Since I've struggled a little bit with these pieces, I did some critique and analysis for this video as well! I'm started a daily sketching schedule, so I'll start sharing those here soon too - (maybe once a week by batch?)

Thank you kindly for the encouragement! It's a headache for me too, ultimately tackling new things are going to be hard and sometimes it can be hit and miss especially when we're also still picking up mileage and experience! Just keep going and I'm certain you'll reap rewards!

I think you've already got the gist of it by the way you've asked the question! It's really about just being sharp where: A the physical material is as such e.g. metal sheets and B where a strong overpowering light casts a sharp shadow. That said, it's also good to explore within your own preferences on how to do this. Many great artists also break these rules in very personalised ways, so think of them as more like guidelines to troubleshoot with if something feels too odd in your own drawing!

incredible work. Quick question on your process: I'm studying your amazing edge control. How do you decide when to use a razor-sharp edge (like on metal) versus a soft, lost edge in a shadow? Any quick tips on this would be a game-changer. Or if possible a proper video tutorial Thanks!

Thank you for the kind words! I'll be doing a sketching video soon - it has been quite freeing to just sketch more and render less so I'm really enjoying it :) Thank you for the feedback as well, the foreground chain is certainly another potential area of improvement!!

very nice video, love seing you exploring these very foreshortened and dynamic poses. It would also be very cool to have a video where you just sketch to maybe draw along. If i may suggest some feedback on the second image, i think you could foreshortenn the chain in the foreground more to make the image look more dynamic, maybe even make the chain look a little distorted.
