Chapter 19: The Rebound Guy
I invited my daughter’s boyfriend to a gay orgy.

We were interrupted by the manager who was actually closing the place. No more delays, no more fooling around, we had to go.

She kissed my left cheek, just like Fran.
“Liv, I need to talk to you.”
The words came out of my mouth spontaneously.
It was not even about “doing the right thing”, or any of that crap. I simply could not lie to Olivia anymore. It was driving me too crazy.
Her face changed immediately.
“Wow. What’s happening now?”
It was like I was vomiting the words out of my throat. I wanted to get rid of the secret, as fast as possible.
“The guy you’re seeing, the rebound guy, it’s Eric, right? The one who’s going to my gym? Who’s part of the football team with Blake?”
“Are you going to lecture me about that? Really?”

I was not expecting that.
“What do you think, dad? That he didn’t call me right away when he left?! I saw Eric yesterday night! He could not stop talking about it.”
“Good God! I had told him not to say anything, I wanted to explain myself first! This was just a misunderstanding, a stupid mistake, Liv, I promise…”
She cut me off.
“Dad! Chill! Damn, I didn’t know you were so afraid of my reactions. I admit, this is quite crazy that my new boyfriend got to see you naked… as well! But frankly, when Eric told me about it, it was just funny.”
I was so relieved.
“Liv, you have no idea! I feel so silly. I own up to my wrongs, I shouldn’t never have been fooling around with other men in the sauna… That was just dumb!”
“Fooling around… Right. Just that, eh? Jesus, my father is such a sex freak.”
“I know! What the fuck is wrong with me?”
She laughed again.
“I’ve told you, and I was sincere, I had always known you were seeing guys on the side, and I never cared. Just… Stay away from my boyfriends!”
I held her in my arms.
“Liv! I’ve been staying the fuck away from Blake as much as I could. I promise.”
“Dad. Relax!”
“Okay…”
She was a bit more serious.
“Listen, I’m not saying that I forgive you for what happened last summer, but I have reacted the worst way possible. It’s because of me that you’re living in Sacramento… You did a very bad thing and I did a very bad thing in response. But I don’t intend to hold a grudge against you for years. What would be the point?”
“You’re so… so much like your mother. You’re so much better and mature than I could ever be.”
“You raised me, dad. By yourself, once mom was gone. A lot of what I am comes from you, I don’t forget that either.”
She could not have said a more beautiful thing.
She really was the perfect daughter.

“So, you’re not mad about Eric?”
“He was mortified but we laughed about it. I did tell him about your history with Blake, last night. Since he was telling me about the sauna, I couldn’t keep the rest of the story for myself.”
I nodded.
“That’s fair. I understand. How did he react?”
“He was shook!”
“I bet…”
In the most surprising way, this lunch was the first time since I had discovered that Olivia was the one burning down the farm that we were having a genuine conversation.
Weirdly, it was like we could tell each other everything. Much more than before actually.
I would not go as far as saying that fucking her long-time boyfriend had been a blessing in disguise, - there was still a deep scar between us, one which would probably never go away -, but it was no longer an open wound.
We were building a different kind of relationship.
I was more opened about my sexuality, and she was clearer about what she was expecting from her father.
That was exactly what I needed, to know what she wanted so I could be there for her.
One thing I did not tell her was that the insurance people were bugging me about not lodging a formal complaint and pressing charges about the fire.
They were challenging part of the insurance funds on that merit but obviously, I could not push for an investigation when I knew that my daughter had committed the crime.
Anyway, I would deal with that later. Money was the least of my concerns.
Aside from this concern and the tasteless food, the lunch was a great time.
“By the way, you did call Eric your boyfriend earlier. I thought he was just a rebound guy?” I asked.
She grinned.
“Why? You’re only interested in him if we’re actually together?”
She dared a joke about the whole thing.
We were definitely getting to a better place.
“Touché… No, I’m serious. Are you catching feelings?”
I did not add that I thought he was looking good myself because that would have clearly been inappropriate given the context.
She shrugged her shoulders.
“Maybe. I think he’s been wanting to be with me for quite a long time but… As you’re aware, I was taken by someone else. He was too, stuck in a bad relationship. I guess we met again at the right time, and since then, yeah, it’s been going great.”
I smiled to my ears and held her hands.
“You cannot begin to imagine how happy I am to hear that.”
“Relax, dad. I’m still very much on the idea that I don’t need a man to live my life. We’ll see how it goes.”
“See… You’re so smart. My all-grown independent daughter.”
“What about you? Maybe you should try to find yourself a boyfriend as well…”
“You sound exactly like Fran. I am seeing someone regularly actually. His name is Sergio but I don’t think this is too serious. I’m trying to enjoy the city while I’m here but I cannot wait to be back on the farm.”
“Sergio… Maybe I should meet him.”
“He’s the bartender of the jazz club Lova Lova is performing at.”
“And what about Blake?”
I was startled but I tried to be honest.
“Blake? You know that I’ve been keeping my distance.”
“I told you that you were free to go after him if this was what you really wanted.”
“I know it would hurt you.”
She looked confused.
“Wait… It’s because of me? I’m the reason you’re not with him? Still?”
“It’s more complicated than that, but yes, I did cut ties with Blake because of you, for you. Of course, I acted too late, but in my defence, this decision was made even before I discovered that you knew. It was wrong, from the start.”
It was her turn to hold my hand.
“Dad… Were you into him? Like, really into him?”
Jesus Christ, a tear fell off from my eyes. What was I turning into?
I was really losing control on my emotions lately.
I looked away, but obviously, Olivia could tell that I was tearing up.
“Dad. You’re in love with him?” She insisted.
Her voice had changed, it cracked a little.
“Please, Liv. Let’s no go there.”
“Damn, I cannot believe that you’re gonna make me feel bad about this! You’re actually in love with him.”
“What? Why would you feel bad?”
“Because I’m the mean one in this scenario, preventing you from being happy.”
“No! Don’t say that. First of all, you didn’t ask me for anything. Second of all, you don’t have to feel guilty about this. I know what I’ve done and I know I’m the only one responsible for this situation.”
“You and Blake… I dodged the bullet of spending my life with him, but I’m serious, you can do whatever you want. Maybe you two are the real love story after all.”
The real love story? What an odd way to see things.
Was she serious?
It was not the first time that Olivia was giving me her blessing to go after Blake but it was the first time when I felt like she meant it.
“He’s already with somebody else anyway.” I settled.
She smirked.
“Typical, I guess. Once a cheater, always a cheater…”
We cheered to that, because, why not?
Maybe I had dodged a bullet myself.
I was still hooked on the boy when I had been with him for only a few weeks, could you imagine how crazy I would have become if this had lasted longer than this?
On these wise words, we ate our desert and Olivia told me about a potential job waiting for her in Canada.
It had been a breath of fresh air to see her doing so well.
I came back to the castle with a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.
Unfortunately, it did not look like I could have a break in this life…
Once I had dealt with a situation, a new one was landing on my laps right away!
I parked in the courtyard and someone ran towards me.
Not anyone.
It was Blake.
What the fuck was he doing there?
My heart started beating fast in my chest as soon as I recognised him.
As usual, he was looking gorgeous. He was wearing a lumberjack top that I had never seen on him. Winter was coming. He had a serious look on his face though. Very unlike him.
I got out my van, rather confused.
“Why are you here, Blakey?”

Or did I?

A love declaration was not what I got.
At all.
“Thank God, you’re here, Joe. I came because Zaid called me. He was panicking, Fran was not doing well.”
“What… What happened?”
“She lost consciousness while she was with him. Joe, this is very serious. I came here because Zaid was freaking out but he had already called an ambulance and when I arrived, they both went. It was just a couple minutes ago, you missed them.”
“Oh no…”
“Joe, the med team did not look confident… She was barely breathing.”
“Fuck!” I yelled.
I kicked a small rock on the ground.
Blake held me in his arms and there, I broke down.
I cried against his shoulder, like a kid.
So much for a “Big Farmer Daddy”, right?
“I’m sorry about that, Joe.”
“Jesus Fucking Christ, I saw her this morning, she was not doing well… I should have…”
He wiped the tears out of my face, and out of nowhere, Blake kissed me on the lips.
I was not sure what it meant. Probably nothing. It was just a small peck, nothing sensual.
Still. It was a kiss.
I hugged him once again. I needed to feel his body against mine, to smell his reassuring scent.
It was awful but I could not have hoped for anyone better to give me that difficult news.
“Let’s go to the hospital.” He spoke calmly.
“Yes… Yes, you’re right.”
“I’ll drive, I know you were very close to Fran, we’ll go together.”
“Thank you. Really, Blakey. Thanks.”
I did not let go of his thigh for the entire ride to the hospital.
I had no idea if this was changing anything between us. In that moment, I just needed Blake by my side.

Well, sorry my comments are so late. I hated this chapter, and I also loved it. I was getting pretty tired of Joe being a man whore. Asking Erick to come to join the orgy, that was the last straw for me with Joe. But the story changed drastically. I think Erick telling Liv just shows his commitment to her. But I’m also happy Liv has found her own independence. As for Blake being with Zaid, no one said they were physically together. Joe is jumping to conclusions. Now Erick knows the truth about Blake’s and Joe’s relationship. Not sure that’s so great. I knees Fran was going downhill. You could see hints of it in every chapter. I was glad Blake was there to catch him. Joe has a wonderful and honest relationship with Fran. I think they have been good for one another. I wonder what will happen to the castle and the inheritance. The tender moments with Blake I hope will light a fire for both of them. Let’s face it, it their story. And excluding the HOT sex (partly) these two fell deeply in love. I see this totally as a love story. I hope with both Joe’s and Blake’s errors, they will become stronger together.

Thank you for this chapter, it was so nice indeed to see Joe vulnerable and opening up with his daughter. Olivia is the catalyst that I didn't imagine would be for Joe and Blake to get closer once again...and although that they met again because of Fran being sick, i loved that when they met each other, all the months apart just disappeared... "Maybe you two are the real love story after all", man i literally got chills! 🫠
