I've had a thought. The old ones are much like people playing a game. They exist outside of the reality of those inside the game yet have great influence over it. They have unknowable and esoteric goals beyond the comprehension of those inside the game, with strange, potentially self-imposed, rules guiding their actions. Much like a challenge runner trying to acomplish some arbitrary goal they set for themselves as a form of entertainment. The lives of these "NPC's" unimportant to the players. They commit acts that many would deem evil yet in the context of a game are common. They have seen the "beginning and the end" multiple times as they've played this game before. The game they play simply entertainment to them. In many ways... we are the old ones when we play games. Abusing 'glitches' and 'exploits' to do what, from the NPC's perspectives, would seem reality warping and monstrous.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it.

I have a very specific idea of exactly what they are, and I'm trying to implement it in a way that's clever. I've actually known what they were since the very start of the novel.

I have to ask now that I think about it. How many old ones are there? Do they exist in a reality or unreality and They're in another dimension from what I understand because they exist outside of time.

Blake Richardson

Thanks for the chapter

Wrath

New fuel for his fire for taking down gods. Our boy will discover ways to kill things that nobody thought possible. Or to unmake them.

Connor Alexander

Holy shit was that a good chapter. Loving how far Daniel is, and the pure show of how far left he has to go.

I thought I was eating good before, and then you bring out the mother of all desserts❤️🙏🏾

I was and still am proud of this chapter. It's a simple chapter really with few characters and moving parts, but it carried a lot of effort. I really gave my all to make it hum, so to speak. Even if I missed the mark, I tried. In many ways, that's what really counts. But yeah, I hope it landed.
