Very good video that I enjoyed! I used to watch matpat a lot in high school so it was a very fun surprise to see this. I think you might've touched on it in the video but it's so fascinating to me how the man sees profit as an automatic moral good but basic survival is not. It sounds like a very tragic way to think about your own humanity, much less the rest of the world. Also every time you said "but that's just a theory" i lost it. I am like a baby who is shocked every time I play peekaboo. Head absolutely empty.

Fair, but what I meant is that getting it right isn’t really important like at all for film/game/food theory (at least the way I see it). It’s all just meant as entertainment. I mean he freely admits in his behind the scenes stuff that they come up with a take and then look through the media for evidence instead of legitimately taking something from it. He’s not trying to tell us what the media meant (even when that’s explicitly the thesis of the video) - he’s just trying to entertain and gets some cool science facts in there sometimes. Media criticism is like the play he’s putting on or whatever. It means he’s wrong way more than you, sure, but this is how he’s able to make like a billion videos super quickly.

I enjoyed this video for sure but I think you’re gatekeeping media criticism a bit. So what matpat is using the media as a prop to support a controversial take that’ll get views? I don’t think anyone goes to a film theory video to get the type of criticism that you do, and it’s kind of unfair to compare his content to yours. Like your goals are clearly completely different.
