great chapter, loved reading it. keep up the good work..

One of the reasons I am asking is because Eonoth seems like he could be the Adairs greatest weakness. The only reason they won the battle was because of Eonoth. If the Adairs do not actually have the direct support of Eonoth, if in fact they are potentially an enemy of Eonoth because he does not like how they are manipulating Lehesion, then it would be good strategy for Daniel to try to exploit that weakness.

Conor McGroarty

Any “parental affection” Eonoth has is certainly different from what a normal sentient would consider. Eonoth considers Lehesion their “kid” in the same way a parent would say “I brought you into this world” as it is true and thus they are their “child.” Their relationship is more of a contract holder and one in debt (not one of affection) who still hasn’t fulfilled their end of the deal. Perhaps the reason the Adair’s are able to control Lehesion (besides him probably being in an existential crisis at the time) is that Eonoth opened a “back door” for them to use as they may believe that Lehesion being under their control will have a higher chance of Lehesion fulfilling his end of the deal (he was moping in the wilderness of Geiss for decades and while Old ones don’t care much about time I imagine they at least want to see some effort to achieve the contract). Also I just realized that MC can store lots of singularities in his dimensional storage before a fight and then rapid fire them or just launch all at once like a swarm of hungry gravity bees.

David

I'm unclear on the relationship between the Adairs and Eonoth. It seems unlikely the Adairs are controlling Eonoth. If not control, have they struck a bargain with Eonoth? Or is there no real relationship at all between Eonoth and the Adairs? I know the Adairs are mentally controlling Lehesion, but if Eonoth considers Lehesion his child, why does he allow the Adairs to control Eonoth? It seems like Eonoth should be furious with the Adairs for manipulating his child, and would just crush them.

Monsoon117

No problem. Glad you liked it.

I'll be releasing about 2-3 6,000 word chapters a week on average, so about 12,000-18,000 words on average every week.

Tentaclour

What's the release schedule like?

So Daniel can turn his flesh into mana through blood magic while it is a part of his body. Has he ever tried to convert his flesh after it was removed from his body or does blood magic no longer work? If that is the case, he could now do it with the elemental furnace. He could just continuously store his flesh in his dimensional space and convert it later during battle. Depending on how long he can stockpile he could have near infinite amounts of mana to work with. The important part of this is that there is no matter in space so he could still use the furnace regardless of where his fights are. I would assume that his dense matter would be more mana efficient for him to convert and possibly even easier than regular matter if there is any kind of difficulty in using the furnace. He already converts his matter to mana now so it should be second nature to use a furnace on it. Also if he gets his golem army going he could have them fight with him and he could convert them to mana in an emergency.

Zachary Smith

Whooooo space battle!

Pretentious Slime

It’s a double edged sword. Dealings with an old one are known to come at a cost. Even Yawm was being manipulated by one. It might be better for the Information to remain secret within the higher reaches of Schemas hierarchy. However if people saw Danial fighting toe to to with Lehesion like he was in this chapter, it would do miracles for public image.

Pretentious Slime

Love this chapter

alexander julian

That was so friggin awesome

Dao

thanks for the explanation, i really enjoy how in dept you get with the magic source for this novel

Monsoon117

They do. They tend to be like amplified versions of the two mana types used to make them, and they have a bit more personality to them. Ascendant is for personal dominance, like mastery of one's self and surroundings. Quintessence is about creating and making things better, like a mana for improvement. Primordial mana is a mana all about absolute control, being able to manipulate minds, creatures, summoning, etc. The codex details all this in the basic concept section if you want more info.

Raiser

Looks like Daniel need some practice in space battles

Roderick McKinney

Thanks for the chapter.

Gabriel

Thank you!

Hana Buechel

ABSOLUTELY EPIC BATTLE SCENE!!! Love the chapter! TY ~(OvO)~

Dao

Dose ascendant, quintessence, and primordial mana have a additional abilities or properties on top of the base mana its made of?

drag0nreb0rn

I need another one.

Atlas Dwarf

I believe it does provide more energy than you lose otherwise people like Obolis and Helios wouldn't be able to use it. The key part is that it breaks down matter to energy/mana which he can then dump into his Ciphers. Plus there's a non-glassed planet Daniel can now practice freely on. That and studying an elemental furnace's Cipher should advance him a lot in the Cipher especially with the similarity it has with his aura that consumes the living.

Atlas Dwarf

I don't think announcing an Old One was helping Lehesion would bolster the rebellion well. Remember the Adair's went out of their way to never say what the source of power Lehesion was connected to which seems to imply they don't think it will help their cause. Granted we have seen there are people who worship or hold Old Ones in high esteem in Schema's system but I doubt it would really rally more to their cause especially when Lehesion is supposed to be the hammer to answer Schema. And yeah hopefully Daniel gets something out of this or at least Schema starts ramping up rewards. At the very least Obolis will probably give out more Cipher stuff to Daniel.

Code Reed

Funny enough there's a book series called Daniel Black that features a main character with the same name that figured out an elemental furnace(matter to mana) trick, though admittedly they're don't seem to be the same hurtles there in it being simple to use. Ya just got to be careful not damage it or it'll level a city though. I'm curious how blood magic works on a fundamental level. Is it similar to an elemental furnace, or does it have its own rules. Since considering his weight, if you turned most of him into energy with the regular ol E=MC2 would be more than enough to crack a planet with heat energy alone, not to mention if it was channeles into something like a singularity spell.

Code Reed

Not sure it works like that. If it does it seems to operate at at least some level of loss. An elemental furnace from my understanding is turn matter into energy. Kinda the same thing daniel does with blood magic. Considering that 5pounds of matter is equal to about 48 megatons of TNT (would leave Paris mostly a crator) I doubt the elemental furnace in itself will be all that helpful since it's only doling out a fraction of that so the artifact lasts longer. However, if he can understand it, he can upscale it, make more, fill his dimension with them. The more he has, the more energy he gets, the more he can take in. It's similar to him stockpiling those quinticentence crystals.

Conor McGroarty

One can make the debate that announcing that Lehesion was helped by an old one would bolster the Adair’s influence (could simultaneously freak some people out but considering that those allying with them will be complicit and fully aware of the Hybrids I think it could bolster support if you ignore the potential affects on the mind). So probably best to keep it with the Legion, Empire and Schema for now and spread rumors about the energy Lehesion supplies to the “system” of Adair’s has mind altering properties (very well could since it has the touch from an Old one though likely subtle if it does). Lots of great stuff and MC still needs practice to truly act as a contender against Lehesion. Perhaps MC has enough tree points to get his third line of Sovereign (pretty sure it was close to third). MC can also likely get several goodies from Schema from his feat of standing up to Lehesion (giving the fleet time to increase losses of Adair’s) and to just shore up one of his allies who can provide a breakthrough in this conflict when strong enough (another mythical compendium?). Nearly forgot about info they gathered and how MC could very well be as unkillable as Lehesion (step up from hard to kill).

Alex R

It probably wouldnt because Blood Magic really is just an elemental furnace for just your body. And even if it does. From what Obolios said, they only have a finite amount of mana they can create at a time. So unless that number times the multiplier is higher than his HP/second, it's probably not worth it

Sebas Tian

I think the first thing he needs to talk about is how lehesion is nowhere near as powerful as he appeared and that it was in fact an old one who bailed him out, that should restore some faith in schema. Thanks for the chapter!

Corwin Amber

'avoiding the bast' bast -> blast

Corwin Amber

'The rest of my disintegrated' my -> me

Monsoon117

There are 3 main forms: Origin, the mana of creation, Dominion, the mana of control, and augmentation, the mana of enhancement. They can be fused into three other higher types of mana: Ascendant, dominion + augmentation, Quintessence, origin + augmentation, and Primordial, dominion + origin.

Dao

Can someone refresh my memory on the 3 basic mana type what they do, along with their combination type and what those do. And what and how an elemental furnaces works again? Much appreciated

Detrox

Shouldn't it be the rest of me disintegrated instead of rest of my?

s476

awesome chapter, nice to see that you have the talks and the fights! :D

Monsoon117

That's great to hear.

Monsoon117

Alright, I can elaborate on that beggining portion a bit more.

Joshua Little

I wonder if burning his own body with the furnace would provide more mana than he lost. Would make for a good infinite mana/health cheat. Glad to see he finally used his dimensional powers. Looks like we have all the ingredients to beat Lehesion and Dan the man just needs to take the recipe and cook it right. Thanks for the chapter.

Killer Pickle

Great chapter, the dialogue internal thoughts with Lehesion was great. Looking forward to what happens next and if Danial will have a moment with Althea that really shows how much it scared him.

Manamaw

I really enjoyed this one, one of the better chapters you have put out in a while

Wilhelm Petersson

Great chapter. Really enjoying the fear of earth being discoverd and the mental struggle of lehision

Lockwood

"The high society folk were far chipper, their realities far less grounded." Needs a more after the first far. I think if everyone was killed off by the Adairs, Daniel would go on an insane revenge streak instead of losing the will to live and with him being virtually unkillable and not limited in power through his armor they would be royally fucked. Especially after he starts eating Old Ones. Loved the chap! Keep up the great work!

Monsoon117

Alright guys, this was a difficult chapter to write. I wrote it on the fly one day, but then I reread and didn't like how I handled it. I toned down some of the drama while making sure there was some weight to the events. After that, I redrafted and rewrote the section. I feel much better about it now. That's something interesting about a novel. Every flawed chapter can degrade every piece of text thereafter. It's a strange dynamic not present in many mediums where individual pieces of content are viewed independently. Esoteric thoughts about content creation aside, I hope you guys enjoy, and let me know if you spot any mistakes.
