Someone at Royal Road made a comment about it not making much sense that all cyberware had open nodes connected to the mesh, and thinking about it; I have to agree with them.
It makes much more sense to me that all cyberware transmits data between the neural link and themselves. Then, that data may or may not go to the mesh through the neural link instead of them all sending it independently. Hence, I'll go back and change that.
It will mostly affect small sentences that I'll have to rewrite in combat scenes and such, making it plain that Rei targets their neural link and its ICE to get into their cyberware. Editing so many different chapters still takes some time as I have to find all instances of it being mentioned.
For those reading, just know that nothing will change in the outcome of the story, only the wording used, so there's no need to reread or anything.
It will probably not take long, but I wanted to give the heads-up anyway.

Thanks to your suggestions, I've worked out how to fix it without impacting the story so far other than needing to change a few sentences.
All cyberware is connected to the neural link, but it's mostly the low to mid-range civilian-grade stuff that has nodes connecting directly to the mesh for data collection by corporations. More expensive cybernetics or military-grade cyberware only has split nodes (sNodes) connecting them to the neural link, meaning that they're completely cut off (split) from the public mesh, and the only way to force access is through the connected neural link.
This should cover the corporate greed I've been establishing in the story while also not leaving too many holes for Meshmagi to exploit against people who are more capable.

Looking at it from a cyber security perspective... Well, if it was combat oriented soldier or specialist: yes, I would make sure that all passed through the neural link and ICE the shit out of it. But civilian? Some I would, some I won't? Now look at it from a corporate point of view: I want my product to connect directly to the mesh and to me and not pass through some third party's neural link. Why? Well I don't want to share data with him.

If I can add my two cents. saying it doesn't make any sense is a little... perhaps exaggerated. From a security perspective you might say that. but something near field on each piece would make sense like Bluetooth. future Bluetooth would be stronger faster and wider than current. pace makers, insulin pumps etc are Bluetooth now too. the year 2200+ could have just everything internet connected. and stuff like that makes more sense for the ouppeting that has been described so far. if a spine is severed then the arms legs etcetera shouldn't move no matter the command. but if they were near field available it would. so maybe it would be like that? besides it could also just be corpo only wear that's locked down properly but consumer grade shit is normal. we have wifi enabled ovens for Christ's sake haha.

If there are set words used in those sentences, you can search for them through RR. There is a search function for authors that lets you basically ctrl + f through all the chapters with one search.
