Big ol' Longo Part One: Introductions (Rough)
🕑 Added 2018-08-09 21:53:11 +0000 UTC Here's the rough cut of Part One of the next video, tentatively titled Bringing Back What's Stolen: Fury Road and the Avenging Feminine. It's an in-depth look at when and how women have historically been "allowed" to be violent in the movies, how many of the tropes of action movies are about soothing the ego of the presumed-male audience, and how Fury Road draws on some parts of these conventions while often flat-out rejecting them.Be aware: This is much rougher than the previews y'all usually get. The audio is a mess, many of the clips may get changed, I don't have a lot of graphics done, there's no intro, a lot of the titles are stand-ins, and there are a number of planned script revisions that will improve the flow. Just... know that it will look and sound better in the final version.

I've called this movie 'Furiosa Road (also featuring Max)' since its release. And on the atypical bodies front, Thunderdome (feat. Max) also began by monstering Master and Blaster; humanizing them only after the damage was done.

Thanks! I chose Tomorrowland deliberately because it's a movie about, like, climate change and brinkmanship, but the logic of the action movie still demands that it have a Bad Guy you can punch in the climax. The exploding globe is just the moment when Hugh Laurie dies in that movie - I may adjust the timing on that to make it less confusing.

Okay, I noticed on 2nd viewing the Freudian slip you already caught... and I think the scene from Tomorrowland is a bit odd in the moment when you're talking about action movies being centered around "punching the world back into shape", since despite the fact that there are a number of fight scenes in the film, it seemed to me that a central theme (not necessarily the main message) of the film was about not giving in to those angry or violent impulses. Is the disco-ball of destruction in that scene meant to allude to "the world" that's being punched back into shape? It seems like I recall an action film where a character slams his hand down on a glass globe and shatters it. I want to say Sean Connery, possibly the Avengers (not the one everyone thinks I'm talking about).... Anyway I thought that might be a fun irony to play with over that dialogue. :D

Well I didn't notice anything I would describe as "much rougher"... granted, I admittedly haven't gone back and looked at your earlier sneak peaks, but this looked and sounded pretty polished to me. :)
