I love the misdirect with Dawn but I really feel like a lot of people never got over how much they made them not like her at first for the red herring lol That whole scene with the monk where he says "She's innocent. She is human, only human now." and Buffy says "she's not my sister?" and he goes "She doesn't know that." ALWAYS makes me tear up. To Dawn, she's just a 14 year old girl with a slayer sister and she's fighting for attention and being a normal bratty teenager. And from her perspective, Buffy was so mean to her for no reason (hence how much she apologized at the end) and she was so sad about it cause no matter how bratty she is, she actually loves her sister so much and looks up to her. Ugh I just love Dawn so much.
