Accidental Time Travelers | The Mystery and Science of Time Slips
🕑 Added 2024-08-23 20:12:01 +0000 UTCImagine walking down a familiar street when suddenly everything changes. The asphalt beneath your feet transforms into cobblestone, cars vanish, replaced by horse-drawn carriages, and the air fills with the scent of coal smoke and horse manure.
People in Victorian-era clothing hurry past, glancing at you suspiciously. Panic sets in as you realize you're no longer in your own time. Then, just as quickly, you're back in the present day.
You just had a Time Slip, and you're not alone. Thousands of people worldwide have reported experiencing time slips. They briefly travel through time, witnessing scenes from the past or future before returning to the present.
Are these experiences vivid hallucinations, or could they be glimpses into the true nature of time and reality? Today, we cover a few famous Time Slip stories and the scientific theories that might explain them.

Hey AJ, maybe ghost encounters (paranormal activity) are time slips? Just a thought

I recently just discovered The Why Files. I love it! Just the way it is. I am looking forward to more.I have been watching as many as I can to stay caught up! AJ and hecklfish crack me up! So awesome! AJ is a great storyteller!

Loved that one, keep up the good content guys ๐ธ

And FYI, the only consequences of speech should be more speech. The more vile the speech the more it should be protected. And no speech is far from free, it is censored from elementary schools to our highest institutions, it is censored on line and in games. Trying playing word and putting an unpopular word in their, or a FB post about the latest medical advice being wrong. Say something on a college campus against their masses you will be removed. Again you obviously don't get it. Speech is censored all over the world. Thwir is a man In Florida who got put in jail for a meme, but the person who first posted that meme for the opposing party nothing. A black man in Florida just got 10 years because he had a radio show agreeing with rushia in the US, Europe is worse. Free speech means protecting the speech we hate the most. Their words not guns. Consequences are you that foolish. Next step execution. 1 and 2 or free speech and 2 arms to protect our speech, because when speech has consequences society dies.
Kevin Via
Wow, you really have no clue of what I mean!
Dan Johnson
Complains about free speech while speaking freely to an audience of thousandsโฆ smh. Speech is still free... But not necessarily free of consequences.
Dan Johnson
I listened to this episode like a podcast after getting nauseas from the horrible AI. Iโd prefer if you just โKen Burnsโ over a static image that goes along with the story.

Love your evaluations. Keeps me from going too far into the deep end.๐

Love your work A.J. never give up.

Thanks for the reply, it proves without a shadow of doubt that you do read everything which I find admirable. Iโve been watching since the very early days (check out Amazon), and really want AJ to succeed as he seems to me to be a properly true person. Anyway, much love to the production crew, you have a true fan here in the U.K..
Stuart Randall
The depth of research that goes into each story and debunk raises the bar for other channels. That's WF greatest strength. Thank you for listening.
The Why Files
We have a whole video of him already!! https://youtu.be/qppcCh5vuA0?si=1lYD-I3Dd0gY_YQ0 Next one is on Into the Future time slips
The Why Files
It was funnier on paper ;-)
The Why Files
We agree - new editors showing off for AJ - we are calming them down ;-)
The Why Files
We feel that too and have asked the new editors to leave room for imagination - not everything needs an AI scene - they are learning which is a must as AJ needs to focus on writing and recording only - we hear ya'll - promise you!!!
The Why Files
The new editors are in learning mode - give them some time, we are working closely with them and need to to relieve AJ to keep him focused only on writing and recording!!
Colin Birchall
Hey Gary fellow Scouse TWF here ! I often wonder how many people local to me watch this โฆ just got the wife hooked too !
Colin Birchall
Yep we are definitely Scousers ! Derived from a local delicacy called Scouse (a lamb or beef stew). Originally introduced to Liverpool by Norwegian sailors eating Lobscouse.
Colin Birchall
I think I enjoyed this one primarily because it featured Liverpool, where I have lived my whole life. It was fun hearing AJ mention streets Iโve drank in, ate in etc. The mothercare thing is interesting, Iโm not sure if itโs a Mandela effect thing but Iโm pretty sure there was a Mothercare at the top of Bold Street and was there till the early 90s and had been there for a long time ?? Thereโs a local journalist called Tom Slemen who writes about paranormal events in Merseyside (the county in which Liverpool exists) and writes a lot of time slip stories.
Debo
AJ what do you think about this video? When and if you have time of course to take a look, very interesting. Thanks! https://youtu.be/u_xzkJAFtrw?si=TlhKPhYdkyFExqA4
Diana Heineck
Diana Heineck just now "Vortex" allows either the Latin or the regular plural, so both "vortices" and "vortexes" are correct. Although the plural is vortices, either is acceptable and will be understood in any milieu. You are not being a snob. just showing age, perhaps....lol! I use the ces, myself! Time is a Mobius Strip!

the topic was good but the AI was a distraction. Also the French guys and their jokes almost forced me to stop watching the episode. Go back to your old format please.
annonyme
I liked the episode. Topic was great. AI wasnt' always good, but a good way to visualize it. I even think the france people and their jokes were funny, because it was the way i think france humor is (not funny for every one outside of france).
Nick
Hey! Story was cool, the standup bitโฆ not so much Iโd rather hear AJ ramble than that again
Stuart Randall
Sorry AJ, I didn't care much for this one. You are a great storyteller, but the AI pulls in the opposite direction. There is no room for imagination. Reminds me of those old mystery shows with "reconstructed" scenes and awful acting. What drew me to WF was the way you told the stories, drawing the audience in and BAM! Hit us with the debunk. YouTube is full of crappy AI video! Sorry, just my personal opinion. But, I'm afraid you lost me halfway through this one.
Chris Godfrey
Not really keen on this episode, the AI is just not right and the production isnโt good. Whatโs happened? The content was good but not good enough if you stack this against your overall portfolio. Sorry. Hope the next one is better.
Steven Chell
I can't wait until volume 2
Steven Chell
I love the AI stuff it's better then just blank photos
Steven Chell
I love time travel stuff do more videos like this one

Except for the AI stuff, I loved it. Great episode!!!

Iโm chuckling, did anyone like the two French guys?

Mmm I have to admit the AI is really disturbing me. The Victorian man with the dress and little legs near the beginning was particularly creepy.

Great episode, and congratulations on 4 million. We love you all!
Russ Nedyals
Loved it!

Man the AI video is really getting good! I do agree with other commenters, the french guy part was a little strange but it didn't take away from the episode at all. Love it, keep up the good work!
Marcus ร hlstrรถm
Love you channel. To much text to video in this Ep. If you are doing text to video please narrate the voices yourself. This episode was a hard watch. Keep up the good work! It's fine to try new thing in moderation =)
Joe Dellarusso
Loved the content of this week's episode, but it was a hard watch. Too many camera cuts and AI footage. The cuts alone made my head hurt, and the French guys took me out of the story. I hope you can return to a more minimalist approach to the episodes.
Michael Rozmin
I also realized what was really awkward about the French jokesters - uncanny valley. Much of the AI people you are using is disturbing to me and I end up with a negative reaction to that, despite the topic, which I found really fascinating.
Edward Barnes
I have to agree with the sentiment on the Aristocratic humor. Off with their heads! Otherwise enjoyed the show as always!
jason dommer
Time slips are a REALLY fun topic! As always, fantastic episode. Looking forward to volume 2!!
Raul D-D
I truly loved this one! Really refreshing and back to basics
stefangun
Boring, made-up tiny unconnected stories, non-existant humor and I really hate those AI videos. Please don't make Part 2. Where's the vision, the old WF spirit gone that made me love this channel? I'd like to see more episodes like Crop Fields, Vertical Plane, Moon etc. There is so much mystery going on out there atm. What about Nazca Mummy, the Red Dots from the new Space Telescope, roundup of current UFO Whistleblower Activity etc. Some interesting stuff with fact-checking like the good episodes? No one needs another AI ferrytale channel! Please AJ and team, listen to your followers, stop this AI BS and focus on interesting and mysterious stories that contain at least a little bit of fact!
AndreaV
Loved this one! I'm gonna check if there are any timeslip stories about my hometown!
JulieGee
This happened to me once for only a minute or two. I was freaked!
GW
Lol hit the nail on the head. This was a refreshing episode, I really dont care for the episodes of alternate futures/hypotheticals but Ill always watch. Im still always weirded out by watching AI made content.
John Seychel
I would suggest you watch Zeitgeist, 3 movies. It basically covers a lot of what, how and why, the gov is doing behind the scenes. As soon as I watch AJ's Volume one, the first thing I thought is Zeitgeist. Prepare yourself prior to watching. Much of it is how the banks took over. I saw it back around 2008, it's on You Tube.

The story of Harry and the Roman soldiers has been covered in multiple papers and documentary here in the UK.. I myself watched his interview on a documentary in the early 2000 Harry is a man from Yorkshire Yorkshire folk are well known for their straight talking, down to earth personas.. A spade is a spade they tell things as they are.. Harry didn't tell the story because he mentioned it to his local church community who told him to keep it under his hat so to speak. And that's why he hadn't mentioned it... .. Sadly Harry died in 2014.. his passing was mentioned again with roman soldier sighting in national newspapers ..at the end of the documentary I watched. An expert asked what he thought had happened he reckoned that places sometimes hold a recording of events like a video does and that some people are more sensitive and can see that recording.. . The documentary I saw is called ghost hunters and is on you tube check it out if you are interested.. See Harry talk about his experience I for one believed him
Jonathan Carter
Really enjoyed the subject, felt like old Why Files but the AI French Aristocrats was just plain bad.

Janet. Sorry you don't seem to be there. Maybe next time as you might have joined too late to be added to this one. x

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all the hard work you and your team put into your videos. They're entertaining, informative, and have made me feel better about some of my own thoughts and experiences. About this episode, as someone who works with A.I. and computers, I get how time-consuming the whole process can be. This is just my take, but sometimes it feels like the channel leans a bit too much on A.I., and it might help to dial it back a little, especially in this video. I felt a bit of that "uncanny valley" vibe, but that could just be because I spend so much time working with A.I. That said, this is just my opinion, and I could be way off. Keep doing what you're doing! Iโve got nothing but love for you all.
Janet Thomson
Really enjoyed this one. Other than the French dudes chatting. Not funny monsieur!

I had to go through my TVs browser to Patreon and logging in there, but it tells me from time to time that my password isn't right, even though I know it's correct. I usually wait until it's on YouTube. Getting on the AMA through Discord won't let me play sound, nor will it let me listen on my phone at the same time.

Thanks for the episode. I am interested in quantum physics and here's an interesting article on why the observer effect happens for the double slit experiment. It still feels like WF. The jokes put in the first bit felt force. Hecklefish's new hat look more effective tho! The b roll style clips felt good. All in all great episode. Appreciate all the work and the struggle to bring great content.

So happy (and actually proud) that this was the first episode with my name listed at the end now I'm a subscriber. Such a good watch and I cannot wait for part two. So many part two's are now due on topics I love it's really exciting!! AJ and Hecklefish forever!

Nice episode, I don t know if this is a thing but I recall when I was a kid, about 7-9 years old, my family went to visit my grandgrandmother and grandgranduncle. She was 105 and he was 95. I had fascination with my grandgranduncle, he was a strong country man, very poor but such a giving person. He took care of her sister and they lived in a small mud cottage house in corrientes, argentina. I remember I ve never seen such black skies as in the country nights about 40 years ago. The cottage was several kilometers of a small town called 9 de julio so it was a very solitary place full of myths. They believed in ghosts that sometimes could be seen above the wheat fields, there was a small lake where in moonnight some people reported seeing two black folks that danced over the water where they drawn a hundred years ago, they also believed in werewolfs but the tale is different in my country, they are called lobizontes and sometimes they are reported to be werepigs more than werewolves. I remember one afternoon my grandgranduncle and me where walking in the fields and we pass through an old abandoned well in the monte (monte is not a mountain but more like a very small flat low high mountain with specific flora)... we walked a lot and I recognized we passed 2 times the same well like we were walking in circles but we weren t. I ve noticed my grandgranduncle was very serious and very alert looking straight but to the sides at the same time. He was a very muscular old man and I could feel the tension in his body like he was about to start running at any time. I asked about the well because I thought he was lost and he whispered not to worry about that, that THEY were trying to trick us into going through the mount but if we continue walking straight THEY would lose interest and let us move on. To me it was like one of those old pasta records that kept repeating because of a scratch that moved the needle to the same old position in a loop. We kept walking and finally arrived several hours later. My mom asked were we went and I told her about the well. She said that was about half an hour but then went silent and nobody talk about this again. I know superstition can create illusions but I wasn t supersitious until that day. Never saw anything that strange again but I felt the same feeling many times in my life, like the feeling of jumping through time. Anyway, it s probably my vivid imagination but wanted to share the story because basically that is what made me who I am today. I do not believe everything I see or read but I do not unbelieve it either. I do not know the power of the human mind to express into reality the world of fantasy but I ve seen as everybody in this world it is possible to create cities, travel in planes and go to space thanks of the people that decided to translate their vivid imagination into reality so who knows what else can our minds do if we believe strong enough in the power of our imagination. Maybe we can move through time and who knows, through space as well ? :D Like a technomancer said in Babylon 5 (my favorite TV series) in a dialog with the commander sheridan: sheridan: "I do think there are some things we don't understand. If we'd be back in time a thousand years, trying to explain this place to people, they could only accept it in terms of magic." technomancer: "Then perhaps it is magic. The magic of the human heart, focused and made manifest by technology. Every day you here create greater miracles than a burning bush."

Fantastic episode, this feels like a return to force for AJ and the team. A great classic episode
Annie Andrรฉn
Awesome episod AJ! Would love to see you walk down the streets of Liverpool! :D

I have one friend who, like me, is constantly sharing events of people dying that we knew for certain we'd heard were already dead. For example, Bob Newhart passed recently, according to the common lore. But we both knew for certain that we'd heard tv reports and read the news that he'd already passed years ago. The same thing happened with actor Yul Brynner. And the list goes on. Time slips are real.
Richard Riches
Absolutely loved this one, fascinating subject, not to sure about the ai noblemen trying to be funny though.
Joshua Edgington
I see the TARDIS in the bowl and all I could think throughout the video is โweeping angels are real!โ

About 15 years ago, my S/O and I took a back road into St. Augustine, FL. It was a normal clear and muggy day. As we were driving the world turned sepia as we drove past a general store. There were close to 100 black folks dancing in the parking lot. They all stopped to stare at us, as we starred back trying to figure out what was going on. Then as soon as we pasted, the color returned to the world and we were sitting there asking each other if we had seen that. At first I figured it was a movie shoot, but the way the world turned sepia makes me think it was a time slip. We have been through others as well. The world is not what it seems and our understanding is too limited to understand.

Check out a TV show called 'Goodnight Sweetheart'. It's a timeslip story where the main character, Gary, can repeat the experience and lives a dual life.
Tamarah Hood
Great episode, including debunking. Well worth the subscription and the some. I wear my HF shirt with pride.
Sianna Marie
It was strange for sure. Tbh it was mostly frustrating because it's something I know I'll never have the answer for! But it do go a ways to making me think more about how time works and just the universe in general. It was also such a "non" moment. Just random. I kinda wish it had happened with something more interesting ๐คฃ
Vikki Fairchild
Iโm so excited to watch this. I just noticed it was up while I was working. Havenโt had time to stop and watch yet. Thank you guys!! Canโt wait for tomorrow! See you all there. ๐๐๐

Unfortunately I have got to say that I found the joke telling AI Frenchmen awkward and a bit annoying. I usually donโt find anything that strikes me that way on the WHY Files. I am watching on YouTube and I am just past that part. But it was definitely awkward.

Great episode! Can't say I've had a timeslip, but had some weird sh*t happen when I was younger. Even weirder sh*t lately using the Gateway Experience. Sounds like Einstein might have had some conversations with Buddhist monks, they've been saying reality is an illusion for centuries. Personally, I've always believed that if it can be imagined, it is possible. Looking forward to Vol 2! Peace!

Peter Spier wrote a book titled โLegends of New Amsterdamโ I believe the book is out of print so you may need to get it from the library. There is a story in it about a woman who jumps to the future and is driven mad. She would wander the streets of New Amsterdam crying out the same phrase over and over. No spoilers here. Hope it makes it into volume Ii.

This episode was a miss for me. I like time travel stories but this one just didn't do it for me.

Canโt wait for Part 2! So sad they were mostly all debunked. As a person who has had several time slips into both past & future, I can assure you theyโre real. As least from my perspective. The theories presented helped explain why I have experienced multiple time slips, so thank you!!!

Thanks for the regard. Yes, I never thought the pyramids were tombs but perhaps generators that captured energy from the planet. They are just a huge undertaking for a royal tomb. I heard the science on them, and they are found all around the world. Some people even believe certain mountains in Antarctica are pyramids too, and also found ancient tropical plants and palm tree like fossil's. Which also means Antarctica once was in the tropical zone. During every ice age which I believe is cyclical, release mega tons of water from 3 mile high glaciers, which in turn wipes out large areas of land, and could have wiped out a lot of the pyramids. The glaciers could have also washed pyramids away. In one of the deserted areas a man found finely cut out squares stacked vary high, I saw it on You Tube, forget the name. The pyramids are just too perfect and a task that we can't even figure out how they were or can build today.

I also think the "pyramids as tombs" narrative is completely debunked. Probably Atlanteans built the great pyramid! ? I'm sorry to hear about your boy ๐

Strange, isn't all money dated, how did they pay for food with modern money? I wish it happens to me, I'd love to go to my favorite Greek Restaurant a few blocks from me. They had the best souvloki, I ever had, they also hand made their gyro, which I also miss. The owner's sold it because the kids didn't want to take over. I would also love to see my boy who died in my arms from covid like symptoms. There are energy vortexes all over the world. Strangely enough pyramids are always found direct center of energy vortexes. That brings me to my own question, what happened to the rest of the pyramids? I know the Egyptians did not build the pyramids, they are found everywhere around the world. Perhaps the pyramids balanced out the time vortexes.
Rebecca Metzger

It wasn't anything groundbreaking. At the time I said I saw a man I had never seen before. He was in the room with us but everything was reversed which I didn't understand (until I was in that time a couple years later) what I was actually seeing was me staying at the same resort in Thailand but on the other side where the houses were the same but literally reversed as on opposite sides of the road. The man was my future boyfriend I had never met before (he was from Ireland and I've never been there and he's never been to the UK where I was from at that point.

I had a time slip. Except I wasn't *In* the time. I was seeing it through a mirror while explaining to the person in the room what I was seeing. He was on the other side of the room looking (for an extended period of time) in another full length mirror. He said I was crazy and I didn't really understand what I was seeing or why. Years later what I had seen happened. I took a photo randomly not realising what I was looking at was exactly what I had previously described. Mine is different because I didn't actually move or go anywhere. But I'll never forget it.

I love time slip stories. Great episode, except for the French guys telling "jokes". That was pointless and annoying.

I was in Asia whe. Pepsi launched in China. And the screwed up the slogan. And Pepsi sold out in minutes. They couldn't figure out why a Slogan of the Taste of a new generation was so great in China. So they doubled their ad budget. Eventually the Chinese had to send an official statement out the Pepsi does not bring back ypur ancestors from the dead. Lesson, translations are important!!!
Peter park
Woohoo!! New episode!!
Kevin Via
Ya of course original Coke! From 1901๐

Andy Torres
What French jokes? There hasnt been French jokes in this show for years.
Scott Goodman
Let me clarify. I am more than appreciative of new videos, but they seem to be few and far in between. This was the first show i had ever seen on YouTube, and i have followed religiously for the past almost 4 years. My only frustration is that my weekly happiness as far as a video used to be 1 show per week, and now i seem to be waiting more than watching. But, big but, i will still continue to look for a new episode in the future. Im forever a subscriber, just really needed to say what was on my mind in regards to this show. Love you guys!
Fluffy McTavish
And the Coke...... a-Cola. The drink I mean. Better in the 80s. Am I right?
Bob Jonas

Is it just me, or did the French jokes feel weird and out of place? ๐คจ
Shane R. Monroe
I love the show, but the AI usage is getting ... distracting. Just my .02 - take it or leave it :D
David Lueck

If only I could Time Slip back to the 80s when Free speech was important to all, Racism was almost a thing of the past, and I had a new girl monthly and we all still stayed friends. Oh ya, it was just a blast and people didn't get Married to a Phone, or have them surgically attached to their hand!!!!
