Monsoon117

Thanks for the fix.

Alex I

Hod held Andrew, getting the boy across. Should be Alexander here. No idea why no one caught onto a completely different name...

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

So portalling isn't something that lacks any reasoning or difficulties involved. It requires a bit of reality bending, along with 'throwing the porta' so to speak. Throwing the portal means matching the orbit of the planet relative to the galaxy. Otherwise, the portal will be left behind and not pinned to the planet. This requires specific knowledge and calculations of the orbit of the planet. Helios, for instance, is so good at warping because he has the memory and calculative ability required to make many of these calculations on the fly for several planets. That's well beyond most people, and they require prolonged rituals to warp. In this case, they don't have the orbital knowledge required, and getting an albony across the border is much harder than Alexander. He's human, not a famous figure in an enemy guild. and his warping style requires less of these mathematical variables. I'll be having a section in a furture chapter about all of this stuff.

Monsoon117

I'm planning on adding another one within the next 3-4 chapters. I'll also be having a skill breakdown and the like.

Idan tal

First- I love Althea and I enjoyed the chapter. Second- couldn’t they just send her, Hod and Helios and he would open a portal from that side?

David

I think that last time was all the way back to chapter 274. Which was four months ago.

ben

When was the last time we saw the status page? Feels like it was month's ago..

Monsoon117

Thanks and fixed.

Monsoon117

Thanks for the thoughts. She tends to learn by killing and researching creatures. She'll actually be doing some of that next chapter.

Monsoon117

Hell yeah man. You too, and stay safe. This has been a rough year for some people, so keep track of your mental health, and keep being positive.

Connor Alexander

I love the scene I'm getting from this chapter, of them jumping into another entirely alien world. It's like the jump from Geiss to Earth or the jump from normal earth to yawm infested territory. It felt truly alien especially with people who aren't at Daniel's level of resilience, actually having even Althea suffer when she has the ability to form a natural carbon filter. And what a great way to bring back our arcane Mage and show the challenges of such a powerful magic. Also I reckon Althea should've learnt about nictating membranes or secondary eye coverings used by semi-aquatic/ desert reptiles to shield the eyes from heat, moisture, or in this case rust flakes. And has she ever thought of using her mutations to oversize normal organs or even force them to produce more than usual? And don't forget her ability to make biological weapons such as the grenade she made from gastric acid(?) early on. (Sorry kinda mind-vomit here) Anyway love the story and what you're doing here, keep it up, and keep healthy/happy!

EvilGodAsura

For sure it had stuff. And that stuff is clearly always good because your you. My only point is that it was different stuff to what you were normally writing. Personally if it was in a different story focusing on Althea as the mc and this small group I would not have had anything to say. It just feels out of place in what I feel started as and should be Daniels story. But your amazing so I'm sure you will be fine and really I just hope you enjoy yourself . ❤

Monsoon117

Also, that comment about this chapter lacking content, I have an opinion on that particular statement. This chapter included inklings of the history of this world, the ecosystem, how planets work on different solar systems, and a ton of lore building for the place. It also showcased more 'normal' people kind of interactions, along with some more character building moments for characters. I get it wasn't all about Lit-RPG stuff and magic, but this still had a lot to 'bite' into. I just think it wasn't your favorite flavor.

Monsoon117

I really thank you for the kind words. I'm not changing the story like that, and Daniel will continue to kick ass throughout the rest of The New World, status updates and monster slaying as always. I'll just be adding some stuff to the formula that works, trying new things here and there, and sticking to stuff you guys enjoy. For instance, the dead world chapter seemed to really resonate with a lot people. That chapter was experimental. Yawm was once experimental, and so were status screens, the eldritch, the horror elements, the action, hell, magic was a shot in the dark when I first introduced it. Those elements make The New World what it is now. With time, practice, and dilligence, I'll add other pieces to this puzzle and the story will be better off for it. Just have patience, and know I'm listening to feedback.

EvilGodAsura

As always you are amazing and I always want that to be very clear. I only hope you keep in mind that I completely understand enjoying writing stories differently. However changing a formula this late into a story is risky for all the readers who have invested in to the story up to this point. It would be like going to watch a comedy movie only for it to become a romantic drama halfway through. Though in this case its a focus on a different narrative than the story began with. If you really want to write something a different way I would prefer you enjoy yourself fully by starting up a new story even if this ones pacing slows down. Ideally the end goal is you enjoying writing whatever you want while preserving what makes the stories so good in the first place until that story ends. Again I have full trust in you finishing the story just fine no matter what you do. I just want number 1 for you to enjoy writing and number 2 to for the stories to finish. In that order. Any criticism I give is fully given In hopes of it assisting your creative process. NOT stopping it.

Monsoon117

I'm hearing you. To clarify, I don't intend on switching styles by any means. I'm just trying something new. That can be alienating, but it's also necessary for my growth as a writer. I have every intention of writing long term, and that means taking risks. Based on your comments and the number of likes they have, this risk didn't pan out. That's ok as it's one chapter. At the same time, I need to be able to write outside the box sometimes. I just want some patience in regards to this. Otherwise, I'll be forced to rehash stuff I already know how to do.

Monsoon117

Thanks and fixed.

Monsoon117

Man, well it's good to get your guys perspectives at times, even if they aren't always positive. I'll have to explain a lot about how warping works to clear up any misconceptions like this. I think that should stifle a lot of concerns about stuff like this, so thanks for letting me know. As far as the criticism for the meat of the chapter, I can understand that. I think it's a matter of scene setting versus content. A lot of people tend to dislike when an author overemphasizes how a circumstance comes about, and they prefer seeing situations be played out/resolved. To me, writing a chapter like this where it's more of a physical venture is fun every now and again, but I'll keep your inputs in mind.

EvilGodAsura

Really feels like authors sometimes have this habit of switching from what makes a story good in the first place before finishing the story. Powering up side characters that are not as interesting and should not be as interesting as Daniel's system breaking methods just lacks a lot of the same impact and desire to know more. Its like trying to make multiple main characters and instead making the actual main character seem much more pathetic and less interesting by making the things about them less and less special. The writing style is sooooooo good but I stayed here mostly because of how Deeply interesting Daniel is and how the magic and his armor are so amazingly described how they interact with and change him. Again just pure opinions not hate. I love the story as a whole still and only offer my honest feelings in hopes of it being useful to both finishing the story and everyone being happy in the end.

Code Reed

I kinda agree. I think it's more that I'm not a fan of Athena, and sneaky sneak stuff isn't my thing. Comparing Daniel's trip into a barren world, and this one, I like his a lot more. You could really feel how cold and empty that world really was. It left an impression. I don't really feel much about this world yet. Also, was there a reason they couldn't just steal the coordinates for the planet from the warp pad, then use Helios to warp there? I'm sure they could have figured out what system it was easily enough. Adjust the coordinates to drop a spy satellite in geosynchronous orbit above the the base. Use that to fine tune a landing site and warp directly into an old base to make it secure before sending the only known being capable of hacking Schema directly into enemy controlled territory where that information could be used disastrously against them?

Damn, could almost FEEL the gritty air on my face

EvilGodAsura

I skimmed the chapter and felt like I missed nothing. Then read very carefully and confirmed I missed nothing. I can't find anything to grip onto here. The detail is great as always. But it lacks anything memorable beyond a few things about Amara. Nothing like the constant skill gains and mixes early on or the descriptions of feeling magic. Again just personal input. Your actual writing skill is amazing as always I just can't find any meat to bite into in this.

Blake Richardson

Thanks for the chapter

Amara helped build Schema

Aidan MacFetridge

porage -> porridge and win -> wind. Thanks for the chapter!

Lockwood

Really good descriptions in this chappy man, it really stands out. The rundown city reminded me of the futuristic city in samurai Jack. Can't wait to see what goes wrong for our heroes. Also in paragraph 19(counting from the end) the first sentence has a typo. "We did, and the magic kept the win(wind) and rust out, clearing the air here." Thx for the chap m8

Monsoon117

I wrote this chapter very quickly, and I went through an extensive editing process to enrich details about the world, mostly via observation, through taste, and through touch. I enjoyed writing this so much that I extended this other world section by a chapter, so you guys can expect one more before we're back in Daniel's POV. I also aim to incorporate a skill breakdown section and catchup for Daniel's trees in the chapter after this one. I can forget to add those sometimes, so it's helpful to leave a polite reminder if I'm missing something.
