Hm, interesting point. I'm not necessarily trying to demonstrate raw trauma as much as show what keeps Daniel up at night. The guy doesn't sleep, of course, but you get what I mean. Also, those are some nice metaphors in the earlier comment.

serguzzle

I see, thanks for that note. I'm not 100% sure that a reaction to trauma is what I exactly read from that change in his speech patterns/style, but I believe I understand your intent!

Monsoon117

I meant for it to feel out of place. It's one of the few topics that has weighed on Daniel throughout the series, and it's something that affects him on a different level than most stuff.

I just remembered whilst reading the new chapter that I didn't have the time to previojsly share my thoughts on this one. Overall, I find it interesting. The world is big but small. I think that's been described well. The Empire and Obolis' family have been shrunk down perhaps a tad bit too much. Also, I think that we've hit "disaffected, kicking enemies aside and wondering how it should feel" stage of Daniel's power growth in some ways. It is kind of where I expected it, and I'm keen to see how it continues to escalate. One thing. "Out of the ashes of every fallout, I rise" - that is fanciful narration and a particularly ostentatious statement of resiliency. It's nice. I think it's a valid statement. But it's not cogent with Daniel's communication style, and doesn't match his other lines during this conversations. He doesn't need two-dollar words when each knuckle is a roll of quarters... or whatever.

Dude almost everyone has heard the variant of “your not that guy buddy” lol it’s the opposite, I AM that guy

justin

At some point Daniel needs to build up an army so he can go fight them and defend earth. Not just one super man to save the day

Illue

I’m honestly surprised more people haven’t heard of that phrase, or some variation of it. I immediately got what you said when you said “He is him.” As in, “he is that guy (who is special/smart/powerful) and no one can compare to him”.

Monsoon117

I can have it mentioned in passing the next chapter if possible. It will have to be implied more than stated, however.

Monsoon117

It was my attempt at making an internet slang-based joke. I hear this phrase: I am him. It's a cocky response to someone asserting your unlikelihood of succeeding. Eg, "Yo bro, you know that there's like a one in a million chance you'll make it the NBA." The guy in question, "Yeah, but I am him." After looking it up, the reference is far more obscure than I imagined it was. Built different will have to suffice.

Calleman20

That would be awesome, the one time we saw it i think it said he was basicly unkilable or something but now.... I mean getting pm his bad side doesn't just gurantee your death it guarantees the death of your entire planet of he feels like it if not more.

Calleman20

What do you mean by he is him? That he is his own person or what?

Firstly Daniel and Kessiah have barely talked in months so she doesn't really know where his head space is at in terms of responsibilities and goals and stuff. Secoundly her perspective is one of a powerful, centuries old immortal who was asked to help this like 18 year old barely systemized kid by an old friend and she couldn't hack it and gave up letting him shoulder all the responsibility and now its been years and this kid had been taking on more and more, he literally just took on responsibility for his entire solar system without missing a beat and she's seeing a blind march foward from him that reminds her of her own downward spiral into guilt. And honestly. That thought proccess is pretty sound to me.

alexander julian

It's mundane given their level of society. The cipher is legal for sovereigns and we know this is being used to treat royals not just willy nilly so it doesn't really need to be explicitly stated

Monsoon117

I wasn't super psyched with her response either, but sometimes people don't support your choices or goals. Her heart is in the right place, but she doesn't understand that Daniel is quite literally built different. He is him. Etc. I remember whenever I started writing, it was the same for me with lots of people I knew. Not the being built different aspect but being passively discouraged. They'd tell me stuff like that, and they didn't mean it in a harsh way. At the same time, they were trying to erode my will and resolve to accomplish my goals. It sounds unfair to put it like that, but it is what it is. Parents are notorious for it, and I try to avoid that pitfall whenever I can.

OrganicMeat(2.0)

What their doing isn't warranted in the slightest, they're mutilating both the mind and the body of people just because they don't like how certain things are run by a computer system.

Illue

I will say that it irritated me somewhat when Kessiah said that Daniel is just some kid from a backwater planet, like cmon. It came off to me as her ignoring what he’s been through and pushing it off as something “he didn’t have to do” and shrugging off his resolve. Who else could have done what he has? He clearly has the power and resolve to set things right, or at least move in that direction. I know that Kessiah’s coming from the pov of a friend just trying to alleviate Daniel’s burden, but that burden is something he’s already resolved to carry and saying that “its not your responsibility” seems pretty insensitive and puts underfoot all the struggles he’s been through to get here. It’s probably not that deep, just thought I’d share my thoughts

Blake Richardson

Thanks for the chapter

Monsoon117

The schema runes are on the outside, but cipheric runes are on the inside. This is also a very high-level medical facility, the highest in the empire, and the cipheric runes are weaved to appear normal. I had no clue where to make any of that fit without ruining the pacing lol.

Chance Rose

Awesome chapter man, looking forward to seeing how this whole fight goes down and if they can save Helios. Maybe Daniel can save Victoria by giving her a new core mind... Go straight evil scientist. Mwahahah

Matthew T

Great chapter as always, I have one concern though. Is the whole hospital enchanted in the cipher, or in schemas version? When the cipher was introduced just knowing it exists resulted in harsh punishments from Schema, and now it seems to be completely mundane.

Monsoon117

Thanks for the help and fixed.

Zachary Smith

Man Elysium is so so bad! How can they think they’re doing good? Ugh. Great writing monsoon

William Christie

It’s depressing to see so many amazing characters being killed and turned into abominations, but at least it was done incredibly well! Super excited to see how easily Daniel defeats his enemies while possibly trying to be kind to their corpses.

Shin

Far worse honestly Schema has a hard-wired bottomline he cant cross Elysium is going up and down that scale by far wherever necessary

Joshua Little

Fair enough I assumed it was permanent permanent but I just enjoy spitballing ideas and trying to find solutions.

Charles handgis

I’m definitely chomping at the bit to watch Daniel squash elysium now. I liked the albony royals.

Monsoon117

It's slightly different than what you're thinking, which is why it's so permanent. The next chapter will elaborate on that.

Alex R

It molded away from the void ice and helios. -> Helios

Joshua Little

I imagine cypher was used to change Victoira like Helios has. Don't see why she can't be saved with a like cypher of I reject your reality and insert my own.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Areshan

I swear helios is more competent than the rest if his entire race lol, no wonder he's was such an arrogant clod when he was introduced, he would have been the only "survivor" had Daniel not saved obolis

crusty pickle

Sad that literally everyone but Helios died, but it definitely puts into perspective the stakes at play, and it's beginning to feel game of thrones Esq where no one is safe

Crimsonbecca

Danial feels so much more alien now like old one level vibes, the lottery has changed him deeply I like it. Out of interest I would love to see his status from other people view point... like boy it would be a massive warning from schema

Bob

Loved it. Is this the part where the psychics who are left realize Daniel's there and say 'sorry, our bad. We're leaving!'

Illue

An awesome chapter to be sure, if rather horrifying. The extent Elysium is going through is insane, and Tohtella tried to play innocent, please. They’re anger and want for revenge is warranted for how Schema’s system is ran and how he’s treated those that go against him, but they’re no different than Schema, worse in some ways. Corrupting entire worlds, changing people into nothing more than hybridized shells, I feel very little sympathy for them

rizen

Yeah this is fucked. Daniel should just glass Elysium planets on principle here. But he already let them go. Guess the ultimatum is one way, his hands aren't tied if Elysium doesn't attack his worlds or systems. He just said he would guarantee it if they do.

Monsoon117

This was an interesting chapter to write. It was more like a mystery than anything else, and it also had some character-building bits in it. Either way, I hope you all enjoyed, and let me know what you think about it.
