I love that Buffy / Spike. In my top 5 of the whole series. It’s just beautiful and I totally agree that you have all the others having sex but the ones who are most intimate that night are Buffy & Spike. Honestly, when the bomb was revealed on original airing I was pleased. They could’ve all died for me. I’ve never got over them turning on Buffy, especially the Scoobies and her sister! Just horrid. Really changed how I viewed them all to be honest.

One might intuit that the goal of a sports team is to win. Actually the goal of a sports team is the same as the goal of the owner of said sports team. Often that goal is to make more money. Which usually means to bring in more fans, to raise the popularity of the team, to get people to buy more team merch. Of course winning usually helps in that department. But it is also dependent on how well the team is marketed. A well marketed losing team can make more money than a poorly marketed winning team. But generally speaking winning is the goal. Winning is what I want to see my teams do. Amateur sports teams can have a multitude of different goals depending on the circumstances. Teaching/learning sportsmanship, physical development, learning to work together as a team, etc. winning is often just a by-product of other goals.

Yes, that is probably true for most folks. But there are a substantial number of us who feel differently. Our pleasure comes not from the uncertainty of the outcome. The Harlem Globe Trotters always won. But they were still entertaining. It was watching the beauty or comedy of their flawless play that entertained. A different brand of pleasure. If you appreciate art or a beautiful sunset, then you should be able to understand pleasure without doubt or conflict.

The quality of protagonist and the plot is dependent on the characters around him/her. And for me personally how deliciously good the antagonist is. Also a one sided fight whether fictional or sports related is boring to watch.

That is perfectly valid. We each choose our own issues, whether conscious or unconscious. I choose that my heroes be unrealistically infallible. I like my sports heroes to always win. But they are not fiction, so I am screwed.

It is fiction; my issue is unconditional praise to a character who everyone knows will always have a positive outcome because of being the titular character.

I love the contrast with everyone having sex and spuffy just cuddling, stroking each others' hair and looking at each other. its such a difference from last season where it was the opposite; the sex was emotional and loving for xanya when they were engaged, and tender with willow (albeit with tara not kennedy), then spuffy was just sex to feel something exciting. For faith I guess, its very different, too. Previously sex has been a power play, and a tool. here it seems that there was a genuine connection and support from wood

On paper, it was a good idea to explore the story where Buffy gets tested after her decision leads to heavy losses only for Faith to do the same, showing that "anyone can fall into a trap". But the way they executed it was so far off that mark. They made Buffy's mistake very preventable. The intel came from Caleb challenging Buffy to come and many people warned her that it might be a trap. Whereas with Faith, they went out and caught a bringer in the wild, used a spell in a brand new way to get it to talk, and no one was opposed to Faith's plan once they found out about the weapons arsenal. On top of that, Buffy only succeeded the second time because she went in alone and was able to avoid engaging Caleb directly. Her original plan for everyone to go back would have been a tactical mistake again. I wish they had handled things differently, because their intent to show that "crap happens to the best leaders sometimes" didn't match what they presented.

In any of those instances, is there evidence that a better outcome "in the long run" was certain. Of course not, my choice would be to follow Buffy's instincts, "emotional" or not. There is no argument that can be made that the result in the long run would have been better had she made a different decision. You are free to believe that the good outcomes were a matter of chance, or that better outcomes would have followed different decisions. But in the end this is fiction. Anyone is free to have their own opinion.

Buffy's instincts are usually driven by her emotions. She's fortunate that the show is called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". She had many several instances of being killed only to be saved by her friends, fellow slayers, or good fortune.

Any "mistakes" in judgement that Buffy had, are by no means certain. We may not have always liked the results(Xander losing an eye), But are we certain that different decisions would not have resulted in worse outcomes in the long run? Buffy has the experience and the instincts of THE Slayer. Faith on the other hand has the instincts of a slayer(lower case), with much less experience and corrupted by evil in her past.
