I like how in big movie productions they put a lot of effort into raising the stakes - like the entire world being at risk - so that when the hero(es) reach rock bottom, the audience has an emotional investment & the climbing out of the hole to achieve victory in the grand finale feels meaningful. Here, you've pushed my emotional investment to the max within a couple of pages - with a dinner conversation no less. I'm really looking forward to see what will happen next. Raeford has a long climb ahead of him.
