Facial MoCap possibility poll
🕑 Added 2022-06-15 14:14:12 +0000 UTCFacial MoCap - real emotions. The "wet" dream of every animator. Some might already know there actually IS a possibility for facial animation in VaM.
BUT. It is pretty much limited in various ways. It would have more the character of an experiment.
So what we are talking about? Some people might have seen this plugin here by LFE

This is the only reasonable way to mocap facial animations in VaM up to date.
Pros
- MoCap expressions for erotic scenes aswell as singing and decent voice over
Cons
- We would need to buy at least an IPhoneX to run the software through it
- Plugin is not maintained anymore and known for bugs
- animation might tend to jitter, breaking immersion
So you decide! Should we invest in this experiment and throw back the costs at our savings for the Optitrack system (ain't much compared overall but still a lot of money) or should we forget about this possibility and keep everything until we setup Optitrack?
Before somebody asks. No, funny enough there is nobody we know owning an Iphone so sadly we can't just test it.

I think by hand is worth it though its a big time sink. Or wait until vam 2 maybe..you decide lol

I don't know... it looks reallly limited. From what I understand, instead of moving vertices around 1 to 1 from your face to the model, you have to map it to all kinds of morphs. Sounds like a pain in the ass that won't get the results you're hoping for. Your time might be better spent just animating facial expressions by hand! I say put it toward the optitrack and look for a more elegant solution in VAM 2.0

It's a shame it's not maintained anymore. If you can find a more robust solution, definitely look into that, but I'm all for facial mocap. Nothing ruins a scene more quickly than mannequin-face.
