Good point. I certainly don't like to overdo it, but I'll add a bunch if it builds towards the transformation in a good way.

Sometimes a bit of both really. I think some captions work in the moment with bits of exposition mixed in, while others help to give the scene some context. I suppose it all depends on how it's done.
