The most healing piece of media I've discovered this year was Aria: The Animation. Slow paced, people talking about how valuable their relationships and the little things in life are. Definitely one I would go to for the calming vibes.

Woolie, can we please play some DND Duel? I dropped it after the lobbies died a few months after launch. Had a Terranite Trouble Shooter before I walked away

John doing the whole "just because he lost the queen, doesn't mean I'll give up the king" with fuckin SMASH

That story John told at the end is so Ireland, my partner was back in Dublin for one day and ran into three exes π

I super loved this episode. Would love these more often! <3

Oh wow I actually had the exact same situation in college as John. I was good friends with a couple, where I played smash with the boyfriend. The breakup came, but I never talked to the guy again. Knew the writing was on the wall with that one. You gotta pick a side.

Twin Peaks has some really good stuff going on, but also some REALLY low lows. I don't generally recommend it to people. I think later media like Gravity Falls and Alan Wake 2 pull off what it's trying to do better, and more consistently.

Came here to say this

The way John feels about Automata is how I feel about Remedy games. Iβve beaten them all, theyβre all made of exact ingredients that should be golden for me, yet I never feel a real connection to any of them. Canβt figure out why.

Great freeze-frame on John for the thumbnail here

This is like the 7th time or so that John proves that he lives in a sitcom. You can't write that cringe story about him and his two friends any better.

Okay, but I NEED you guys to talk about Twin Peaks. Whether or not Woolie ends up liking it, I think the discussion would still be a lot of fun. For now I will just have to content myself knowing it's in John's deck.

Ultimate failure to read the room; "Do you guys not have phones?"

I was really glad to hear John talk about Nier Automata, because I had a very similar experience. Objectively it's a beautiful game, it just did very little for me on any level, and I still can't really articulate why.

Hearing John's conundrum with Nier automata makes me curious if it's a kind of disconnect. John usually does his own significant digging to find the meanings and what that knowledge/information means to him, but with Nier it's all kinda just out there and people that don't usually think about it are intrigued because It's new to them. Not for John though. I'm feeling pretty deep right now while eating breakfast and watching my 3rd and 4th favorite para-social influencers.
