This is quite possibly the first movie I ever saw. I know it was before I was 4. Influenced my lifelong love of both dogs and cats (although I've never owned the latter due to living on a throughroute). That feeling when Shadow gets stuck in the hole is like a Spectre attack from His Dark Materials, especially when you're that young and own two similar sized dogs. I second the hearty recommendation of the sequel.

Oh man my heart, favourite movie as a kid. My black lab was named shadow after this movie and she was just put to sleep a few weeks ago at the age of 15 π

Ohh I love this one. Don't ever just watch "the incredible journey" though. it's terrible. The sequel to this is great though (I think. Less emotional though) My dog looks a little like chance and when he was 2ish he found a long spined cactus with his nose at the beach. I couldn't help but picture the porupine scene
