I had the literal exact same thing about a year ago... fucking sucks! However the surgery for the implant post and then the actual new tooth is way easier and much less of a pain. The waiting sucks though! I had to get a bone graft, which wasn't nearly as bad as it sounds.

Thanks Zach! Fun fact, a dentist told me that swishing with Alkaline water before ya brush or after acidic foods/drinks rehardens the enamel and prevents tooth sensitivity and decay too! Just wish I'd known about that in my 30' or 40's. Hope I'm not TMI here... but, I have Epilepsy from a work place accident in 1999, and the meds dry my mouth out... And I'm a mouth breather at night... Lol. 😄 I've had to have All my molars and premolars pulled due to dry mouth (causes decay, and I didn't discover sleeping chin straps soon enough). These last 7 teeth (molars & premolars) were quite Literally killing me with infection and pain. And local anesthesia has never worked for some reason. So it had to be done in the O.R. But, WOW! Those gel ice packs are Amazing! Maybe it will help others who need treatment too? Anything to relieve suffering.

Wow! 😲 ONLY 3 More Times?!?! Oui. I just went through this in an O.R. Exactly 1 week ago. I'm right there with ya rowin that boat. 🥴 I had to use black tea bags (don't like the flavor so got vanilla chai... not bad!). Just moisten them and clamp down. The caffeine in it stops bleeding, if the gauze doesn't work.. Also Amazon has freezable face packs (gel packs with a neoprene cover that velcros on top). The gel packs have Velcro to stay in place. They're Amazing 😍. Since this is involving your sinuses, you may want one with more coverage. But they worked great! Here's the link... REVIX Wisdom Teeth Ice Packs for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1715B7V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Each gel pack only lasts about 20 minutes, but ya get enough of them to always have one frozen. If my wisdom teeth extraction years ago is anything to base this on, you have my sympathies. However, here's a handy tip: The oral surgeon told me that if my face swelled, to put ice on it. It was summer, so I discovered that cold swimming pool water worked just as well. Hunker down in the water with only your nose and eyes above the surface like a human/alligator hybrid, and let the cold water lap your swollen cheeks. Looks idiotic, but it works, and you can hang out with your family while you're supposed to be recuperating. Ask me how I know. ;) Get well soon, AJ!!

I had the tooth surgery thing done last year, just not on an emergency basis. Honestly, it didn't hurt very much, but you may have had something more invasive done. Glad I opted for sedation. My mouth is small and doesn't open very wide while I'm trying to hold it open. They did what they had to do to get in there, and I was none the wiser.

Ah, my old friend dental pain. You have my sympathies AJ. I’ve ended up speaking like that a few times over my 64 years. Here’s a little story to bring as much of a grin to your face as any dental work and anaesthetics will allow. Apologies for the length of the tale. Picture the scene. It’s a Sunday morning in the U.K. in the mid 1980’s. I wake up with tooth pain in a lower jaw molar that quickly becomes quite atrocious. Ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine have as much effect as a fire extinguisher on a lithium fire in an ev battery pack. My wife for some reason calls my father. Not sure why at first ~ he’s great at diy but I’m not letting him near me with any sort of drill. BUT, with the pain impeding my thought processes, I’d forgotten that his dentist lived round the corner. Dad phones him for advice. Brian the dentist says, ‘Bring him to the surgery now. I’ll go and open up.’ This is totally unexpected. They’re not open on a Sunday. But, never look a gift horse in the mouth ehh? So off we go. When we get to the surgery, it was evident that Brian had a fair amount of paint spatter on him. He’d been doing some diy painting at home and hated doing it so much that he was more than happy to open up the surgery to help me. Brian tells my father that he’ll have to act as his dental assistant. Basically this means my father’s in charge of the suction tool. Now, as I’ve already said, Dad’s an absolute whizz at diy and his profession was as an electrical design engineer with Ford U.K. ~ I still have a load of his patents in my filing cabinet. So, a clever guy, really good with his hands and good hand/eye coordination ~ just not, evidently, with a dental suction device, with which he seems intent on removing my tongue. Mustn’t complain. The dental pain is awful. Brian identifies the tooth in question. Several injections follow, then the high speed drill followed by the dentist’s favourite torture device, the slow speed drill. The injections don’t actually seem to be helping as much as they should. He takes a close look inside the offending tooth. ‘Ah, look at this’ he says to my father, ‘This is what happens when the tooth has this much infection. The nerve refuses to be fully neutralised by the anaesthetic. Look, I’ll prove it.’ He sticks the needle right into the root area of my tooth and injects anaesthetic directly into the root canal nerve. This, it has to be said, was quite unpleasant. Pain still not gone but is reduced. He carries out a full root canal procedure. Once the tooth is filled, he says, ‘Ok. How’s that?’ I probe with my tongue. That tooth’s now ok ~ but why is the tooth immediately above it in my upper jaw now giving me the same sort of pain I’d had earlier? ‘Ah. That’s probably just referred pain ~ but let’s just have a look…. Hhmmm…well, David, you must be exceedingly unlucky. Looks like you’ve got a similar problem with that upper molar.’ Wow! Lucky me…… So, TWO root canal fillings carried out by a paint-spattered dentist aided by a man with zero training as a dental assistant. On a Sunday morning. I was exceedingly grateful as dental pain is a real horror. Brian never charged me either. What a great guy. He must have REALLY hated doing diy painting. Like my father, sadly now no longer with us. Thanks to a later incompetent medical procedure, I’ve lived in neuropathic pain for some 33 years now, 24/7/365. When it’s worse than usual, I tell people to imagine that it’s like their worst ever toothache but that they can never see a dentist for treatment. But that’s another story…. I know you’ll pull through AJ. You’re made of strong stuff. You must be, to put up with the damned fish. So don’t worry about us. Just allow us to worry about you.

I had an empyema of the left lung (An abcess) from pneumonia back in 95 and then in 2011, I had a peripheral anuerysm in my lower left leg. Other than a kidney stone about 5 years ago now, I have been in very good health. All my physical issues are lingering ones from going septic in those 2 major incidents. On the plus side, I now get a pneumonia vaccine every 5 years and kept my leg, even if it does have a significant dent between my knee and ankle! Hate to hear anyone else is dealing with pain from infections, as they can become serious very quickly.

Weirdly I “just” found out I am going to need to have my bottom front two teeth extracted and implants to replace them due to reabsorption- which was probably due to some injury that happened to me as a kid (got hit in the mouth with a prop brick backstage at Barnum) . Installing the replacement tooth, while annoying, will be easier than what you just went through ... although don't hold me to that! Interesting that you did an episode about alien implants just ahead of getting prepped for a tooth implant. Make sure your dentist isn't a member of DARPA.

I was in your shoes about 18 months ago. The oral surgeon dug my exploded tooth out in pieces. It was a root canal tooth with a porcelain crown. Take your pain medicine on time today. DO NOT hold off taking it. Do not try to work. Your pain level will go out of control and you will lose more work time by not following instructions. By day two I could manage my pain with over the counter medication but I took a pain pill at bedtime to sleep for the next two days. Your mileage may vary. You may need narcotic pain pills for a longer time. It is important that you allow yourself to sleep or rest for healing purposes. BTW I'm a retired nurse so listen to me.

Yo! I can commiserate brother. I had a tooth growing in my sinus. To get it pulled was an ordeal. Ended up just getting full implants as I was already going through the process. Worked out. Love you man. Chin up. No one, well no one reasonable, cannot understand the situation. Even before the tooth thing. Multi tasking is the teaching of corporate America to make you more productive for them. The sign of a leader and entrepreneur is focus. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Luckily I had an excellent dentist who knew exactly how to deaden the proper areas and how to do the procedures correctly. Once I got the feeling back I had zero pain after each one. So I'm hoping you have the same experience. Hang in there.
