Killerkarnickel

Rejoined again after a few years. For your new essays, but also for the old Addams Family videos. And here they are in the first post. Thank you so much! Even though you probably can just see the flaws in these, my humble brain enjoys them so very much!

Lindsay Ellis

The video you watched in 2020 was actually a remade and immensely expanded version of the the original video Lindsay made in 2014. Watch them both to compare! --Elisa

Darian

Oh these take me back

Sooz Kempner

The Day After Tomorrow episode was not from 2014, you've made a mistake. It was from 2020. I watched it 1 week before lockdown when it was first out. IT WAS NOT NINE YEARS AGO TELL ME I'M 22 TELL ME I'M 22!!!

Whimsy Bobbins + Vintage Nettles

You cannot possibly know that I have waited actual years to show the Christmas Shoes episode to my Husband. A bucket list item ticked off with satisfaction. 🤣

Aoife Hodgins

Would you think of putting up your Pirates of the Caribbean one on this list as well? Was one of my favourites

Alex B

Can I just say, "PACKAGE!" is like a call word to me. Thank you for these, I will cherish them always.

Nick Ulanowski

I only started watching you when you had your own YouTube channel, after Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2 came out. So most of this is stuff I haven’t seen before. Awesome!

Gabo

eeeeee im so happy i have access to this treasure trove! i miss Lindsay's videos

WJ ZAV

There are some hidden gems. Tracing the rapper career of Will Smith for example

sunlit_music

Meant to also say: The last time I watched the unauthorized uploads of your old videos was at leas 4-5 years ago, but again, that's no excuse for my watching them.

sunlit_music

I won't watch the videos as you said you'd prefer us not to. But I seriously do appreciate you putting up these videos in case others want to watch them. I'm really sorry for watching the unauthorised uploads in the past.

Mar MB

This is an interesting time capsule, it shows how far you've come since the beginning of your YT days. A bit of wishful thinking: it would be interesting for you to revisit Showgirls with your current style of video essay.

Rareș-Andrei Dinu

It's so weird and wholesome to watch the Labyrinth video so many years later. First time i saw it in 8th grade and it was my introduction into who Bowie is. And now I'm rewatching it at 24, after having become a huge and borderline obsessed Bowie fan. Just another instance in which your videos played a surprising role in shaping my life <3

Sabrina Mendez

LOOOVVEEE your pre youtube content. I know you feel indifferent about it but your writing, clever comments, and overall approach is something I loved about it!

Brandon Scott Jensen

The only real #problematic stuff I noticed was repeated use of the R-word. But I am definitely projecting as during this time I was FAR worse with that word.

Josie Cakes

I saw the Teen Witch one, and was like—ok, gotta see this. That movie is basically perfect. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mikki

I loved these videos then and, honestly, I still love them now! These videos were my first intro to film theory and analysis. Thank you for sharing these with us! I've been wanting to rewatch these for the longest time but decided to hold off because of your feelings and experiences associated with these videos. However, would you ever go back and revisit the topics/issues presented in these reviews from another perspective?

Mokarokas

If you think we shouldn't watch and enjoy old stuff because every facet of it might not have aged well or the quality is lacking in certain places... then why did you start reviewing old stuff to begin with? ;) Thanks a bunch for making these available again, I've missed them! <3

Aischa

Despite the request to not watch these, I just watched hours of nostalgia chick. I can see why you think they are bad and people shouldn't watch them, some of them are flawed or have not aged well. Still, I appreciate them. They make me think about stuff, they make me reevaluate media. That's a good thing. Obviously I still have my own thoughts and feelings on these movies, and on some things I think you were wrong. However, that doesn't mean that these clips should never have existed. There are so many important topics to discuss in the world, it would be sad if the fear of being wrong kept us from discussing them at all. Better to have started the conversation and be a little bit wrong about it than to never have it at all. Even if you didn't like that I watched this content, I enjoyed it and it made me think. So, truly, thank you!

lemon calippo

Thank you

Guammy

Despite the feelings about these videos, they are how I first discovered you and have been a fan ever since. I appreciate you posting them again

redshasta

I am so happy to see these again! 10 out of 10 Shibas.

Omega1313

Still love the Dark Nella Saga especially! It is a comfort watch :P

Ben Goodison

Finally picked up a copy of Axiom's End, and can't wait to get into it. :) Truth of the Divine on order as well!

Ralf Zexkiewicz

To Lindsay's Producer: A lot of this holds up? I don't know how best to use it, I'm sure you'd like to edit out some of the uh... less refined moments, and into a "best of" or other compilation for the other channel? I dunno. Something something new content without making new content.

Milanko Doroski

I finished axiom's end yesterday and man, that was a ride. Just bought Truth of the Divine. ♥️

bewitchedfencer

You've made my entire year!!! I just saw this!! I never thought I'd get 'new' Lindsay Ellis commentary and now I have so much to catch up on!!!! <3

Diana.H.

Just finished re-watching the GoT and Hobbit videos. They are really great. I'm also half way done with Truth of the Divine. It's taking me more time that Axiom's End because it's a lot heavier in tone and rings a bit too intense sometimes, but I'm really enjoying the story and the writing.

GadgetNr1

I remember the Pocahontas one from thatguywiththeglasses website as Nostalgia Chick. I kinda thought the 2nd movie was a little better than first one. I dunno, it just felt more alive to me. But it is kinda funny how Disney thought Pocahontas was gonna be a box office hit... and rather Lion King outsold it instead

Max Wang

Nice username bro

Fonzie Blair

still miss you. hope you're okay. sending love. reading axioms end.

Paul Peniscocker

I thought I had seen all your old stuff. YEA! I've got stuff to watch on the train. (I had planned to start your book, and I forgot my kindle at home. Lol hope you are well and wishing you the best.

run_away

Wow. Nostalgic and kind of melancholy to see linkara, spoony, obscurus lupa, and co. again. I know this is a very middle-aged thing to say, but... 'they all look so young.' I wish the world was a kinder place. These are all talented people who were young, energetic, and excited about their careers- flying by the seat of their pants in pioneering a new form of media. The internet didn't have to be as brutal as it was to many of them. I still watch a lot of their content, but I also know that basically all of them have been through the wringer for no reason other than the entertainment of social media users. I'm not innocent of at least passive engagement with that circus either, though. Wish I could go back in time and tell myself to just close the tab on a lot of stuff that was 100% none of my business.

Joe Castle

Damn 😱 you were busy as fuck! I’m watching all of these!

trainboy

Thank you! Any hope that we could get the Dune episode? Been wanting to see that for years.

Tony Wichowski

This is amazing. Just know we still love you. You are the GOAT.

Natalie Arnold

The real question now is: Does Jenny Nicholson know Nella has the ponysaurus?

Kristjan Buckingham

Nella's Pony Epic alone completely justifies the re-upload of this content. Seriously though, very cool to be able to see Lindsay's voice as a creator develop throughout her career 💚

DAvid MmKay

I know you're not proud of your early stuff, but I figure you were doing the majority of the concurrently to schoolwork. Plus it is interesting to go back and watch you grow into your performer.

Matthew Dunne

I value access to these because the memory of seeing your art evolve is something I hold dear and would like to be able to review, and I'm glad it means unauthorised reuploads won't be able to proliferate. Thank you. (Also, sometimes I need something familiar for a bit of comfortable occupation)

Kala

Thank you for sharing these, Lindsay. I sincerely wish you the best.

Rebecca Rothschild

How have I been a fan as long as I have and only just now learned what an incredible voice you have?!

Vinicius Gutheil

There is some amazing gems there. It's really fun to see #content that I've never saw before

Ben Taylor

Thank you for sharing these, Lindsey! I remember enjoying these videos years ago, particularly your Addams Family critique.

Rebecca Richards

I'm so glad to see these again, some of them are classic videos that I remembered really loving and felt like a jumping off point to your later video essays. Cruel Intentions was such a classic because you dove into the source material too to really show the issues the adaptation was having and how it wasn't successfully addressing them. Really glad to see that Supergirl review especially. I loved that crossover with Lewis. EDIT: OH MY GOD THE CHRISTMAS SHOES YEEEEEES

Jo and Gareth

I used to use this when teaching media representations of the LGBQTIA+ community. Great to have it back

Max Wang

Disney needs more gay was actually pretty good

Lauren 'Inka' Seward-Munday

As cringe as we were back in the day, I have always enjoyed your content so it is nice too look back and see how much you hvae grown over the years as a creator.

Jo and Gareth

Yep, that gets me to pledge . Looking forward to the next book!

Since you say their problematic, would you cover any of these films/shows in a future episode through a new 2022 lens?

Hannah Pate

Ahhh such a nostolgia trip! These videos kept me company through many a sleepless college night.

Scooter Jennings

I'm excited about this! Last weekend I watched movie Hunchback of Notre Dame and then the Lindsay Ellis video. It was a good afternoon.

Sanbai

Thank you Lindsey! <3

Jae Lim

I'm glad these are here, I loved watching these and was wondering where they went.

Seth Fisher

Bastards. I started from the bottom and panicked that they're all going to be auto-claimed.

Jebest4781

Great to see the library here. Good luck out there Lindsay.

Brian

Awesome, I haven't really followed up on a lot of your CA material, thanks for the easy compilation.

Paige

boo True Lies was copywrite sniped

Sarah Jesness

I've been watching you since your Nostalgia Chick days but I haven't seen some of these. Might check them out.

Akil Guru

The 11 Favorite Movies video introduced me to Sita Sings The Blues, which I loved. And then, years later, I found out Paley's a hardcore TERF, which made me more alert to transphobia in media and to follow the wonderful people who fight it. So indirectly, thanks for that as well.

jaded cynic

I know how you feel about them, but to me these are still worth a watch. Thank you and I hope you're doing okay.

Avraham Bronstein

I hope you're OK. I probably won't listen to your advice; I'm almost certainly going to re-watch a lot of these.

Erik Anderson

opened this... saw the list and then ordered $100 of chinese takeout and a giant pot of thai tea for this binge watch

Leigh Ann Wilson

Well there goes my evenings and weekends and maybe even my work day

Magistrissa

I missed those cartoon shorts. I thought they were interesting little looks on the early history of animation. I hope you are well and staying as private as you feel comfortable with; you don't owe anybody your time and creative output.

frank sands

You know, Movie Bob has also been uploading some of his older episodes with little comments or such. I would love for you to revisit some of these movies and discuss the themes with what you know now. Like, I would love a comparison of 80s She-Ra with the new version

frank sands

I just watched the She-Ra episode and it's still fantastic. Thank you for uploading this

Jerry Shreffler

So many memories I remember my friends I would watch all of your videos together fun times also still no dune lol jk ;p

Michael M

This made my day, thank You and take care!

C

This is really wonderful. I watched a lot of these when they first came out, and sometimes when I'm talking with friends about some of these movies/artists/etc, I still want to link them to some of your old stuff.

Maggie Melchior

Yay I'm so happy! Thank you for these little gems, a nice little throwback to the ancient days of the 2010s. Also, I hope you are resting and recovering and living your best life. I so admire your work and am very thankful for all you've done Lindsay+team! Angelina is doing awesome on MusicalSplaining, and may a thousand blessing fall on Elisa if she's still your comment moderator.

Kait Hatch

I, for one, am EXTREMELY EXCITED to rewatch the Labyrinth video with it's excellent use of banana props and zoom functions.

Casey Connor

I hope you're able to have some real rest. You are one of my favorite creative people, and I hope life brings you better things.

Ariana Lahore

You may not think this content aged well but they bring back fond memories for me and a lot of what you say in them is still worthwhile. I'm glad you did this, and continue with your much-deserved R&R

Author Samantha Renee

bless

thewightknight

Ah, yes. Dante's Peak and Volcano. My favorite WTF disaster double feature. (Best cheese--when they bring the dog in at the end of Volcano, because every feel good moment needs dog.)

Lauren Bailey

Also, I was just rewatching all your videos so this gives me so much new shit to watch ahhh

Lauren Bailey

OMFG SHE RA, bless u Lindsay, I love you :P

Lovely

Yay! I'm just happy to see the "Disney Needs More Gay" vid ^^. ..... Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurl~

swheatheart

I "shouldn't" watch them, but I will this weekend

Toniidoh

This is a real treat, thank you so much! Hope 2022 has been better for you, I’ve been hooked on your books!

Merce Badia

I became a patron SPECIFICALLY to rewatch her Showgirls videos because I think they're iconic

Shannon

Thank you Lindsay, these videos bring back so many wonderful memories.

Brett

Oh, that makes me nostalgic. I think the first video of yours that I ever watched (and that got me into watching you) was the "Last Unicorn" review. I think some of them are good, albeit limited compared to the video essays post-2015. The "Milo & Otis", "Men in Black", and "Lorax" videos almost feel like proto-video essays, using the movies to make interesting points about animal treatment in Hollywood, the way a sequel can go wrong, and the way an adaptation can squander its main themes. The "Disney Sequel" movies are hilarious.

Avi Blackmore

I remember these with great fondness. Dark Nella especially!

Tommy Esson

Thank you!

Jose Gutierrez

I seen the two and I think they are great! The Daria one and favorite movies video.

Brian Berry

You sell yourself short, Lindsey. Even in these older videos, there's plenty of the snark, the meta breakdown of tropes and fantastic commentary your videos always have had. Thanks for making these available again, despite the channel they came from being a problematic memory now. But, most importantly, good luck in whatever comes next for you.

CJ McCort

Best day ever!

Crescent Minor

I'm curious which videos will emerge as the favourites among the Patreon members.

Beth Wilson

Probably won’t end up watching most of these but considering this my tiny donation to support victims of cancel culture. It’s so nasty and pointless.

Heather

I know your feelings about these are…mixed at best. That said, there is some genuinely good stuff mixed through here, and I really hope these stay up.

KIDBOOYA420

Lindsey come back! You can blame it all on me.

Snow Diana Judith

ECTA(extra!comment to add♡) I love this because it's a mess like me ♡ and I learn best from messes. A thing I violently internalized the opposite way BECAUSE of my autism because the world says one way but believes and telegraphs only the other. So I GO with what "feels" real... always have, cuz I literally can't stop it.. it's how my brain always goes and it hurts a lot when that isn't understood. Which is why I always loved VIDEO formats ♡ from Disney to storytimes to TED Talks for a tbh p brief while, to ♡animatics♡ and my FAVORITE, video essays! Because I'm an INFO SPONGE by literal design! But supercharged!! Too sensitive too live, FAR too dumb to die ♡ and too in love with life and all the beautiful things I can't stop Seeing in it, whether or not they think Seeing socially or 'parasocially' is bad, dangit. Not all of us can bear to be outside in a world that keeps hurting us with honey-sweet words. So we become Brunos. And everyone likes to idealize they WOULD see and love a Bruno but... that's just it. The world DOESN'T like to embrace its brunos. It never did... it's why people like me BECOME the shut ins we do, or as uhhh what do they call it across the pond, hikikomoris? Yeah. World just too full of mean-mean hella telegraphically YOUR FAULT 4 NOT BEEING PERRRFEEECT crap. It's why I started LETTING myself talk in ways that MAKE more sense even if they fking SOUND goddamn childish. Cuz no one likes an adult voice for MESSY, COMPLICATED explanations. But kids are the only lucky ones that can MANAGE to have you LISTEN to why they punched Jeremy in the NOSE. Because HE hit first AND shoved til he knocked you down. So your brain, kid OR adult, RESPONDED to the goddamn PARADIGM SHIFT. Ugh. I literally learned my stupid words so good to try and tell people my meaning that when I STOPPED talking like a sweet little girl they ALSO stopped listening to ANY qualifiers like HAVING or being MADE into a disabled person BY ur brain INTERNALIZING mean shit people keep DOING and serving u like actual shit on a shingle and say oh no that's actually toast. THEN WHY YOU CALL IT THE THING IM SO CONFUSE. Blehhhh. Rambles. Hope they help. Love my spiritual sis BYE BE KIND, HEALING HURTS (inflammation n biochem info dump GOES HERE, bet u know em cuz ur brain good at info-puzzles like mine hence spir-sis. ...ilikethatoneha.)

Ethan Good

I had no idea you did a video on Dragonheart! That was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I could probably still recite it. And the ending gets me to this day.

Anya Lienau

OH MY GOSH, I'd reconciled myself to never being able to watch the Worst Witch review again (the first video of yours I ever saw) and was very sad about that. This is like a dozen Christmases coming early. I'm so excited.

Haley Hrncir

The Lorax review is one of my favorite videos you've ever done, so thank you for bringing the oldies back!

Alison

You don't understand how happy and emotional and ..nostalgic.. just seeing this list makes me. I've followed since 2009, the year I graduated high school. Life sure happened. Thank you for this.

Crescent Minor

Aahh! That's ringing a bell, but I guess I evicted the rest of that memory. Which video is that?

Chuck Gaines

holy cow that’s a lot of stuff, lol

Laura Hansen

Holy shit! THANK YOU

Crescent Minor

Woot woot! The kinda old, mid-2000s problematic stuff I loved as a ten year old is pretty important viewing. Emotionally, personal-growth wise, it's necessary to look at your childhood relics and see how the world is different now. Hell, when I was ten, syndicated TV shows from Disney could throw around racial caricature of Asian people and no one would even blink. It was wrong, I had some vague feeling it was wrong, but without anyone clarifying it for ten-year-old me, I did the easy thing and ignored or excused it. I think failing to come to terms with that really hurts people's personal understanding of themselves. And oh MY GOD, it's Dark Nella! That was the best shit ever to me when I was twelve! I wrote fanfiction about Dark Nella taking over the whole show like some Chez Diamanda Hagan. I had no idea how much I missed it!

kduds

I never thought I'd say this but I think the tide is slowly turning to us collectively realizing that "#problematic" is... Well, uhh, problematic. The world changes so quickly now, it's unavoidable that something written 10 (or even 5) years ago will have problems in today's context, especially when viewed by an entirely different audience than originally intended! I don't know 100% what it is we have to learn but I know you're helping us get there. Thanks Lindsay!

Kristen Trawczynski

"The lunar bear DESCENDS FROM THE HEAVENS" and a lot of other gems still live rent-free in my head. They aren't perfect by any means but these videos have always meant a lot to me, so thank you for giving us access!

The Furies

Thank you so much for making these available! I totally get the feeling of hating your past work when you've improved so much over time, but some of these have a special place in my heart and I'm pleased to still have access to them. <3

Madison Jupiter

I subscribed just for this. Your review of the Lorax was what introduced me to you in the first place, I remember thinking it was so funny and the criticism was really accurate. Always wishing you the best in whatever you do moving forward. :)

Dan Skahen

This is such a gift. Don't let the haters get ya down even if they make it their full-time profession. You blazed your own trail on Channel Awesome. You blazed your own trail on YouTube. You blazed your own trail in publishing. You'll blaze your own trail from here. There's a reason you still have 11K patrons on here some four months after your final YouTube. We know what you've got. Doesn't matter how you bring it or where you bring it. We're here for it. Onward and upward homie.

Oskuro

We all have #problematic stuff in our past. What matters is that we learn to recognize why it is problematic and grow beyond it, and, in my opinion, you did. I really appreciate you sharing these instead of burying them, but hey, I understand completely if you want to douse them in gas and flick a lit match at them sometime in the future. For the time being, I will get my fill of the running-gag running gag, the horrors of being a teenage virgin, and all the other fun stuff there is to love.

Marie

Thank you for this trove of memories <3

Patrick Colvin

I watched a bunch of these when the “vintage” channel was up and public, and I really enjoyed them. It was fun to see glimmers of the style you would eventually develop perking out here and there. And I think overall the quality is higher than you give yourself credit for! Plus I’m always here for discussion of The Craft

Corrie

has anyone else been looking everywhere for the showgirls review because it was such a formative piece of media in their young life?

aae19422

Honestly, I know you're kind of embarrassed of these and some of them are kind of bad, but some of them are very good and I'm glad to watch them again. They're quite nostalgic, ironically.

Snow Diana Judith

Autistic but LOVED your joke. I felt SEEN by your "bad" joke about MY VERY FRUSTRATING GOT DANG ACTUAL manifestation of sincere bodily PAIN, I lead with this so I hope u understand me better because who and HOW and WHAT you DO and embody ALWAYS spoke so vividly to a sad soul like me: Lindsay, I know you tried so hard and I hope this reaches you somehow. You don't have to fight to be Seen anymore. Please rest for as long as possible. I'm so sorry people broke my actual favorite and biggest inspiration to Be and Make better content EXACTLY like yours. You faced the same exact kind of CONSTANT misunderstanding autistic people do EVERY violently LONELY and sad day of our lives. I made my channel for me but also BECAUSE of what happened to you. I am so painfully alone, AND I AM OKAY WITH THAT THO but the things that killed me, literally bodily killed me and actual LA rush hour luck only saved me but I literally. Died. From being *constantly* and *maliciously* intentionally NOT given the grace and SPACE to BE understood. Your channel and crucifixion mirrors too much of my entire life from big beautiful sweeping grand creations with higher intent and love ever intended to the devastating fallout of ONE stupid systemically REPEATED series of mistakes NO ONE *let* you have the space to process and That Is Autism. I LOVED YOUR AUTISTIC JOKE BECAUSE IT SPOKE TO ME. Because I am SO HURT AND SAD *because* my dumb emotionally dysregulated panic attack MELTDOWNS are READ *AS* autistic temper tantrums. I will NEVER not love your joke with my whole soul BECAUSE of the WAY I *felt* you meant it. I don't even care if my assessment is entirely wrong because I was one of the people who IS what you make jokey haha about AND. I. LAUGHED. Daniel Sloss taught me "stop fuckin bein BAHTMAN fer PEOPLE WHO NEVER ASKED YE" and I felt that in my goddamn broken soul. I'm so sorry someone I cherish like a proper Sentinel of my own weird universe was shot out of the sky by a tower of people who Babble'd together enough to make a tower to harpoon you. This never should have happened and that's why I'm making my channel. Because people need to be understood and seen... and you're not allowed to scream and beg and HURT people in order for them to SEE you withOUT ALSO making the NECESSARY Good Faith EFFORT to See in return. My channel is dedicated to many but you were the one who was burned at the stake for it and I've wracked my brain for over a year how to help how to make and BE seen for the people I cry and relate most to parasocially BECAUSE I am trapped as a bruno inside the walls. I never want you to come back for anyone else BUT yourself Lindsay. And before that, I want you to find healing. And that's all I intend to do with my channel. And it's been healing because I finally gave up the last tenants of what I never knew for 32 years I've been doing... and that's been to give up Appearances. Looks. Manicuring myself to fit my most cherished Aesthetics because people wouldn't know or cherish them like I do til they knew me anyway. So I'm just finally learning to unmask everything and BE a mess for PEOPLE who Both need to learn to UNDERSTAND a messy concept and need to be SEEN for the horrible patchwork Monstrosity people perceive them as due to a litany of unresolved Misunderstandings they are not wealthy-in-knowledge-WELL-enough to BEGIN to unravel. And if they try, the clinging to even Outward appearances makes the twine knot string amalgam one of rubber bands. Violently snapping back into place with Tension the minute you stop being strong enough to pull it apart. It's killing us. And that's why I named this place a thing I think only I got when I made it, so I keep making notes and messages and banners to TRY and clarify, qualify, and illuminate a growing nightmare because we are all what I named my channel and it's only a matter of time til we all stop chirping and suffocate one another with invisible noxious miasma.

Anne Evers

Thank you. I just rewatched Mask Off, and my heart broke again for you. Love your work.

Some Strange Circus

Thank you for posting these, I hope everything is going okay

Scarlette Dale Woodall

I am equally addicted to all of your content. Direct inject initiated.

Lucy

omg I'm so excited. Lindsay I know you've said before that you're not proud of these, but I watched these in middle school and they were my first step to really thinking about media critically, so they hold a special place in my heart. especially the Lorax video <3

Alyssa Bauer

I know you hate them but honestly I think it's because you made them and they're old now. Many of us have fond memories and most of it holds up as entertaining at the very least, and oftentimes even insightful! Wishing you love and healing.

Chris

These take me back, thank you for posting these. It is appreciated.

David Monaghan

I watched these as a kid. You definitely helped shape my critical voice, and may have helped plant the seed that led me to study Film years later. As icky as it might have been for you to trawl through these old videos, your analysis was still miles ahead of some of your contemporaries at the time. Thank you for the years of intelligent commentary and entertaining videos - they definitely helped me.

oldmanpence

Ah, them deep cuts!! Thank you!!!

SMARCEY

That is what Im talkin about. Let em know Lindsey. You have for my time always been a very intelligent and well spoken voice in film and Im glad to see you giving the haters the middle finger. We need more strong ladies in the spotlight. Just know were with ya.

TV4Fun

Thank you! I'm sure this is probably a lot of OldShame for you but I absolutely loved these and was very sad when I couldn't find them.

Trevor Newman

Gosh help me but I love all these and am glad to see them back

Stephen

This is all from before I started watching your channel. I'm so excited about the trove of "new" content to watch!

Marilyn Scott-Waters

I am filled with delight. Thank you so much. Sending good thoughts. <3

David Arroyo

Cool! I hope your doing well Lindsay

Faith Hicks

The Smurfette one! I remember that was the first video essay of yours I watched; I was an angry young feminist in a male-dominated field & someone sent it to me via twitter. I'm pretty sure I've seen all of these, I really loved them. I want to re-watch them, but Iately I've been so sad at the thought of no more Lindsay on my computer ... Anyway, I hope you're doing better & know that there's many people who've thoroughly enjoyed your work over the years.

Eric Mulder

Thank you, thank you, thank you! For such a detailed and comprehensive list, all in one place, of some of the best videos YouTube has to offer!

Postgres_Princess

Honestly still some of the best media criticism of the late 2000s/early 2020s.

Ed Badalucca

Always nice to take a stroll down memory lane! Of course, I’m a complete noob to the world of Lindsay, having only discovered her (your?) video essays at the start of the pandemic. But I caught up on a lot of the old content via Vintage Chez Lindsay while that account was active. Nice to have it here to revisit like a creeper every now and again. Thanks!

Aurora Melpomene Crescendo

Oh good, my autism brain has been craving a few of these.

Bryan Cybershaman(X) Logie

Yay! 😎

Nonk

Hi, Lindsay. Thanks, Lindsay.

Miles Vancura

It's pretty much mandatory to hate one's own old work isn't it? Still, it brings the rest of us great joy, thank you!

Bonnie Fiddis

I remember watching these on that website that shall remain unnamed. I remember being really interested in your work even then and more so as you branched out into your own thing.

Emily H

They are not bad; they're great. I think I've learned at least half of what I know about storytelling from these videos

Sarah Zac

Oh man, I remember watching some of these when they first came out. They were a formative part of my late teendom... everyone starts somewhere, nobody starts perfect, and there's still a lot of good to be found here. I hope you're doing okay, whatever you're doing now.

Coddlesworth

aaaaand... there went my plans for the month :P

Sara-ara

❤️❤️❤️

Troy B.

Picking a random item from a random list, I'm always glad to hear someone else who fell in love with the LOTR Extended DVD's bonus features and behind the scenes footage. I might love it even more than the movie, I'm not sure. *pause* No, probably not. But I still love watching it. I can't think of any other behind the scenes features that I've rewatched, let alone multiple times.

Knoriel Castillo

I don’t understand why you always feel the need to be negative about yourself. Your past stuff was brilliant and i still support you with the new stuff today. In the age of app these “angry” “Dudebro” reviewers, it was refreshing to hear your video essays from the female perspective.

Bernard T

You have no idea how happy I am to be able to access your older stuff! I absolutely love it and have missed these videos! Sending you love and well wishes from a huge fan

Raiden NC

Honestly - I still love all your old content too... #sorrynotsorry

Christina

💜💜💜💜💜💜💜so happy right now! Hope you’re doing well.

JordanL

I love these videos! They’re what made me follow you in the first place, and I still find them super entertaining and insightful!

A

Can someone hint a bit why each is considered problematic? I've seen some of them and I can't understand why they would be problematic and I missed the original discussions.

Brandon Powell

You know I've been looking back at my own past trying to untangle the good from the bad. It's something I used to have a lot of difficulty doing but recently I've found it very easy.

John D Ruddy

This list is wonderfully and fittingly nostalgic! Hope you’re keeping well :)

Ole van Dongen

This is wonderful! Feminist Frequency referencing the Smurfette Principle is what started me watching your content way back when! So glad I can rewatch it!

WJ ZAV

Thank you.

Trejon Dunkley

Honestly, I loved the shorts reviews, and I wish they could have become a full series. I'm really excited to revisit these. Thanks <3

Julia Schroeder

Hope you are taking care!

Keith

Bless you for this. I'm actually working on a script for a video right now, and I'll watch several of these while I do.

Bethany Laurel

NGL, I’m ridiculously excited about once more being able to watch The Man In The Iron Mask video. I reference your John Malkovich at Olive Garden bit A LOT.

Katherine Elmore

Thank you! I was referencing the Kate and Leopold review constantly while watching it last year, so I'm glad there is a valid source for me to send it to them.

Natalie Watson

God it's such a throwback seeing all of this, takes me right back to early high school when I first started watching your videos. Seriously hope you're doing better 😘👍

Amélie Stardust

I wish you will see your work with another perspective in the future. I find your ''retirement'' really hard to witness.

Dreadnought

Thanks so much! I was really missing some of these.

Sato Quinn

This is the best Patreon perk. Thank you.

Eryq Ouithaqueue

"Xanadu" is a sweet and awful movie that I unironically love and I had no idea you did a thing on it and even if you roast it completely I am so happy to learn about this

Aaron Summers

Much as I appreciate the wishes of any creator with regards to their own content. I cannot help but really happy to have these available again. The Hocus Pocus review has long been part of my Halloween playlist; I watch it every year. The Disney deep dive stuff is some of my favorite video essay content ever, the Phantom content was my guide into the the entirety of Phantom media (which I really like), and for whatever reason, the pop stars video is one that I watched several times every year. As much as Lindsay’s content has gotten better over time, there are still so many gems back in this catalogue, and I appreciate being granted the permission to continue celebrating them.

Lindsay Ellis

I already submitted the appeal for this one early this morning and we're just waiting for it to get released now. There might be a couple others as well, but I'm staying on top of them. --Lindsay's assistant

brittany

Thank you. Hope you're doing good.

Aurora H.

Oh my god….. I never saw any of these (joined too late) and like…. I know you disavow them, I know they’re Bad, but I’m going to watch all of them at least twice 😭😭

Laura L

Can't wait to watch these!

Anders Theroux

🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

John Barnett

hope all is well <3 sending good vibes to you and your symphiles <3

Timmy Red

EllisFest !

Adam Dudzinski

Bad as they are, they're nostalgic. Glad to hear from you.

Daniel Swendson

Awww, you looked so adorable back then.

Booklover13

Thank you for posting, these are oddly nostalgic for me in that they really kickstarted a number of interests for me. While they aren’t perfect, it brings me back to the earlier days of discussing media critically with my now husband.

Rufus Evans

Timing! I had nothing to watch. Thanks for this.

David L Sproull

Hope you’re doing well! ❤️

Max

Honestly, these were some of the best in the genre - and they remain a testament to how you've constantly evolved as a creator.

Rhys Jones

I’m sure this will tide me over till whatever comes next… hopefully the next book :)

Darcy McCusker

Thank you! Having the back catalogue is perfect. As a person who patreonizes people while rarely taking advantage of old content, that this exists in pontentia makes me happy:)

Evren

In the ultimate irony, the full catalogue of #problematic content against the #sublime content is an excellent timeline of growth and trend. Pity it will mean nothing to the ever-angry, bloodthirsty mob.

AsterianMonarch

I'm happy to have them somewhere, I really liked some of these old videos and at least now you'll get some revenue off of them. Hope you've been doing alright. <333

HotKarlMarx

I solemnly swear that I am up to things that aren't it chief and kinda low key yikes.

Sapphire Purcell

I am glad to see them preserved. And while they may not hold a candle to your later work, there is definitely some good fun in them. You have always been very funny.

Ed

Wow, I've been around since the early days, and I totally forgot some of these. You did a Tron video?! I'm totally re-watching the Dark Nella saga. Be well.

Billy Campelo

This is so exciting! I know you hate them but they’re honestly pretty nostalgic (no pun intended) at this point

Ezra Linehan-Clodfelter

Hope you're doing better!

Stormbourne

I LOVE your top ten guilty pleasures vid, it brings me so much joy when you tilt your camera in prep for the battlefield earth talk. And even the old stuff is some of what really got me thinking about media analysis, so I'm grateful it's here. Thank you, and I hope you're doing well!

Love this. Thank you!

Merry Mello

I understand completely if you don’t want to post this one, but is there a chance you could add your video called “TLC and the ‘90s”? I remember that one strangely vividly and thought it was a touching tribute. It’s one I’ve wanted to show to my spouse, who loves TLC and also really resonated with Left-Eye :-)

Lord Writhen

They may not have aged well, but I take it all as good-faith discussions. The core of your insights are what we love, not necessarily the edgy frills here and there.

paercebal

Thanks, and I hope you are doing as well as possible! :-)

Matt Bullions

Thank you Lindsay! Keep in mind I love you and I hope you are doing at least a little better

Jezzicho

Don't listen to the vague irrelevant horde. They were funny and enlightening, and if the bad faith humorless hated them, all the better endorsement. Hope youre feeling better.

Callicles

Thanks for doing this! For every idiot telling you suck, realize that there are many more idiots like me who value your genius and creativity.

Patrick Furlong

I don’t care what you think of them, I’ve been watching them for years before you took them down, and I love them!! Happy to see this.

Tiberiu Constantin

Hope you are well and taking care Lindsay

Will Josephson

Bad is in the eye of the beholder. I've seen a lot of these and I love your wit and enthusiasm. Thank you.

Chad Langford

I can’t believe so many videos are truly problematic (to me) in a “above my threshold for ____ appetite” way… But thank you for putting in the effort the identify the videos deemed problematic!

Ellen Rosenow

Was just thinking about these!!!!

Rebecca Smoosh

Top 10 animated guys! This video spoke to me in my youth 🤣

run_away

Rad!! Been watching some old cinema snob stuff lately so this'll fit right in to the nostalgia trip.

Trevor Jones

True lies link isn't working because of copyright

Rebekah P

Oh please, we will gladly gobble this down.

Ryeman

Hope you’re doing well!

Lily

YES THANK YOU

dirtside

I promise I will not watch any of these. No, I'm not crossing my fingers, why do you ask

Josh Fennell

Bless you, St. Ellis!
