Nakkus

He better make Tera's freedom a gift... Thanks for the chapter!

EvilGodAsura

Also again it's only a *Extremely* small detail and It's really not worth being upset over. It's literally just the way Daniel blames Schema that's it. The anger and whole treaty thing you have planned sounds amazing and 100% fine. It's literally the difference between " Schema chose not to help us" and "It makes no sense that schema can't help us and now we are put in this situation". It's literally just wording. Not the direction of your story.

EvilGodAsura

As always no harm meant. My issue is not the mystery. My issue is Daniel not thinking there is a mystery to begin with. He's assuming the worst of schema without knowing the full story. Logically it makes no sense for schema to have done what's its done and It just bothers me Daniel can't see that as maybe not schema fault but it's programming.

Steven Vollmert

Now the big question is, was I even close to right with my assumptions? :D Anyway, we all know you can do good twists and schocking reveals so I will be patiently awaiting them. (Maybe not so patient, but definitly waiting!)

Monsoon117

I have a reason why Schema isn't helping. It's not an oversight, it's a mystery element of the story. I understand you're passionate about the New World, but you've placed dozens of comments recently snapping at the direction I'm taking my story as if this was a mistake. It's intentional, and yes, I get it, you don't like that Schema hasn't explained itself or that Daniel doesn't know why he is doing what he's doing. It's a mystery. It's really that simple. I'm not going to spoil it, so please, show some patience and give me time to develop it.

Monsoon117

At this point, understand I have a reason for Schema's actions. Daniel isn't throwing Schema under the bus and saying he doesn't want to work with him. Daniel's salty that his guild got zero support during the conflict with Elysium. Daniel not showing tons of compassion for the AI isn't a hug echaracter flaw either, and Daniel also doesn't know what Schema's doing. There's forshadowing I'm placing in, but you have to offer me some patience. If I explained everything immdiately like a wiki, it wouldn't be a story.

EvilGodAsura

Maybe. Hopefully that's a gain of all this new processing power.

Steven Vollmert

Well, maybe he now will think about it. I mean, how long did it take him to realize he didn't get a quest, or more accurate realize how unusual that is. Up until now Daniel always had to think about how to survive the next crisis so maybe he can now focus on different aspects

EvilGodAsura

So far. If you count Daniel as part of the legion it wins hands down because he can't die as far as we know. If not then it loses.

EvilGodAsura

Now if we can think of all that. Why can't Daniel?

Steven Vollmert

I think there is something bigger here at play. We now know that there are people eho are capable of fiddling with the system. In giess Daniels system was invaded via a bug. We know that you can also hack into the system, as Amara does. So it wouldn't be far fetched if someone tried to mess with Daniel and Schema as he is the only known entity to fight Elysiums golden boy up till now. We also know that old ones can mess with you, and propably also with the system. When Daniel was fighting Yawm he got a parasitic entity placed on him by an old one. Yawm also had one on him, if I remember correctly. Daniel also got a lot of his chypheric knowledge directly from an old one. So it is safe to say that they are masters of it themselfes. For the amount of times Old ones have meddled with Daniel, they habe been very quiet recently. So I suspect that one of the 3 "superpowers" are responsible for the lack of quest and communication. (Schema himself/ the system, Elysium or an Old one)

Steven Vollmert

The only problem here is, do you Want to take everything away from Daniel? Because if you don't kill him and we are assuming they can't, then he will seek revenge. And even thoigh you may be able to avoid him, your planets and the infrastructure on them can't. And if he offers the people you have enslaved freedom, the likeliehood of rebellions also rises dramatically. And Daniel now has an in with Elysium, who have a lot of information on the empire and who also want to see them gone. Also I think Daniel would go under tje rule of Elysium if it meant protecting his guild amd friends. So the guild may loose to the empire, but the empire would loose to Daniel. (Also can't forget his gf who could quite literally kill every important official except maybe obolis without being noticed with her stealth)

Matthew T

In before "its not for sale, I'll give it to you as a token of friendship" or something along those lines.

EvilGodAsura

Just to summarize because I hate being antagonistic but I really want the point across. If Schema made a direct decision to not help Daniel then the only way that makes sense is if the part where it predicts his future potential as a lesser old one jailer is removed. As I can't be convinced otherwise that schema did not value him enough at this time to help him. And if schema was unable to help him because of its programming and its doing all it can to circumvent its coding to help him as a machine Daniel should be smart enough to realize it makes zero sense to abandon him with everything he knows and that schema is probably unable to help him. Again no harm ment I just can't stand a logical error.

Titaniumtac

Empire. He knows daniels home world and can exploit that. Obolis has better logistics, just with himself and Helios able to warp around and avoid him, could take everything away from Daniel.

Blake Richardson

Thanks for the chapter

joseph mcgowan

Especially once his cipher ability doubles, he learns warping, and he has a 10k strong army of super golems. And with his new mind power his learning capabilitys just multiplied drastically.

joseph mcgowan

If the legion can hold long enough Daniel can grow enough to kill obolis and obliterate every powerhouse they have.

Regnal

Bought time his luck stat started paying of lol.

EvilGodAsura

Depends if they have anything that can stop Daniel.

EvilGodAsura

Yes. *Cough*. Luck

EvilGodAsura

I mean I kind of get it though. He sees it as his skin. It's one with his soul. How comfortable would you be dramatically shaping your skin to appeal to those around you? I would imagine having it on feels just as safe as having your own skin on feels. Though I advise against testing it.

EvilGodAsura

Again feel free to ignore me I just feel guilty if I don't tell people I care about what I'm really thinking. As this story means a huge amount to me as already one of my all time favorites and I've read most of the most popular wuxia and a good amount of the royalroad style stories. ❤

EvilGodAsura

Sorry in advance it turns out this has been rolling around for awhile. No offense meant at all! If it's an ai with no limits on its thought process then yes I feel it's essentially a living being. But if schema Is in anyway restricted from thinking in certain ways that cause detriment to Daniel I do not think it Is fair for Daniel to blame it as if it does those actions on purpose. Now I can't be sure it's limited but honestly the only way a huge portion of schemas actions make sense other than it being evil is if it literally has no choice but to treat certain people a certain way. As it is I see it as a broken machine like a hammer that occasionally hammers in a nails but also slams one of your toes when your not ready for it. The ones who built it are at fault not schema until it is repaired. Because as I've said it's godlike capabilities does not make it a God as long as its mind is bound. It's just a big machine and Daniel treats it like it's a person purposefully treating him badly even though normal people like us let alone these powerful races all see that schema treating him that way makes zero sense from an investment standpoint. Schema CLEARLY stated it saw him as a potential jailer for lesser old ones yet I seem to be the only one here that sees the weirdness in how schema is acting in comparison to the immense value Daniel holds to even an idiot let alone a "Godlike" ai.(When I say acting I mean his new capabilities to fight off leheision) If I was a normal person let alone Daniel with his many minds I would realize that schema would have to either be an idiot or genuinely incapable of helping me at this point. You cannot convince me schema is still a godlike ai and that it makes any sense for it to abandon Daniel on purpose after it admits its plans for him. I get trying to add impact to the moment but it's either just a machine or it's a godlike ai and in either case I can't find valid reasoning for Daniel to be so upset at it. If it's a broken machine it can't be blamed like you can't blame a person with no arms for not pulling you up a cliff. If it's a godlike ai with free thought then it's choice makes zero sense when it clearly recognized Daniel's value and by this point it should be horrifically obvious that he is not only upset with schema but is immensely useful. Daniel has made little shows of his disappointment in schema over and over that we normal people can see so to the God ai these should be glaring hints that ANY kind of assurance should be sent. Now to end my dumb rant. Sorry for being honest but all this was just rolling around in my head. No harm meant and feel free to ignore me! I'm not saying Daniel should not be upset to be clear. I'm saying if he sees schema as a person and not a broken machine then he should also recognize that schema must be as dumb as a rock and utterly incompetent when it comes to unknowns or even just socializing in general. And should say it as "Schema is of no use right now" rather than "Schema is choosing not to help me right now" . The same way we speak about people with mental disabilities as the inability to socialize even on this basic level is clearly the "ai" equivalent. Again no harm ment don't take anything to heart I just really needed to vent this so I felt no guilt keeping it in.

Shin

How lucky for him that he got a skillbook for primordial mana among his loot ^^

Shin

Giess But close enough i guess...

Regnal

I really hope Daniel starts to seriously learn warping now that he should have the mental capacity for it. He just needs to learn primordial mana, entropy mana, get his sovereign skill, and warping to wrap it all up. He will be unstoppable then.

Faruel

I think it would be a case of the legion bunkering down until the Empire gets sick of wasting time and troops. It would be a different story if Daniel puts the new brainpower to use in learning teleportation because then he will become a serious threat like a long-distance tactical nuke.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Tomisgoofy

Excellent chapter and edit missed those earlier

Lockwood

Reasonably who do you think would win Empire v.s. The Leigon? Vote down below and gimme a reason. (This'll be real awkward if no one votes lol) My vote is Leigon but only with a pure defensive to the point where the Empire gives up. The Empire is too big to do offense.

Lockwood

Ooooooooh boy. This is gonna get MESSY! Somebody bring some popcorn!

Steven Vollmert

Daniel has found confidence and now knows alot of the things Obolis does with his empire. I would be very careful what I say if I'd be Obolis. Can't wait for the next one.

Ferco

I'm a software developer myself, and the way I see it is that you have an (incredibly advanced) AI that's behaving a certain way with some people (giving them quests/rewards) and a different way with others. Being an AI, even if it's a futuristic/SCI-FI one, I would expect it to behave consistently with the same "input parameters". If the "output" is different, then that means that some "reasoning" (for lack of a better word) is happening inside of it that it's causing it to behave differently with Daniel. At this point you get into the tricky part of "can you blaim an AI for its actions?" If it's an AI that decides what types of ADs you see while you're browsing, sure, I'd blame the company/developers behind it, but if it's a super advanced AI that determines the fate of millions of lives, then I "feel" that I can blaim it, and make it accountable for its "decisions". This is an interesting discusion, and a really pertinent one to our era too, when more and more AIs are managing decisions with real life consequences, specially when they grow complex enough for us to be unable to "follow along" their reasons for coming to a specific result.

Kryn

Your on a roll!! Thanks for the chapter!!

Gamertecno

There has been a few points in the story where Daniel comments about how his armor scares people off and stops them from starting a conversation. Outside of his inner circle he is almost always the one to start a conversation. It makes me wonder when he is going to try and gain full mastery of the form of his armor, and whether or not there is still a fragment of Baldag Rhul still in there.

Code Reed

Perhaps. Though I'm not sure that slug fest had enough gravitas for a real end to book 2. I know that probably doesn't make sense seeing how big the actual battle was, and the implications involved, but it was a stalemate in the end. A stalemate will never have the impact of satisfying beat down. Or world changing revolation. Now if the upcoming fight is going to be as amazing as I think it will be, I'll call that the end of book 2 in my head cannon. Or maybe even book 3,and call book twos ending after the Battle over Uh.. Glauss..? I forget the name, the one that almost got glassed.

Monsoon117

Fair points, but even if it's just a glitch in the code or a flaw in Schema's programming, Daniel's guild and the guy himself are suffering for it. He has the right to be disgruntled about it, though he's done what he can to patch things up. There's nothing more to reasonably expect from the guy.

s476

cheerios

EvilGodAsura

Side note I see it as more a machine since it's an ai. I don't see it as something that you can expect to argue or reason with because Machines don't do that unless something triggers it in its code like a specific event allowing for discussion. More simply Machines are not proactive unless programmed to be so expecting it to reach out and explain its inability is pretty much pointless.

EvilGodAsura

Now I've figured out my issue. It's the way Daniel talks about schema. He says Schema did not give him a quest like it made a conscious decision to not help him. But if it's part of what's broken in Schema then would not "Schema can't give us quests" be more accurate? It's not like you can blame the machine for following its programming broken or not. He talks about it like its a being that is purposefully not helping him when as far as anyone knows it's not able to help. Now if it is able to help but chooses not to then we have a real grudge and I would get it. But right now I just can't see the motivation for this grudge until we have solid proof that schema chose not to help when it could have. I'm not saying all hail schema I'm just saying treat it like a person or a machine but it can't be both.

Matthew T

Awesome work, can't wait to see how Danial grows from here. It feels like a transition into Book 3 to me. I'm also glad you're feeling so much better, keep doing what you love!

Sebas Tian

Mr nice guy Daniel can be not so nice. I wonder where this is going xD.

Steven Myers

Nice

Monsoon117

I've been feeling motivated lately. Since I've changed my approach to criticism and stopped some of my anxiety, I have more energy for other things. I'm putting that energy into writing, and hopefully the results of that are apparent. That being said, there can always be mistakes, and I'm always willing to fix them. Also, make sure you read the edit of the last chapter before reading this one. You'll be confused otherwise. I'll actually add that real quick to the beggining of this chapter. Enjoy guys.
