When I read your story and the scale I can see that even Daniel can't win alone in the galaxy. So I expect some good quality kingdom building on earth soon and the consuest or retrieval of some World or fringe worlds.

just imagine hod with a charisma build

'Dubious' is, if anything, not negative enough to describe Obolis. The guy obviously tried to put one over on them. At the very least, he was using his charisma and luck to make them agree on the spot to a dubious contract. But the fact that what he was doing readily took Torix in, despite his intelligence and willpower, suggests it was even more than that. Maybe mind magic, something eldritch, or involving the cipher. And if Obolis thought he needed to put that much pressure on them, then the contract must not be favorable to them.

Monsoon117

Thank you man. This is as motivating as comments get.

Any time bro, but it's no exaggeration, The New World is hands down the best I've ever read, the relatable characters, then badass action scenes that leave me fanboying, the complex issues and hard decisions Daniel has to face, dude what you've created is platinum.

Monsoon117

Thank you man. It's always great to see this kind of passion for my story, and it really gives me a lot of motivation.

This is my crack, I get all itchy and manic until a new chapter comes out. Once I light that continue reading button, pure euphoria. Reaching the end always leaves me fiending for more šŸ”„

"Whole city isnt feasible without a nuclear emp" Yeah I know, which was my point. Getting all those hyridized gialgathens into their base safely isn't practical without mitigating or defeating the nanotech though either....

crusty pickle

True, but when they were talking about it they were saying they needed Daniels help with everyone they saved from the process, so if they could get them to their base of operations, they could then de eldritch them. Whole city isnt feasible without a nuclear emp

tibbish

They're trying to effect a whole city's worth of them though hence the large area requirements. If they could safely, quickly, and reliably wrangle the eldritchified gialgathens into some sort of EMP'ed room than yeah that is viable. But since its a combat zone they're dealing with that isn't workable.

crusty pickle

Well yeah they are more localized, which in this case is fine because they are just using them to clear eldritchified goop from the gialgathens

tibbish

Actually the restriction on nukes is for nuking planets/people right? Not suns? If you used a large enough nuke or AM bomb on the sun you could generate a CME. Aiming and timing the CME would be the tricky part. Would be fairly metal of them too which fits the theme of the story so far.

tibbish

"you could also use several different magnetic fields which would also do the trick, and all with no nukes" Sure but for large scales (city, continent, etc) the power requirements are nuts if you're keeping things confined to normal physics things like standard motors, electrostatic charges from dryers, power lines, etc aren't gonna cut it. Some of that stuff will work if you just want to fry everything in a house, but a city or a continent? Unless you got nukes its gonna have to require magic. Even lightening isn't enough to fry all the electronics in a city via natural EMP. A CME would do the trick (for the whole planet even!!) but how the heck are they gonna generate a CME from the system's sun and have it arrive on time and actually hit the planet's atmosphere properly to generate it? Torix and the MC don't seem that strong yet to pull it off

crusty pickle

Kinda like sticking a fork in a microwave

crusty pickle

Just so you know if you use an emp or induce electricity in metal it does generate heat (which is technically what kills the electrical components) so metal will start to get hot if it stays inside an emp for too long

They generally use short pulses of high magnetic bursts to do this, that would probably be tour best bet, probably get something from the empire perhaps?

crusty pickle

You can also get a non nuclear emp or NNEMP device that can use a multitude of factors to produce localized EMP's

crusty pickle

These are generally small and isolated with a short range, and minimal effect, but they can potentially be damaging to electrical equipment

crusty pickle

Types of (civil) man-made EMP event include: Switching action of electrical circuitry, whether isolated or repetitive (as a pulse train). Electric motorsĀ can create a train of pulses as the internal electrical contacts make and break connections as the armature rotates. Gasoline engine ignition systems can create a train of pulses as the spark plugs are energized or fired. Continual switching actions of digital electronic circuitry. Power lineĀ surges. These can be up to several kilovolts, enough to damage electronic equipment that is insufficiently protected.

Second* sorry

crusty pickle

First on can be from friction like from your dryer as an example

crusty pickle

Last one is from the sun

crusty pickle

LightningĀ electromagnetic pulse (LEMP). The discharge is typically an initial huge current flow, at least mega-amps, followed by a train of pulses of decreasing energy. Electrostatic dischargeĀ (ESD), as a result of two charged objects coming into close proximity or even contact. Meteoric EMP. The discharge of electromagnetic energy resulting from either the impact of aĀ meteoroidĀ with a spacecraft or the explosive breakup of a meteoroid passing through the Earth's atmosphere.[1][2] Coronal mass ejectionĀ (CME). A burst ofĀ plasmaand accompanying magnetic field, ejected from the solar corona and released into theĀ solar wind. Sometimes referred to as a Solar EMP.[3]

Monsoon117

*Taking notes* I mean, just out of curiosity, is there anything else about EMP's you'd think might work?

Monsoon117

When I researched it, it basically summed up the majority of the damage from a displacement of the magnetic field around the Earth. It's a constant, hum of energy in all places at all moments. Emp's shift this field like a wave through the ocean, and this essentially rids the area of energy for a moment. As it comes rushing back in, the sudden recharging of immense energy fries electronics that aren't adapted for massive power surges. This was primarily around nuclear EMP's, however, which displace far more of the earth's magnetic field. Smaller scale emp's likely use the process you mentioned.

Monsoon117

That might be the conotation behind the word. For the most part, dubious just means not completely trustworthy. Straight from dictionary.com, "doubtful; marked by or occasioning doubt." A more scathing wording would be something along the lines of calling him a deceiver, liar, cheat, etc. I could use a more nuetral sounding word like unclear though.

Monsoon117

Thanks for the help and fixed.

Monsoon117

I can adjust them in this chapter and keep that in mind going forward.

crusty pickle

Well heres the thing technically emp is is an electrical, MAGNETIC, pulse and magnetism induces electrical flow. So an extremely strong electro magnetic field, thats pulsing at a very high hertz rate could technically do it, you could also use several different magnetic fields which would also do the trick, and all with no nukes

tibbish

Probably big EMP's = nukes which are a no-no. Nukeless EMP's relying on normal physics are gonna be small scale and fairly weak in comparison due to energy requirements needed for large scale/powerful EMP. Maybe magic can solve this some how?

BrauBaer

Thanks for the chapter

crusty pickle

If the adairs made the nanotech out of something thats "resistant" to emp's just use a bigger one lmao

crusty pickle

An EMP is essentially a pulse of electrical energy, while it is technically possible for some electrical components to survive, it would require them to be larger. Electricity when it passes through wires, or electrical components creates friction, too much electricity=too much friction= melted components. The larger the components the more electricity can pass through them, its technically more complicated than that. But thats essentially what it does idk if that helped @monsoon

tibbish

Cupping of chins is getting excessive but otherwise great chapter

Also: He's a rather dubious individual, after all." While I think that its quite right to doubt him I feel like its a bit of a jump to write his nature off as dubious. Hes sheming no doubt, but for me that makes him sound shady....couls be just me though

s476

Thanks for the chapter!

Sebas Tian

Another thing I found out having been in the middle of the annual reread xD was that on chapter 131 it is said that Amara is very bitter towards Yawm, so maybe that could be something they talk about. Anyway thanks a lot for the chapters man!

Sebas Tian

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm also interested in his and Amara's relationship going forward (and I don't mean a harem route or anything) I'm very interested in knowing why she fears him so much and just what she thinks about him, hod, Althea, and their whole situation.

Alex R

Couple of grammar and spelling mistakes. how he just...beleived in himself like that -> how he just...*believed* in himself like that Their complete dicks. -> *They're* complete dicks. How do you think their controlling Lehesion anyways? -> How do you think *they're* controlling Lehesion anyways? Also good chapter.

Monsoon117

That is great to hear. I have a backstory and everything else in my character sheet with her. I think I'll have her discuss it with Daniel in the near future. It would be eye opening for several people I think, plus it would show a lot about the eldritch.

Sebas Tian

Thanks for the chapter! Btw I would really love to know more about Amara, and maybe have her interact with Daniel a little bit more. I think she is potentially one of the most interesting characters you have created.

Monsoon117

Hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. This one was tough to write since it involved intricate details about the story. I also had to research emp's more than I'd like to admit just to make sure it was a workable solution for the nanomachines. There's a lot to that, so I'll see if some electrical engineers and people with know how correct me there. I could always be wrong, and I'm open to suggestions if you have any.
