I really want Daniel to be willing to dominate like this. The Shadow dude is awesome.

Jonathan

Considering all of that, 30% wasn't cutting it considering what I imparted and where they stood. Considering considering and the Emporer clapped, Emperor Perhaps, but by exploiting my weakness, know that I will exploit your weaknesses in kind." when exploiting reads better to me

I really like this edited version, definitely worth the time imo. Some things are put into better perspective, and even the conversations seem to flow better. Nicely done, thanks for the chapter.

Don't take the negative comments to heart. There will always be unsatisfied people. You can never make 100% of peoe happy. I personally liked the chapter. For me it showed Daniels growth, in that he realizes his personal worth and is not willing to downplay or accept less than what he is truely worth, regardless if he has to ruffle some feathers.

Rubeno

Not sure if it's should be the case. We are talking about people with centuries of lifespan, access to technologies Mc doesn't even have, almost unlimited funds and long lifespan means many schema Quests done which ewuqls) equals high lvl. Even if they are not weak combat wise its weird how bad they adapt.

Ferco

Sure, but remember that in this base there are only the weak ones. The really powerfull ones are either on their own or with Valgus.

Rubeno

Galaxy leaders were initially introduced as higher if not highest shelf of schema in terms of power level. They were supposed to be sharks. And even Obolis was at most leader of new empire at the fringe of schema space incomparable to those old monsters from more central parts of schema space who had time and resources to survive and thrive schema constantly throwing challenges at them. And yet they are shown as bunch of pushovers even politically speaking. Hell, Florence who is literally political newbie lifespan wise is better than anyone of those morons.

I've implemented a few strategies to get better at responding to feedback. A simple list of them has helped immensely. A. Wait at least one day before reading comments. This gives me some distance from the hard days of work versus reading a poor recpetion to said hard work. It's essentially emotional distancing, which is important for any profession but especially writing. B. I relegate my emotional response to all comments, not one comment. For this chapter for instance, there's plenty of positive feedback, and lots of people liked it. There's a strong undercurrent of dissatisfaction with how I handled the negotiation for various reasons. So instead of thinking I failed the chapter, I recognize I failed at executing a portion of the chapter. The other parts, like Shalahora's shakedow, the writing itself, and the flow weren't problems at all. That means I only need to work on the logistical concerns, and that makes the issue much, much smaller. C. Recognize my limitations. I only can do so much, and these are difficult chapters all written one after the other at a quick pace. I'm going to struggle, and that's good. Some mistakes mean I'm still taking risks and trying as an author. This is looking at the situation as a positive rather than a negative. Spills aside, thanks for giving me well rounded feedback Radangus. I also don't read all of your words because there huge blocks. I skim, acess, read the other comments, skim again, come up with a plan, skim one last time, etc. It breaks it all up into bite sized chunks for me.

Radangus

you make me feel bad by handling my addiction to this book and overreaction to what i consider any slight issue with such grace, humility, and tact. love ya

@Randangus's original comment - I figured that pretty much any take would be difficult to manage. It's impossible to make several dozen characters stand out in 1-2 chapters, so I tried to take a more limited approach. That being said, I do think some justification and tone down can be introduced. I could add in more dialogue between each transitions for the deals so that the rulers are more competent. Introducing a backstory for the frog ruler would also give him a bit more reasoning and depth. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it, but I could add in a few lines spread throughout the chapter to build his backstory and worldbuild at the same time. Someone mentioned him inheriting his Empires, which I considered. Having that mentioned in his case would be a great way of explaining his sense of invincibility. I also didn't clarify how much of the factional interplay left the rulers crippled. I emphasized the elements rather than the battles with Valgus and the like. I'll include that in the medical section and in the fighting portion of the chapter. I'll do that with a few other fixes, and that should round out the beleivability elements here. It's all going to take some time, but I can think of a framework to address the critiques. They seem valid, and it's really just a matter of fleshing out more details. I'll see if I can't get it done without slowing down too much, but no promises there.

On the whole gravity manipulation thing, that isn't really that impressive judging from the reactions of people like Iona Joan who seemed pretty unimpressed. Which makes sense since there's probably tons of magic and equipment out there to modulate gravity. What's really impressive would be Daniel's method of powering the field in perpetuity which they can't really see given the short time the field was running. That's why their main concern was stated to be mana; with sufficient mana, they could probably take care of the majority of the other tasks like shielding, environmental modification, etc. They aren't really that stupid, it's just Daniel's too out of the ordinary. I doubt any other Ruler could provide what Daniel did; his mana generation and crafting abilities give him unique advantages which haven't been seen before judging by the state of the other rulers.

Thanks for the chapter

They did notice the gravity change, they thought it was Leviathan-7 fluctuation for a few minutes before they noticed it lasted a lil too long. Frog guy could be one of the sovereigns who inherited their power, not all of them earned their planets. None of them trust Daniel over Jona and for a good reason seeing as how he looks like an eldritch monstrosity, so I would also doubt any claims of good intent. Also it was claimed earlier that there was a better base set up but Valgus crushed the Schemas faction, which is why you have the weak left over. Its definetly a power fantasy where Daniel is the only one who can come in and save the day, but thats kinda been the theme of the novel this entire time. No one on Earth has risen to protect it from eldritch and foreign invasion but Daniel. So I agree with ya guys on that part

Another awesome chapter. Some other commenters may not like how the council comes off as pushovers/weak but that only stems from a lack of insight into their characters. It was implied heavily in this chapter that this council has fighters but Obolis is by far their best. That means the other members are not as powerful or combat-focused. Not to mention that no one besides Obolis even knows Daniel, his capabilities and no one knows Shalahora as that was his first meeting.

Gardor

The core of my problem is just how useless these people seem. I understand they're out of their element, that they're politicians or accountants or whatever, but they should at least be competent. Frog guy doesn't have a danger sense, a social one at least? No one noticed that the entire base had it's gravity manipulated, and the 20 foot tall evilly grinning sentient armor who floated up next to your angelic figure head claiming to have done it is the guy you want to poke with a stick? These people act like a PTA meeting when Brenda forgot her turn to bring donuts, not hundred year old career politicians.

LeWorms

The last 2 paragraphs were so badass, some of the best stuff I’ve seen from this story. There’s a lot of good stuff but THAT is sticking in my brain. Great chapter!!!!!!!

Ferco

The only thing that kind of surprised me a little bit was how fast and hard Obolis supported Daniel. If Obolis could do better by himself, he would be out there by himself, which tells me he HAD to ally himself with these "weak" rulers out of necessity, thus, Daniel arriving and promising to fix a lot of things would be quite a relief. Maybe if Daniel noted or "guessed" the desperation in Obolis, this chapter would feel better for me? But it's really nit picking, I'm already happy with the chapter as it is.

ClementCrown

Holy tit fuck this was good, I appreciate you allowing shalahora a chance to swim his huge metaphorical dick around, love your work!

Anon_Anon

Wait, Shalahora is a literal sun-swallower? Because if so, that's insane. Even the smallest star known to mankind IRL is the size of Saturn and 700 Earths can fit inside Saturn. I wonder what situation would have resulted in him getting eating a star.

Anon_Anon

It seems to be like the majority of the whole "portraying the council as weak and indecisive" originates from Obolis's ass-kissing which makes sense, it's a political move where he tries to ingratiate himself with Daniel and set himself up as the sole member of the council that set up a deal which saved everybody. The "aged eyes full of doubt" line also makes sense since as far as they know, Daniel is a 25 year old ruler from a just-integrated planet who walked in promising he could fix the problems that even a host of hundreds of far more experienced rulers can't resolve and demanding 50% of the current and future gains of the entire group. Who wouldn't be doubtful and disdainful of that claim? Lastly, I haven't seen anything in Daniel that indicated he was basking in praise Obolis' praise. He was coming down pretty hard on Obolis by negotiating the percentages and requiring the treaty to be signed in the cipher. I think he just sat aside and let Obolis speak since that was the route that would get him his agreement the fastest.

The convenient thing about asexual reproduction is that as long as there is one, a species will never die (in theory anyway). I wonder if Shalalora’s species requires (required since “he?” Is the last) a partner? They are a solitary species but that doesn’t mean that they have zero interactions or require another for offspring. In any case, while Daniel has tormented himself greatly with his time warping, Shalalora’s sheer lifespan and experiences mean he has so many different “colors” of pain to the tapestry of his existence. Daniel’s loneliness on Leviathan 7 can be considered a microcosm of his own as Daniel has his base species around and friends. No idea if Shalalora has a guild or allies or is just a guild of one?

Radangus

i’m gonna be honest, this chapter really didn’t do it for me. it just feels like a power fantasy, and i know thats kind of what the whole book is, but this one takes the cake. i mean really, daniel shows up and anyone who doesn’t instantly trust his capabilities is dumb and anyone who wants to protect their resources and safety rather than risk it on a random is stupid? no, this should not be as one-sided as that. of course shalahora being all powerful and being daniels perfect ally, i’ve complained about jt before. “the rest of you evolved past unicellular life. commendable, truly”. this line peeves me so much as obolis being a kissass and daniel sitting there basking in his praise like an insecure but arrogant fuck. “The rulers gazed at Obolis, their aged eyes full of doubt, disorder, and disdain.” it just doesn’t feel real, none of these rules are individual except for the one who is used to set an example. not exactly an in depth complex character interaction. every ruler is portrayed as old, doubtful (like its a bad thing here) and disdainful. of what? he’s just trying to make a deal. i dont like the vilifying of a council or acting like they’re only helping the weak for moral superiority (even if its only said to be one guy). i dont want to sound overly negative, and the fact you’ll read this only makes me more embarrassed, i just feel very strongly because i love this story and it feels like this chapter was just a power trip over a vague council with no individuality

Kryn

Thank you for the chapter

Connor Alexander

Great chapter! Glad that Obolis is no fool, and knows when to push and when to give. Would love to see how the other rulers fare when given a little space to breathe and think, and how Daniel’s insane creative capabilities effect them! Thanks for writing Monsoon!

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Gardor

"I ask that you put little stock in their words." Obolis looked at and pinched his claws at the rulers, "No stock in your words yet. After you all are made aware, then he should listen as you have many skills and vast knowledge" Unclear who's being addressed and who's being referred to here, I think you flip pronouns around

Ty for the chap

This chapter was fun to write, being a real pressure release compared to the previous one. That'll be coming back on in the next chapter, but I'm appreciating the break here. Anyways, enjoy guys.
