Sure a weakness would be good. But a weakness to patisites (which he doesn't gave) goes against his strengths. His whole shtick is being unkillable, physically, mentally, emotionally or spitually. His weakness. Like the armour upgrades say. Is being 'feared, abhorred and loathed'. In saying that I really like the politics of him world hopping and being earth's ambassador so I don't want him to be completely fucked in that area

Shannon Smith

It already HAS increased his size by a LOT. But he got the mass manipulation skill that let him compact his physical form to be smaller. Several people have commented on it, including Torix and Yawm.

Shannon Smith

Just say Final Fantasy 7's materia :P That was literally the lifeblood of the planet, and using it as a power source was killing the whole world.

Shannon Smith

Yeah... Not seeing Thisbey stopping him. Not MUCH stops Daniel once he has his mind set. I would say you could ask Yawm or his minions, but...

Shannon Smith

They literally just said that internal mana doesn't pollute. All his mana comes from his own body, and regenerates naturally. "You can use internal mana all you want. It's the will of your own mind. It regenerates if you give your mind some time to rest." Followed by: "Drawing from nature is different. It's like sapping the will of the world, and it leaves a toxic, inhospitable mush behind."

Pretentious Slime

Yeah seems so

Highfist

i think it would be a mix of both

Alex R

He has already done something like that with getting the Eldritch out of Kessiah and Ajax. Daniel also doesn't really feel much pain anymore either. He also isn't really poking straws into it, if something tries to invade his body, as soon as it touches a part of his body, it'll just be absorbed. The armor literally is running through every part of his body at this point.

Stephen Emrick

I'm not saying his armor isn't good but try catching something the size of a flea moving around at super fast speeds with a needle. Now imagine that inside your body. It may work eventually but imagine how painful that would be. Still he doesn't really need a symbiote and for a good story he needs weaknesses, otherwise he would be a Mary Sue.

Pretentious Slime

It usually takes quite a few chaptersz

Daniels armour isn't just on him it's a part of him and runs throughout his whole body. if a silver got into his body it would die because the armour would just poke its straws into and drink it dry.

Connor Alexander

Gotta say I love this idea. I am really keen to see Daniel become a walking sun, and If not that a walking black hole. His road ahead is still long, so we don’t know if these suggestions will make it through - but I think we got hope

Pretentious Slime

This would bring on way to many sexual innuendoes. 😩

Stephen Emrick

I just had a weird thought. One of the only ways I could think of Daniel being stronger is if he had a parasite/symbiote that helped repair injuries even faster than by himself. Smiler to the venom symbiote from marvel universe. Althea is a shapeshifter who can become liquid. She could literal use Daniel as a double suit of armor. One of the reasons I thought of this was that technically Daniel is still vulnerable to parasites. His armor is all that protects him but sometimes his enemies poke holes in it. If a silver got in her would be fuked. Althea could be like "occupied" and push it out. Daniel should not have a problem with this, it's not like he hasn't been inside of her.

Monsoon117

They're essentially basic power ups to begin a guild with. They just give a different set of stats when compared to Endurance. I'll elaborate on in later chapters.

Pretentious Slime

Constitution basically makes Danial dense, hard, and heavy. I could imagine that it would probably do all that and increase his size if he went down those lines even further. Maybe, like a star or a planet, the further one cuts into Danials flesh and bones(his hypothetical core) the more they are faced with unbearably hot and hardened material. Will power would be more like the little train that could. It thought, “I think I can” while traversing a terribly steep hill. It eventually made it over. I can imagine that the willpower legacie would have a lot to do with him temporarily surpassing his limits. Like goku going super saiyen or super man coming back to life stronger to defeat doomsday.

Alex R

Have you decided what the Constitution and Willpower legacies do?

Monsoon117

Probably feared as a demon.

Monsoon117

Mana created by a being isn't a pollutant. Mana drawn from nature is. In Yawm's case, he split atoms and converted the nuclear energy into mana. The gialgathens are drawing mana that's just lying around. Once the mana's gone, the mana saturated ground converts into toxic, unlivable sludge. I imagine it like it was the life force of a planet so to speak.

Pretentious Slime

Would he be praised like a god?

Connor Alexander

Thanks for the chapter! Real late to this cause of things going on but man what a chapter. So much conniving going on in the background, and I hope it doesn't disturb Daniel too much. Also It is rather sad to hear that mana is such a massive pollutant, but guess everything doesn't come free - except eldritch energy to eldritch (Though that hunger must hurt)!

Pretentious Slime

He will consume so much of it that he can taste the sludge... forever.

Pretentious Slime

It would be super weird if danial reached a world like earth that hasn’t yet been touched by schema.

Pretentious Slime

He may have lost the battle, but he hasn’t lost the war!

Alex R

I actually forgot about the armor evolutions but it is a pretty simple way to get him to evolve without some other Deux ex machina or time skip. Just turn Daniel into the bottom of some massive mana funnel and bye bye mana pollution. Even though Thisbey won't let him do that because it removes a major reason to hate the Gialgathens. Or atleast he will try.

REPOsPuNKy

Daniel is going to use his armor to devour all the sludge isn't he? And obtain the next evolution for his armor while he is at it. But he wont realize he can do this till he fucks up majorly at some point. Just a guess on my part.

Monsoon117

I'm sorry, but pollution man has to take one for the team.

Pretentious Slime

Awww, pollution man sounded so promising lol.

Monsoon117

This is how I intended it to be understood. I'll make it more clear because there's obviously some confusion here.

Ferco

Yes, but it manifests from inside. HIS mana go around making lightnings and those things, it's not the mana "of the World".

Pretentious Slime

Dude when he conjures his mana it is so potent that you can fucking see it. Like lightning and shit comes out of his ruins.

Jeremiah Paltridge

Nah. As dramatic as that would be, Althea doesn't seem insecure enough to do that.

Jeremiah Paltridge

Daniel's mana is completely internal. Keep in mind that internal mana manipulation and generation is nonpolluting. Manipulation of environmental mana creates pollution.

Pretentious Slime

Delilath passes the weed to Danial and he goes all in. (This is a joke since it’s as if danials on drugs when fighting her)

Pretentious Slime

Danial on a depressing day: “The world is better off without me.” Me: “Well technically, if you factor in your mana and how conjuring it to the extreme polutes the environment, then yes Danial... yes it is.”

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Pretentious Slime

Danials new name: MANA MAN! Polutes the environment...

Pretentious Slime

Plus this chapter just introduced mana pollution and that would be just about the most efficient way to irradiate toxic amounts of mana. Especially if he kept feeding the heat to his armor and skin. He would basically be a walking piece of super heated, highly potent, mana laced uranium.

Synben28

Two things though. First, I'm pretty sure there have been a number of intense, difficult fights where Daniel has improvised and experimented mid fight to get an advantage. Second, there have been other opportunities for him to use it. The two times he went and spent several hours fighting and clearing out silvers while investigating seem like they were perfect opportunities to experiment with new abilities.

Pretentious Slime

The combat he entered with that lady was highly intense. He couldn’t afford to experiment mid fight. I mean, it got so out of hand that he ended up loosing control and killing her... That’s like me entering a close range gun fight and half way through getting shot at, switching to a shotgun while loading slugs just to see if I could do a little more damage. I would have to be pretty fuvking suicidal to just chance it lol. Plus I have no doubt that the ability is ALOT more effective with a seemingly endless energy sorce. He’s not trying to kill her and the people sitting around the arena would be baked alive.

Great chapter. As for me , I was thinking if this will turn as a relationship stepping stone where althea will get angry at daniel for not approaching her first at his moment of weakness. Althea did just remind Daniel that he does not need to face everyhing alone and she will take Daniel’s approach to Thisbey first as a sign of not giving her more trust.

Synben28

Er, the basics is all he really needs to start experimenting with it for combat. He just wanted to be able to heat his armor up to extreme temps, and then cool it down. He should have been able to roughly do that as soon as he got the unique skill. Plus, my main confusion is him holding off on linking it Force of Nature. He seems to be spending time training the skill with that chunk of metal, but it just seems like it would be a lot more efficient and effective to train it after getting the power and control boost that comes from linking it. And efficient training is basically one of Daniel's hallmarks

Monsoon117

He will, but he's developing the skill right now. He has very reliable, powerful skills for actual combat and that's more so just something to do in his spare time. It will become a mainstay in his combat though.

Pretentious Slime

Dude he JUST learned the basics, chill. (Puns)*

Pretentious Slime

*Slow dramatic clapping noises* bravo! bravo! This one chapter trumps all others. A master piece in its final form. Shia labeouf would be proud.

Synben28

Still wondering when Daniel's actually going to use Thermomancy in combat. He's had plenty of opportunities between the easy tournament fights where he had room to experiment, the time spent clearing out silvers where he also could have experimented, and now he's had a long and difficult fight where it could have given him an edge to better handle the fight. Especially when using it in combat is the best way to link it to Force of Nature which he mentioned as his next step for it. Not to mention the boost from the linking would probably make it easier to train.

Evanescence229

Great chapter, made me tear up a bit when she passed. I kinda hope he does something for her funeral, if gialgathens have those.

Hana Buechel

GLOBAL SLUDGING

Monsoon117

This is my line of logic for the chapter, and I hope this eases you're concerns. Daniel is kind of stunned right now, so a lot of his mind if focused on what just happened. Thisbey, a charisma oriented person, swoops in and takes advantage of this moment of weakness. It's less that Daniel's weak and more so that Thisbey is good at what he does. I'll comment more below.

Hana Buechel

ALIEN CLIMATE CHANGE!!!

Corwin Amber

thanks for the chapter

Gabriel

There is what seems to me to be a massive inconsistency that bothers me. Why does Daniel trust a word out of Thisbey's mouth? Why is he interacting with him? He know he has the worst traits of Yawm and even wants to farm Eldritch like yawm. Daniel just had a traumatic experience and then goes and plays nice with someone who literally wears an intelligent being's skin for clothing. He is worse than Yawm, at least yawm had some ideals, Thisby just seems like someone who wants power for the sake of power. Daniel seems to know all this, and after killing someone he didn't mean to kill he goes and eats with a monster who would WANT to wear the person he killed?! What is Daniel someone else now? Did his brain break? Why did he not go see his friends after that? Why did he not try to interact with people on stage? Why did he not do anything of his own accord and simply accpected everything people around him were telling him? This is not the character I like and I kinda hate this character. I don't understand and because I really like this story it's REALLY bothering me. I really, really hate this chapter, I don't really care about the death of the character but it really feels as if Daniel is a different weaker, more useless person. In front of a massive audience, acted friendly with a person who wears the skin of the people he just killed. Wtf. Why? He has no reason to help Thisby, he has already made better connections.

Maritropa

Great chapter, Giess' state of affair is starting to make sense >:o

Maritropa

*Booming voice* That trope has no power here!

Monsoon117

Thanks. Fixed.

Loric

I don’t think torix and the others were there for that fight? They were still at the hotel talking over the plan the revenant lady suggested i think

Magnus Gullhav Leikvik

I shrugged, "I don't care too much about fame to (be) honest with you. If anything, it just gets in the way."

Dionisio Trigo

The mc isn’t a walking deux ex machina, it should be clear that his skillset is clearly skewed towards murdering and staying alive, regardless of the rpg magic shenanigans. Nor has he needed that particular skillset in the past. Maybe this incident will help inspire a change towards being a plain killing machine, but its unlikely.

Monsoon117

My mistake. Thanks for pointing this out, and fixed.

BladeTytan

What is it with Americans, and countries nearby, using "I could care less" as a way of saying that there is nothing they care less about than that subject. It should be "I couldn't care less". Sorry about the rant, but it bugs me.

great chapter but can't Torix help with Delilath's death? At the very least he could bring her back as an undead unless the level discrepancy is to high. I doubt that the gialgathens be ok with that but just an idea. Either way great chapter was definitely an eye opener for Daniel.

Kevin Ramos

And like always, mother nature is a cold bitch. Weather is the strong verses the weak or Magical pollution, nature has a way of solving times in a break manner.

CptJimmy

What a twist, keep it coming

Ferco

Not ok! You can pull up all the RPG "magic" for Daniel to be able to use a glorified box technique, but you can't save Delilath?? He could have still learned the leason with an "almost" murder. I really hate you at the moment.

Jess Koch

I was shocked the mc is not supposed to fail at saving the person he punched a hole in.

Alex

Monsoon you made me tear up at work, that was not okay. Excellent writing as always. I look forward to crying when Daniel accidentally kills one of his friends (I'm thinking it's gonna be Torix or Althea, get that deep pain)

Monsoon117

I didn't get enough sleep on Saturday night, so I wrote this chapter while not at my best. I got plenty of sleep last night though, and I edited/rewrote parts of it. It turned out pretty solid in my opinion, but let me know what you think about it.
