quick discworld vid
🕑 Added 2021-08-05 17:39:09 +0000 UTCexperimenting in making shorter, less taxing videos! woohoo. this one's about the recent twitter talk about terry pratchett's discworld novels
there's no outro, there's a lil audio missing, & checking it thru it needs a few small changes. video description ofc. and a title. ha. all will be fixed for the live version
opinions and comments very welcome
thanks folks!

I liked the content of this one. You had a great argument and showed it pretty well in respect to Discworld. If you like the lighter weight videos, I think it's a great format.
TheSoulJames
This one secured my patronage, thank you.

I'm very glad you hammer home that trans people ARE NOT NEW. It's like the bathroom issue. Where do you think trans people have been taking a shit since the dawn of humankind, Barb? None of this is new.
Adeoxymus
Ah lol that makes sense thanks ☺️
Wesley Loving
Great video, change nothing

6’2 and 200 something pounds is a big person. a literal big fan

nice vid, loved the outro

This is a fun one but has a couple of problems with scope (transphobes never think they have opened a losing front and treat them actually losing the front as somehow unsporting) Ditum (not sure on pronunciation but have heard D-eye-tum and D-eet-um) herself recently linked this piece https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/feminism/2021/08/core-message-terry-pratchett-s-books-was-people-should-think-themselves in which a biographer of Pratchett hits many if the same points as you before landing on "We cannot know Pratchett’s views on the gender wars" which feels tauntingly close to self reflection until you learn it had apparently been the result of an edit https://twitter.com/20thcenturymarc/status /1422538377585377295 But gender critical twitter is like playing That One Scene from "Downfall" on a loop, hardly a surprise they are ordering about phantom arguments in the "trans debate".
SirVival
I second this opinion :)

From the Novel "The amazing Maurice and his educated Rodents": 'I want to see lots of cheeky stuff. Stealing the food out of cats' bowls, pies from under the cooks' noses-' '- false teeth from out of old men's mouths-' said a small rat, who seemed to be dancing on the spot while he stood there.
John MacDonald
I can see that you were just reading it as it looks, but 'PG Wodehouse' is typically pronounced wood-house. Not that it matters either way, it's clear what you meant.
M
I'm anticipating the pivot when some GC person realises Terry Pratchett identified as a humanist, smashes that together with the words 'trans rights', and comes out with 'Terry Pratchett was actually a transhumanist, so it's a good thing he doesn't agree with us actually!!'
Adeoxymus
oh I really liked this video, now I want to go and read monstrous regiment! I don't get the big fan joke though lol :-p
Nicolai Nielsen
This and the previous were very good. I thought what I enjoyed were the length of your videos, but I now realize it was the thoroughness and accuracy. You hit that right on the nail with this super shorty. Great stuff, Shaun!
Martha
Liking the extra Shaun fix this week.
Martha
I think it is really important for you to know that PG Wodehouse was pronounced "Woodhouse." I know there will be complaints if that is wrong in the public video, even though most of your audience may not be familiar with this.
Paul Sheckarski
Okay but why does the rat have dentures?
Anastasia
This is excellent and also makes me want to go re-read Monstrous Regiment. <3 (Also I’m so glad that I’ve deleted Twitter on my phone and didn’t know this “””debate””” was a thing, because if I’d encountered it in the wild my head might have actually exploded.)

Experimenting with the format you used to do all the time before you moved into making full length dissertations : P
Magdalena Milewska
So good, I was thankfully unaware of the conversation but you said what needed to be said, and also please feel free to make a series of in-depth queer readings of Pratchett, I would listen all day every day

Monstrous Regiment was the first Pratchett book I read and is still my all-time favorite book. I fell in love with it before I knew I was trans and fell even more in love with it when I came to terms with who I am.

Same here <3

Again, don’t you dare change that thumbnail.

I've could have listen to Shaun talk about Terry Pratchett for hours
Michael Muto
Loved it!
Jacob
Experiment succesful dude. Fun vid, I'd definitely watch more like this, whether that's more on books you like or dunking on bigotted twitter posters
May Miao
Me: Shaun made a short video? This won't take long to watch. Shaun: go read a whole book or I'm gonna spoil it
Clayton
You know, I would listen to people just talk about Terry Pratchett books the way some youtubers talk about games
Andrew L Butula
This may be the first time you've recommended something to your viewers that they'll enjoy, as opposed to three hour Stephan Molyneux slogs that are still fucking up my recommendations. Great video, and it's always nice to hear about Discworld, even if the impetus was stupid transphobia.
Suzanne Schenewerk
This is rad! You might note that it’s also weird to tell Gaiman that trans issues weren’t a thing back in the day, when he himself wrote a trans woman character in A Game of You in 1993.
Henry R. Seymour
I really liked this one!
Cemre
thank you for the high so incredibly thrilling that the remainder of my life appears drab and boring by comparison, shaun also good video
Percy
Might be a good time to check what cinema sins have been up to, in the meantime
