenge in that way! I'm always glad to hear that you like the videos!!

I still have to watch this one, but like your previous videos this one I am sure will also be a valuable study resource. So thank you for always sharing these! I do have a question that is rendering related. How do you keep your colors from turning into mud? When I lay down my colors with rough brush it all looks better than when I blend everything together (no smudge, just color picking from what's already on the canvas).

That's funny, because I talked about similar things with my friend lately... I think that the more you put your soul and feelings into the painting, it resonates stronger with the audience. Like, it is much more than just a pretty picture, almost as if your energy attached itself to it and somehow can be "read" by others. It's silly, yet it feels like it sometimes with art! It probably is just putting more effort and thought into it and whatnot :P Great video, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this painting! I love watching your process :)
