How do you right so well? It's bloody amazing, I was holding my breath while reading, at the edge of my seat.

Conor McGroarty

"To test a man's strength have him be put in a moment of weakness, to test a man's character give him unrestricted power... Depending on how they use it will show who they truly are." From Spawn novel The Avatar was just something hollow. Looks like Elysium lost this round but would have been nice if more of the surviving rulers Daniel allied with had lived. Elysium unleashing the Avatar (plus planted hybrids) was an unexpected move of mass death and destruction. Did umbral shadow guy capture the remnant Elysium stationed? What about whoever planted those Hybrids into some Rulers? Still some things to clean up before this situation is completely done.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Monsoon117

That would be terrifying. Love it lol.

Kristopher Abraham

One of the things I'm most looking forward to once he is back home is another mental battle with Torix. I mean how do you psyonical fight someone that has done so much worse to themself as training. Daniel could just keep throwing minds at Torix, even if he is pretty quick to kill each mind. Instead of being exhausted, Daniel will all be like 'Oh yeah this brings back some memories' while smiling.

FlawlessMovement

Hey this is one of Daniels most visceral “I’m one of a few TRUE immortals in existence.” Most rulers died from being NEAR him, even the ones he grew close to, and planned with. Yet he still stands, immovable and unending, alone.

Chance Rose

I mean, we had a huge portion dedicated to his war with Elysium, and in his rewards for the cease fire that program was in bold as being noticed by Daniel. Now that he knows schema is blocking him, beating him within the bounds of his own game is the only way. And what can schema say? Sorry you can't use this program because I don't want you to learn this mana and be able to beat my ass when you get entropy after?

Chance Rose

I think he will bypass the restriction on primordial mana with the program he recieved from Elysium. He can't pass the threshold since schema is blocking it with entropy. But if Daniel uses the program schema will have to let him use it lest he break his own program protocols.

Harley Shockley

I don’t think there will ever be a 100% physical resistance. It’ll just keep going into smaller and smaller decimals, causing him to become tens of times more durable every time it reaches 99 in the new two decimal places.

Never be afraid to own faults, and never be afraid to avcept the incidental ways imperfections can improve something. A rope ladder falls straight down; a crumbling wooden one cracks and splays and splinters. That said, I don't know if the interpersonal quibbles here necessarily made it all better. Functionally, I think many rulers behaved in a very human, almost "medieval noble" manner. The pressure of power and imbalance thereof across the rulers and Daniel has been done very well pretty often, yet sometimes undermined by the almost webnovel-esque "crowd" scenes. It was played very well within some previous arcs with the struggles of nobility, but Daniel's "wise savage" run has to end somewhere. I think you have drawn that line very well - we cross it when someone pushes their luck and very suddenly realizes what the fuck they're dealing with. Your 1:1 work flows more naturally, and like this chapter shows, can be really augmented by your flair for visceral imagery that elevates compartmentalized/internal conflict. I will say the wiggly scope of interactions with the other rulers - sometimes impersonal, sometimes very personal - makes the fallout interesting, because I can read it as Daniel really not knowing how to deal with peers, but really trying his best - and they're dead now. Even the ones he learned from and cared about. All this rambling aside, I am excited to see where this goes! And if you find yourself struggling with how something comes out, or whether something doesn't flow a specific way, or your themes aren't being presented right: the best way to ever get to the top is by pushing the boundaries while being very much at the bottom and in the middle.

Monsoon117

I think I was out of my depth as well. It's nice to stretch and see where the faults are. I'll have to work on creating better dialogue overall with older characters. I'll also need to work on my organization so that more complex dynamics don't end up so messy. That being said, leaning into how messy it all is kind of cleaned it up in a way, so I'm not ashamed of this arc or anything. I just know there's more to work on which is exciting in its own way.

Kristopher Abraham

I'm wondering if the rune will allow him to bypass Schema blocking his ability to use primordial mana.

Qrystof

In large numbers, maybe. I'm still javing trouble with the "primordial rune". Did it ever get addressed on when it was made? I'm also expecting his sovereign skill to to pop soon with his expansion here. Fighting with golems, mind, and fists becoming his sovereign skill makes sense.

Kristopher Abraham

I wouldn't be surprised if his golems could take on Lehesion at this point.

K

I half believed the story was gonna continue from another's perspective after the outcome of this chapter. Daniel's definitely gonna have a lot to share after this lottery, most interestingly with Schema. As calculating as Schema is I'm sure he didn't expect Daniel to actually slay a rival's avatar, or only had a tiny probability to. He's gonna come out of this hellhole as something unrecognizably more powerful, well rounded and accomplished even in the eyes of Lehesion. Elysium also broke their truce so I assume he's free to bash horns with them again for the better of the galaxy. Look forward to the next chapter as always!

John Smif

Where the story struggles with dialogue, it excels in these scenes. Natural dialogue will come with time. Good work!

Zachary Smith

Jesus Christ that was intense I loved it!

Stefan Mensink

I'm still really enjoying this story :-)

FlawlessMovement

But the contract was to change schema itself not the power balance. Remember cipher is TRUE intent based contracting. Yawn meant reprogram him and Daniel knowingly agreed. That contract is still binding

Hana Buechel

.SO.FUCKING.COOL!!!! This chapter was AMAZING! God I want more, love this story!

Kristopher Abraham

Makes me wonder how close he is to getting 100% physical resistance.

Arnon Parenti

The contract sais "change something in schema" the avatar to baldowagh is a huge feature of schema. Removing the Avatar changes the whole power dynamics within schema, not just this piddling dimension. It's only possible in this cut off sandbox world because otherwise schema would have just restored the avatar, it's not feasible Daniel who is 5 minutes old is the only creature with the reset button ability. Schema created Daniel to destroy the Eldritch infesting him, and was willing to sacrifice all these kings and emperors just to destroy this single Old One Avatar. Contract with Yawm complete, for all 4 parties of it. (Daniel, Yawm, Ethorma and Schema)

FlawlessMovement

No one has mentioned either that he was at saturation point on his cipher runes for a WHILE. So long as schema doesn’t screw him around I’m literally excited to see what his attributes look like at this point. I mean he has to have dumped enough mana into himself over this whole venture that you have to express it as a scientific notation at this point

Kurt A

This was an epic chapter. By far one of the best death-struggles I’ve seen.

William Christie

Great job on another chapter! Glad to see you back in action! Thanks!

Austin Conrad

This one was really good.

serguzzle

This was one of the best chapters in this tale for a long time. Great work! The visceral descriptors you really like to use worked very well here. The struggle and determination at the core of this story fit very well here too. I'm glad for the breakdown of this arc into a proper crucible. It was... noisy. I feel like you were out of your depth within the previous segment of this arc with the different rules, but it also had its place. Having it set up as a peak before the trough is a lot more compelling.

Roy Nikkel

I must have missed something, would you mind telling me how what happened relates to the contract?

Patrick

Thanls for the chapter! An epic battle of the minds indeed.

Shin

It was quite chaotic but really good Lets see which gains Daniel takes this time after he has once again outlived his enemy 😁😁😁

Reyhulko

Great!

Arnon Parenti

Ooh finally done with Yawm's contract, I wish Yawm was revived with it's contract's completion, a healthier Yawm, joining Daniel in the new world.

Rafael Nehou

Man, that chap was insane. One of the most humbling experience Daniel had, I think. Great work, hope you're doing well !

Blake Richardson

Thanks for the chapter! It was great

Qrystof

Great chapter. Glad you're producing again. Hope that this pushes the story forward into new ground!

Monsoon117

Ah man, guys, I'm actually pretty proud of this chapter. Generally speaking, my fight scenes and conflicts are more physical. This one tended more towards the immaterial, but I don't think it was worse off for it. I was also able to incorporate a lot of twists and turns in the conflict to make it more tense. I ended up getting caught up in reading my own chapter while editing it, and I was actually excited to share this with you guys. It has been a long time since I've felt confident, regardless of what I'm making, so that's a win in my book. Either way, enjoy, guys.
