There is one thing you missed out, which for me is the most important aspect of a cult, without that it’s just a group of people doing stuff together and paying money for it. For me a point which often gets forgotten is, are the members worse off by joining or are they better off. Let’s be honest 90% of what we value is purely subjective (probably more than 90%). Is an amusement park really worth what your paying for it really depends on your experience. For me the question of cult or not is manly a question of are they better or worse off with it. If there’s mass suicide through the cult, nobody can argue that they are better off joining. Same goes for religions, some for me are more like cults, because people joining them are not better off joining. So maybe cult or religion is really also a subjective reality which has to be decided on a case by case basis. Some improve by finding religion others read the Bible and use it as a justification to spank their kids

You sound like me and my wife! Her father introduced us to this channel and we didn’t watch it for months. When we visited him when we were still only engaged we watched our first episode and I was hooked. He caught us dancing on the deck to the theme song at night, he heard the music and looked out of his window to tell us we should probably turn it down but when he saw us dancing together he didn’t want to stop us. We danced to it twice that night. We’ve made many lovely memories watching AJ and HF together, her father even bought us WhyFiles merch as wedding gifts. Life changing. In the dream I was watching the coverage of Kennedy’s LA visit which broke away after he left the stage to the talking heads then went back to the scene when there was a ruckus in the kitchen. They flashed back to him on the floor head resting in a campaign hat bleeding but conscious. Of Rosie Greer wrestling Sirhan to the floor. I tried to call the FBI in the morning but I was 12. Not only did nobody believe me but I got read the riot act about making prank calls and threatening politicians. I was a campaign volunteer of his in Baltimore. Go figure
