Thankfully, the storm wasn't bad and the streets and sidewalks were cleaned up about an hour after it stopped raining. Branches and bits of palm trees were scattered everywhere. I have a suggestion for you. Do something about Blackrock and Vanguard and all the entities the 2 control. The odd thing is that Vanguard was supposed to be Blackrock's competitor yet it owns 50% of Blackrock. In return, Blackrock owns 50% of Vanguard. How come no one has kept these 2 in check? A.J. went through a period of burnout last February because he had been so focused on b I idling the channel for 2 or 3 years non-stop. Everyone is worried that he didn't get to recharge very much and has gone back to killing himself to get an episode out every Thursday like in the beginning. They've been able to bring on the new team members in time for this episode so the relief for A.J. doing all the work probably will be more apparent during production for the next video. But a lot of us old-timers just worry that his need for perfection is going to burn him out again and we've become very protective of the gang at the why files. So the lame drama isn't lame if you'd been around when he announced his burn out and need to take a break. Lol, it's very serious business if you don't have much going on at least for me anyways hahaha! Welcome to the community!

It is damned if you do and damned if you don't. I look at promises or messages about a proposed delivery time of videos, software, cars, new cell phones, etc. I look at the time of the release. You can tell me 3 weeks on something I have been promised a deadline to death on everything. I don't set my happiness in life or a schedule based on a promised delivery date. Someone who gets upset over these videos being released late needs to seek a much greater life. Getting upset over delays is just silly. I just appreciate the folks here care about their commitments and promises. The fact it bothers them shows they care about their commitments. I can appreciate that but, I would never hold it against them for being late. I want them to keep doing what they are doing. Late or otherwise.

As I said in the Community post on YouTube, take a break. Reorganize how you do this program. My suggestion, take off the next 3 to 5 months from posting large content like this. Maybe post those little short videos AJ was talking about while you work on these bigger projects during the off time. During the off time, make enough videos to cover your channel for a minimum of three consecutive months, though you might want to try and get to a level to be able to release videos on time for six consecutive months. Once you complete those first blocks of videos, start loading them on YouTube each week on the deadline of Thursday so that you can stay on-point without fail while you take a much needed break before you start filming more for the next block. Doing this will help you, the channel, and your fans out tremendously. TV programming has been making content this way since the 1950s. There's absolutely no reason why a YouTube program like The Why Files can't either. Trust me, we're not going to forget you. Anyway, I hope my advice helps.

ADHD burnout is real. Learning to and finally relinquishing some control of what are tasks and duties essentially born from and still are a large part of you and your reputation, is nerve wracking, requires a high level of self awareness whilst providing open door supervision, and is so incredibly emotionally and psychologically taxing... which takes a physical toll as well. And that ADHD drive for perfection...is taxing. Sometimes, allowing room for change to happen, and engaging the effort to provide the time and space needed by others; so those hard things might gradually become easier; can mean that at some points (from the outside) the most we CAN do may appear to be the least we are doing.. but as stated, what we see is a fraction of what we don't actually see. None of us grow in anything unless we are provided the encouragement and tools to give it a go, And not to just give it a go but to succeed. I have no doubt that the WF team is being lead in a way that is about growing the capacity of each team member to create a robust team where each person is provided the opportunity to learn and develop, not just professionally, but personally. I've not engaged in a channel on this level ...ever; and I am OOOOLD, I've been around here a while now 😅 For the comment replier below somewhere stating AJ gives out tasks and doesn't do much else these past 6 months...take another read of the above and let it sink in. Mental health is no joke.. Being an over achiever is not something that someone just stops for no reason. And "being lazy" just simply isn't possible for someone with adhd and ptsd. We don't just stop for no good reason. Physically it may appear that way. It mentally we are in the 45th lap of a 50 lap marathon and we are working just as hard keeping everything going as anyone else is. It's not always visible to people who might only be 5 laps in. The only thing causing all the upset isn't the delays.. it's that we keep getting told about them. The ups and downs of our own expectations. Maybe as a community we could ask what we can do to help rather than what can we do to be the least help. I feel like many on YT comments are kicking goals on the former. The team is a team. And if half of these people commenting their nasty unhelpful comments were my employees, they'd be out the door so fast. . Bugger it...if I had a boss (and I have had many) who spoke to me and berated me with zero insight into my role.. I would be resigning so fast.. (and I have 😅) There's a bigger picture here. There's a broader screen. And people would do well to take a look at all that rather than just what they can see through thier tiny pin hole view.

Hey Victoria and AJ, I think many of us Patreons agree that the stress of these artificial deadlines is taking a toll. We get that business and sponsors play a role, but it’s important to maintain the quality and well-being of the team. Why not consider a different approach? Maybe an alternating schedule where one week is a dense, highly-produced video and the next week is something lighter or easier to produce. For example, you could continue the compilation vids based on a theme, or even a random "mix" compilation, or a Q&A session. AJ’s brother Geno could also host a “storytime” video, which we all find entertaining. This would provide some breathing room while still delivering consistent content. It’s clear that the current pace is unsustainable, and we don’t want anyone to burn out. We care more about the quality and passion you bring to each video than adhering to a rigid schedule. Missing an ETA occasionally is understandable, but constant updates about delays can feel like excuses and might tarnish the calm, cool on-air persona we all love. We don't always need to see what's inside your spilled purse and the mental anxiety you're going thru. Consider these lighter content options to fill the gaps. We appreciate the transparency, but it’s okay to step back a bit and focus on what you do best without sacrificing health or quality. Hang in there, and please take care of yourselves. I think that the consensus amongst the patreons is that there should not be these artificial deadlines. I realize that the business and sponsors are the driver of some of these deadlines. The issue is we banter about that term without realizing the first syllable. There’s no coming back from dead. So maybe a different tack of an alternating Thursday schedule with some easy or less dense show on the off Thursdays? Something that doesn’t require all the production. Too bad HF won’t do live interviews or Q&As. But maybe once a month he could answer questions? The other off Thursday the team can answer questions. Just an idea. Neither of the Q&As need to be live. They can be recorded. Just a beginning point for discussion. If your video’s lengths are growing by double at this point it is only logical that they take double the production time. Am I right?

I don't really care. The best things arrive late. Just ask Stanley Kubrick and Elon Musk. Personally, I think it would be best if you increased the size of your team, split it up so that one team is working on the current week's episode, and the other is working more slowly, producing a catalogue of unpublished backup episodes. That way if you fall behind on the weekly episode, you can post the oldest, unpublished backup episode that week instead, and buy yourself more time. Just a thought.

As for saying I’m butt hurt, does that follow the community guidelines? I’m disappointed for sure, mostly with replies like this.. The amount of folks clamoring for a better system of how the episodes are released is staggering. And it’s all so we can simply gather together and enjoy the episode together. Call me old fashioned but it reminds me of going over to the friends house to watch the X Files together. These are reasonable, actionable requests.

You need to stop with the deadlines. All it's doing it causing you guys extra hassle. AJ doesn't need to worry about us. None of you do. The vast majority of us will be here when the Patreon email drops into the box, and we'll head over to watch. That's all we need. Do a "Coming Soon" post if that helps, but giving timed deadlines is not helping anyone. Some of the YouTube (non Patreon) people will whine, they always do, but they will still be there when the latest offering hits the site. Look at channels like Nuke's Top 5. It's insanely popular, the posting of new content is all over the place, and some viewers moan. But they are all there when that content they've been craving drops. Try not giving out deadlines for a month. Let the video drop when it's ready. See how it goes as a trial run.

TBH, I don’t care if there’s a release every week or every two weeks. What I dislike is unrealistic updates. Under promise, over deliver. If you think an edit or rewrite is going to take 24hrs. then tell me 48hrs. Build that lead time in. Stop stressing yourself unnecessarily, the fans are going to be here brother. No, it isn’t like saying that all. You assume they will be plagued with initial growing pains throughout the life of the podcast. There’s every reason to think the opposite. Soon everything will not be going at a manic pace bc of the new editing team. They’ll take a big share of the workload off AJ. This will also allow them to catch up soon. Then they’ll be able to record several future podcasts, so they have a safety net. AJ won’t have to burn the candle at both ends anymore. That’ll help as well. He can use his time doing what he is best at. When new team members come on board, it’s takes a little time for everyone to be on the same page (getting to know each other’s working styles , etc), to the point the various stages of the process of creating these podcasts will come together seamlessly (which equals more efficiently, thus at a quicker rate. They grew fast. They needed more infrastructure. They had to move fast to keep the momentum going. They needed some good sponsorship. I’ve tried to give you numerous actual reasons why my metaphor fits. It’s literally what the metaphor means.

It is funny because one of my friends works in AJ studio and he told me, all his employees are required to buy the subscription in patron to post, comment and share the contents of AJ on patron. It is not funny that I see people who say take break AJ when he has been taking this faking break for 6 months. the why files rised to popularity but the fame got into his head and very soon this channel will fall into oblivion.

I love this show, so I don't mind waiting but why give us updates, saying one thing, and then not update us when that doesn't happen. I know the goal was "7ish" but we're almost 4 hours past that. I think it'd just be better to tell us when the video is actually getting uploaded. While I don't support or agree with any of the people spreading angry, hateful messages. There's definitely a loud group of people who love this show and just want to be kept in the loop. I know my family and I would rather have one bigger, for sure episode once every two weeks rather than a put off, chopped video that comes out late and pushes the release of the next video. I just want the team to take care of themselves and take the time they need to put in the effort we've come to expect.

I totally agree. I've never benefitted from a perk, but I pay to demonstrate my support and appreciation in a way that might matter more to the team than a YouTube comment. As for the late videos, they don't bother me at all. But I will admit that every time I see another compilation of videos I've already watched it does disappoint me - but not nearly enough to stop paying for the great quality of the channel. I wish AJ and the team the absolute best.

I think this is what has been done recently with all the compilations. I haven't kept track but I'd say the ratio of new episodes to complications are about 1:1, meaning a new episode about every two weeks. I think when AJ runs out of old videos for compilations the the rate of new releases will naturally go to 2 videos a month. I'm totally happy with that on the same basis as you - better quality videos and hopefully a less stressed team and a happier AJ.

Hey, if you’re happy to donate your money to the Why Files without any expectations, that’s awesome. We’re not the one’s that are over promising when a product will be delivered. This isn’t kickstarter. These are successful people making a very fine business out of these videos. 40-120k per episode and that’s not touching Patreon. It’s the Patreon that’s the problem. They created a monthly subscription based service with perks that aren’t even available. Early access is the first tier. This is the antithesis of early access.

Last week, out of the blue, we lost a vital creator. His expertise is foreign policy and politics, so the fire hose has not let up for several years. He didn't die, but he definitely hit the burnout wall and has been forced by his health to step away from the channel. We're lucky his wife and the rest of his team is able to step in, but it was a shock to all of us, as there was no warning, she had 8 hours to step into the role for 3 to 4 videos a day. The content is always worth the wait. I wouldn't care if it was several days late. I'm a perfectionist as well though (I'm a 3d artist), so I know that feeling of NEEDING to deliver at a certain quality. These videos require a lot of work, so I'd rather wait longer and see them how AJ & Team intended them to be, versus a rushed product. Take your time, make a product you're happy with. I'm sure many will assist to point out anything that seems out of the ordinary and to do so in a positive manner. All anyone can do is their best. Also, I'm not picky about the release time. As an extremely successful producer in the computer games industry I can tell you that making the schedule king is a very bad decision. The objective, within reason, is the best possible product. Striving for perfection is also a bad decision. The best leaders know how to balance the two. So, that we get the best possible product with the time and resources available. The pace needs to be sustainable for you guys and it's better to set expectations that you can meet comfortably for your viewers rather than being over-ambitious and facing a backlash on Youtube eg.
