Nuki News #22: Biggest Factor for Success?

This is so relatable Artie, because we’re both in a really similar spot. I know what it’s like now to have art as like a second job, and it’s so incredibly draining haha. Like - I LOVE it! I know comics especially don’t pay the bills the same way commissions would, but I think I just love my project and believe in it so much that that’s WHY I put so much work into it! But it’s important to take that leisure time too... having this week off has been really good for me because it feels like I can actually balance work and rest in a way I can’t typically do with my day job. It’s rough out here. But I’m glad you put thought into these things before making a rash decision. Heck, I like how I’m able to do these charity drives, which is something I wouldn’t be able to do anymore if I left my day job. So there’s a lot to think about. The timing has to be just right.

I'm really glad you were able to realize that and have friends that brought you to that point. It takes a lot of work to get to that point, and you're doing almost everything right to keep yourself on track. It's been years, and I'm nowhere close to that point. The distinction between work and fun art has long gone, especially with covid. Not that I minded, because this was my passion, but constantly doing it in a work mindset where your livelihood depends of how "good" you are, always being far below that threshold, and various mental health issues annihilate the possibility of other art ideas coming to fruition now. I wish I could be in your place, but I just can't manage it. Reading things like this always gives me hope though.
