NEW VIDEO: That Time the Sherlock Fandom Invented a Character

More broadly, this is a conversation about fanon- what it is, where it comes from, and what it means for creativity in fan spaces. This one was a lot of fun to make, and I hope it's a lot of fun to watch, too. Y'all get early access and it formally goes up tomorrow morning. :) Enjoy!

You said that Lord Moran was completely ignored-- wasn't it ever an accepted fan theory that Lord Moran was actually Seb's dad or uncle or something? and if not, why??? That seems like a really easy way to gel the fanon with the existence of this character, better than simply ignoring him; the actor who played Lord Moran is exactly 20 years older than michael fassbender so the ages even line up

I loved this video so much. One of my favorites of yours. I caught your reference to MorMor in the previous video and was THRILLED to see you not only talking about it but using it as the cornerstone for a video on one of my favorite fandom topics––fanon. I've probably read your MorMor fics lol. As a note, I always thought part of the hunger and imagery for Moran stemmed from the 2011 Sherlock Holmes movie because Moran is the dirty blonde sidekick to Moriarty in that film, functioning as a more direct foil to Watson than he is in the books.
The “good at guns” line cracked me up for some reason
My husband, who has no idea about the Sherlock fandom or what it entailed, had me pause the video at about the fifteen minute mark. Quote: “I need time to process this history I know nothing about.” I think this may have broken him.
