about pillowing, in the book they explain this. Pillowing is seen as essential to good health, the doctors will even "prescribe" this. Its not viewed as an act of "love", because they don't even have the word "love" during this time period. So the idea of western love and pillowing being a core sacred aspect of that love, is not same for the Japanese (as portrayed in the book I don't know what 1600's japan was really like historically). Which is why the conversations are so open
