Alt Link: Lady Eboshi is Wrong
🕑 Added 2018-08-01 01:13:44 +0000 UTC Welp, apparently now YouTube is slapping worldwide blocks on material their robots think is copyright infringement even before it's gone public. This has never happened before. While I dispute copyright claims on YouTube, watch the video here on Dropbox.

I love humanity for it's potential, but I also think we are a cancer to the planet and ourselfs that needs to be treated.
Ian Danskin
I'd rather it not make the rounds until it's properly public, if you don't mind. :)
Allan Anderson
Oh, so do you mind if we share the Dropbox link? This articulates some of the reasons Mononoke Hime has been my favorite Miyazaki movie. Love it!

The copyright thing seems so odd since this is straight up fair use commentary. :P Anyhoo, still excited to watch this later. Really curious to see what it's all about. Especially as my wife and I often discuss how there are no hard and fast villains in Princess Mononoke because they all have some very human motivations for their actions, rather than just being 'bad' people.
Thanks for this Ian. It is a beautiful video, elegant and loving. I hope it will see the light of day soon
Ian Danskin
Oh poopsock, you're right. I think at some point it was supposed to be "how BAD they are" so I designed the chart with that in mind even though that's not the way I actually wrote it. Heck.

In a nutshell, empathy with the other ≠ disloyalty. Edit: That's this whole channel...

Beautiful essay—hope you can fight off the youtube bots!
Love the video, but I think there's a mistake. Starting around 0:25, I think the line on the triangle graph should be going from bottom left to top right, instead of top left to bottom right. If good characters are supposed to be more towards the right, and characters we care about are supposed to be more towards the top, then the line as drawn would mean that we care about characters less, the more good they are.

Great video as always! Mononoke's my favorite Ghibli film and it's a delight to hear you talk about it. One small thing I noticed, if you're still making edits before releasing this publicly: there's a missing word onscreen at 8:27, "a responsibility [to] make a judgement"
Ian Danskin
So it appears.

Secondly, i vaguely remember Ghibli beeing realy hard on copyrighted material, so be carefull with that. I hope this Video will see the light of day

two Things first, this may be my favourite Video of yours, i think i got where you were going at Pretty early and its a point very well made and incredibly important.

It's rare that I feel compelled to share videos far and wide, this one makes the cut. Looking forward to its triumphant debut on Youtube

Okay, so, I see that my suggestion is simply not relevant to this case, but also damn if that is not a great video. I hope you can get it published, because it is important and worth watching.
Bailey Spencer
Nooooo... the world needs to see this though
