Oh yes, the trim is just trim certainly. But the two halves were glued together, which is what I was scraping out and replacing. There's definitely no wood frame inside.

Nice informative video! I wonder if the side trim isn't simply for looks and convenience to cover the lip where the 2 halves join, and act as a rubber baby buggy bumper. I doubt it holds the boat together - I suspect that is done via a very strong internal wooden frame structure. As to sealing that lip, the inside surfaces would have only been clean on the days of manufacture and therefore the caulk put in there would have only sealed well then. However nice it is to squeeze resin in there I suspect you will have to silicon seal the outer surface of that lip just before you put the rubber bumper back on else you will continue to have that leak, so, yes, I am suggesting that the leak is simply the result of the old failed caulk between those side lips. The bumper doesn't actually seal anything. Also my thoughts on the bottom rear transom lip - isn't that the only thing that actually holds the transom on? Glue/resin or a wrap or 3 of fiberglass , won't do it. Normally the side chines and keel do that job - at least in the little boats I built. Remember that these are opinions of an UN-knowledgeable and probably quite foolish novice!!!!!!!!! Great work!!! Onward!!!!!!!!! Yay Twiggy!!!
