Yo, Monsoon baby, I hope covid didn’t smash you. But come on, let’s get this story finished up! (Unless you’re in jail or editing your 2nd book for publishing 😅)

Joe Websten

im done paying, ill just set an alert for 24 months from now and catch up on the 3 chapters that come out.

Charles handgis

Hope you are doing all right man, we are all waiting for that sweet sweet fix.

Code Reed

The human brain like to have problem to chew on. Most people have 'problem slots' some have more, some have less. The brain gets comfortable with it's problems. To the point where, it can make you anxious to actually address them. That's the root of procrastination. If you fix a problem, and don't decide what the next one is, your brain will decide for you. Whether that be a crappy sleep schedule, doing the laundry, or doing your taxes. The only real counter to this is to know about it, be mindful, and be proactive in what problems you want to tackle, otherwise you might be stuck with a really dumb one, like having to find a reason to get up in the morning.

Sébastien Kingsbury

Personally, I'd rather authors be upfront especially on something like patreon where you are paying monthly subscriptions. Look at pirateaba, they needed to take a month off so they made a post saying so and paused billing for that month. Some people still get upset, but you'll always have a few and at least that's transparent

Scott Rutherford

We are all hooked, we just want our 'fix' on a more consistent basis :) I think I said before I could work with a twice a month dose of our favorite story here.

BigBukbBubs

Ah, glad to see you, welcome to narcotics anonymous, we have cookies edit:mb, came from a jaded place in my heart, love you monsoon, love the story too, just wish there was more communication with the community, hope to see you this month, if not, then see you when we see you (^|^)

drag0nreb0rn

It happened again. The annual no word no update hiatus....... Blah blah..nothing felt right..blah.. dark place.... Yada Yada I'm sorry guys....I was on a roll but the pressure of doing well caused me to.....blah blah... (DROP A CHAPTER).....another month long hiatus without word..........blah. Happens every year, honestly I'm surprised it took so long to happen this time...but will Monsoon suspend payment like some authors do when this happens....no. He will suckle from teet of Patreon without content or Comment. Will I continue to pay...yes the story is damn good.

Diophantine

I've read similar stories to this in terms of power progression. When compared to one like Infinite Mana in the Apocalypse, this story keeps a much more even pace. In that other story, the MC gets so overpowered, that his level of power doesn't even make sense in the context of the known universe. At that point, it ends up feeling like there will be no end, making it feel aimless. This story however fares far better, keeping an even progression without going too crazy. I'm amazed this story is still going after so many years.

Scott Rutherford

It is what it is, at least the story keeps on going, even if there is the occasional break. I'd say this is one of my top two or top three stories, and has been since I started reading it. I compare a lot of other stories to this one in terms of unique characters with personalities, game system skills and power progression (the rpg stuff) and the way the MC can grow stronger while still finding reasonable challenges with his new powers being unrestrained. I read another story once where the MC struggled and reached a planetary level of power, fighting deities in orbit over the world he'd been on.. only to get injured after or during the fight and 'reset' to town adventurer levels of power as he healed. I was like, nah... not doing this again, and dropped the story. It's like in certain anime.. characters can lift mountains and blow up moons in an epic battle... but after a break they struggle to life a car or blast a robot. I hate inconsistent power levels. This story keeps climbing up and doesn't turn back.

Lukasz Podgorski

Do you mean the comment about fixing his sleep schedule? I assumed he'll be doing that while working on chapters. Also even if other people do it, that doesn't make it right.

Diophantine

Monsoon isn’t the odd one out when it comes to this. During a hiatus most authors practically drop off the face of the Earth. At least Monsoon let us know what was going on ahead of time.

Lukasz Podgorski

The issue isn't the breaks, everyone needs one from time to time. It's the lack of communication during said breaks

Idan tal

Do that, as this writer take loooong breaks when he needs them. He always come back with great chapters but after 4 years with him I’m usually joining back when there is a pile of chapters and leave when he take a break till the next time.

Scott Rutherford

True... I just find it hard to pay any amount for a month if nothing is posted an entire month. Even two chapters a month would be totally fine. If an entire month goes by with nothing I just feel like cutting free and returning later.

Diophantine

Every author I’ve followed has had their down times. They need some space to figure things out sometimes.

Rocky

So when he said he's going to kill the rest of this month did he mean not do a thing

Shane Fletcher

looks like I'm going to unsub and come back when he starts writing more. hopefully it wont be months of waiting. peace out.

Scott Rutherford

Staring intently... minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, week after week.. o.O

Wrath

We lost are man it seems, my boys. He might have gotten writers burn out.

MAY 9TH

BigBukbBubs

Load the earlier comments, we must let him cook

Hal

I'm pretty sure its just a misspelling. I think its supposed to be goggled. Easy typo and not a well known word.

Shane Fletcher

did monsoon fall off a bridge or something?

Scott Rutherford

Huh, interesting... still though, reminds me of another story where the author used an alternative meaning to a word that has in modern times come to be the name for a medical tool used to dilate body orifices to allow inspection. I recognized it as said tool more so than its less common meaning. Seems to be unavoidable that one may get terms mixed up on occasion.

Anon_Anon

It's the 2nd definition on a ton of sites:https://www.dictionary.com/browse/ogle or https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ogle

Scott Rutherford

I don't see such an alternative when I do a Google search on the world 'ogle'.

Anon_Anon

He's using the second definition right now: to look at especially with greedy or interested attention.

Scott Rutherford

It just felt like the wrong word.. I did a Google search for the word 'ogled' and it came back with: stare at in a lecherous manner. example: he was ogling her breasts I don't think that was what he was doing when he looked at the area where his golem was. Even though 'ogle' is supposed to be a synonym for stare.. just feels off to me. Original text: ''I ogled where it once stood, stunned by how it handled things I'd forgotten.'' Words that feel better as a synonym for stared might be: gazed or observed. Just a thought. This is one of those oddball things I notice as I read. I hope there is no offense. Its the same oddball focus on phrasing that makes me love all the skill descriptions :) I look forward to more.

Monsoon117

I fixed this. The elders did say that at the end of the chapter in the first iteration.

Monsoon117

It's also the crushing forces. It's like putting a water balloon inside of a tank. Even moving alone will pop it.

BigBukbBubs

Having been here for a while, I just wanted to say that my heart has been over the moon since the start of the new year, this has been one of my favorite stories since 2016, so to be able to keep reading has been an absolute joy, thank you Monsoon, for all of it :^)

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Wrath

Thanks for the chapter and for making my day.

Ashrothe

That wasn't the elders...

Scott Rutherford

Perhaps the idea of a 'wearable' intelligent powerful golem as a a type of armor is too MCU Iron Man :P Its been done. :)

Scott Rutherford

OK that all makes sense. So he has a basic shell without even the 3-laws operating system :-P "One of us!" :) lol I was just imagining a 'mech-suit' in this case as a golem with a hole inside for a person. The golem could act as transport, armor and companion to the 'pilot' guild member. I wasn't suggesting Daniel actually make a tech based mobile armor of any kind. Perhaps if the person could bond with the golem as both armor and friend, maybe wearing it would augment their own personal abilities to an insane level.. like a piece of intelligent semi-autonomous equipment. I suppose the golems Daniel makes right now are just too powerful compared to an average guild member for a golem to be turned into bonded-equipment. In this case it is the guild member who can't measure up. Like putting a toddler inside a late model Iron Man suit.

Michael Moore

Very tru, but I was just confused as to why he nitpicked the eltari thing when you pretty much quoted a line from kung fu panda

Monsoon117

I forgot to answer the original question, lol. He has to charge and implant the cipher onto each golem, ensure they operate correctly, and give them quintessant eyes.

Monsoon117

Kung fu panda has a relatively wide range of cultures it explores across the three movies, so there's a lot to draw the comparison from.

Monsoon117

The mech suits would be more difficult to make, and the golems will learn overtime, though they have limits.

Monsoon117

Good point. I can fix that up real quick.

William Christie

Loved the chapter! Just a suggestion I really don’t feel like the elders would use the word “eldritchfied” maybe “corrupted”, “infested”, or “consumed”? I don’t know, it just didn’t feel right. Thanks for the chapter though! Always so enjoyable! It makes my day

Scott Rutherford

So what's left on his golem army? Adding the power source and turning the lights on? If these are to work with a guild member, why not simply make them power armor or basically a mech suit? Will the mind inside grow to be more full grown as the bonding and time increase with the guild member? Growing like a child's mind into an adult one as it gains experience?

Michael Moore

Dunno how you landed on the eltari culture idea

Michael Moore

“Always remember that today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.”I just immediately thought of master oogway after reading that line.

Conor McGroarty

Which part is the reference? The Eltari culture and design for their dwellings?

Mimic

good Chappie boss. one nitpick tho, I don't think the elder eltari would say 'eldrichified' y'know? maybe something like 'he's had the shadow since birth'

Justin Drake

Michael Moore

Nice Kung fu panda reference

Monsoon117

For some reason, I've felt a bit demotivated since the start of April. I pushed past it, but it still bothered me. After a bit of self-reflection, I figured out what it was. I'd lost my goal. I wanted to focus on having a month of uninterrupted releases, something I hadn't done in a long time. I accomplished that mid-April, and I felt a beaming pride in the accomplishment. However, I experienced the standard lull associated after a goal's accomplishment. To fix it, I started another goal of getting my sleep and other routines set to a fine edge. They aren't insanely out of whack or anything, but I want them polished. Normally, that would be difficult. However, work isn't a desperate struggle anymore. There's a void in effort from the endeavor, and that's a strange feeling. I found myself slipping on my schedules, and I think it was a subconscious attempt to make work more consuming. It's like I want a struggle, but I couldn't find one. Imo, I passively attempted to create a struggle where there isn't one. Self-regression, in general, is a powerful tool, one that can be necessary when overreaching. It can also create self-imposed limitations. Instead of doing that, I'd rather take on more to fill the void and not handle what I do less efficiently. Regardless, I'm aiming to kill the rest of this month. Hope you guys will too.
